Here’s a series of characters I designed, an imaginary force of futuristic Earth Defenders. They’re our last hope of survival!

• Sgt. Quan Ngyuen, a formidable gunner

• Pvt. Juan Agustín, a typical maverick

• Cpt. Freja Nielsen, a vigorous leader

• Cpl. Tayshia Wright, a heroic commando

• Sgt. Mikhail Vasiliev, a battered veteran

Which one is your favorite?

Defender la alegría como una trinchera

defenderla del caos y de las pesadillas

de la ajada miseria y de los miserables

de las ausencias breves y las definitivas ...

As watcher and eyes of our skies, the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) plays an important role in exercising the sovereign rights of Singapore as an independent nation.

One of Wawel's two artillery towers, Sandomierska Tower was built around 1460 to defend the castle against attack from the south. A small chamber on the third floor would have served as either a guard's lodging or a prison for nobles, whereas common criminals were held in the dungeons.

The Wawel Royal Castle is a castle residency located in central Kraków, Poland, and the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in the world. Built at the behest of King Casimir III the Great, it consists of a number of structures from different periods situated around the Italian-styled main courtyard. Wikipedia

The castle is part of a fortified architectural complex erected atop a limestone outcrop on the left bank of the Vistula River, at an altitude of 228 metres above sea level. The complex consists of numerous buildings of great historical and national importance, including the Wawel Cathedral where Polish monarchs were crowned and buried. Some of Wawel's oldest stone buildings can be traced back to 970 AD, in addition to the earliest examples of Romanesque and Gothic architecture in Poland.[5][6] The current castle was built in the 14th-century, and expanded over the next hundreds of years. In 1978 Wawel was declared the first World Heritage Site as part of the Historic Centre of Kraków.

For centuries the residence of the kings of Poland and the symbol of Polish statehood, Wawel Castle is now one of the country's premier art museums. Established in 1930, the museum encompasses ten curatorial departments responsible for collections of paintings, including an important collection of Italian Renaissance paintings, prints, sculpture, textiles, among them the Sigismund II Augustus tapestry collection, goldsmith's work, arms and armor, ceramics, Meissen porcelain, and period furniture. The museum's holdings in oriental art include the largest collection of Ottoman tents in Europe. With seven specialized conservation studios, the museum is also an important center for the conservation of works of art.

Again I have added transparency to most of the prims that make up the original defender avatar of Flea Bussy and assembled them around Alpha to create the mechanoid/humanoid hybrid which is now posing on one of the hamster wheels at Syncretia. The skin is, yet again, Vry Offcourse's "Forge" skin...

Now these are the OG Defenders that I made as a reason to use that silver surfboard for (of course) Silver Surfer. I also had a couple other fun new parts for classic Strange, who turned out nicely.

Is a bird species of the family Phylloscopidae widespread in the Old World. Greenish brown above and off-white below, it has a characteristic two-tone song whose French speakers retain the rhythm and the metallic sound resembling those of coins that are pegged, hence the nickname "ECU meter And that English speakers translate by a chiff-chaff that earned him his common English name Common Chiffchaff. The species is divided into a number of subspecies, some of which are now considered as separate species. The female builds a domed nest on or near the ground, and assumes most of the hatching and feeding of chicks, while the male has little involvement in nesting, but defends her territory against her rivals, and attack potential predators.

The Serranos Towers (Torres de Serranos) are a duo of medieval defensive towers which once formed part of the city fortifications in Valencia, Spain. Begun in 1392, the purpose of the Serranos Towers was to help defend what was then the city’s most active gates.

From 1586, the Serranos Towers took on an entirely different function, this time as an aristocratic prison holding the likes of knights and noblemen. It would continue to be used as such until 1887, spared the destruction which befell the rest of the medieval walls.

Throughout the Spanish Civil War, the works from the Prado Museum were kept safely in the Serranos Towers. Modifications were made to adapt the towers for this purpose in 1936, including reinforcing the first floor with concrete in case the towers were bombed.

Today, the Serranos Towers in their magnificent condition are open for the public to visit. Climb to the top of the towers for a breathtaking view of Valencia.

A quick trip down to Felixstowe this morning. The tide was a bit too far out for the usual ethereal images this place has to offer. I wanted something a little different anyway and opted for this simple composition. Lovely detail in the sky today and some lovely colour tones.

Hope you all have a great week ahead

My countrymen died brave deaths, aside our king. The Hoards from the East came and surrounded our stalwart walls, battering them unmercifully. At last, they scaled and breached our defences, striking down the valiant defenders. Few escaped that day; I was one. Now I go to beg the armies of the West to aid their brothers. Perhaps then my lack of courage on the walls will be forgotten, and I shall be counted as a hero.

Many thanks for your visits, faves and comments. Cheers.

Silvereye

Scientific Name: Zosterops lateralis

Description: The Silvereye is a small bird with a conspicuous ring of white feathers around the eye, and belongs to a group of birds known as white-eyes. The Silvereye shows interesting plumage variations across its range. The grey back and olive-green head and wings are found in birds through the east, while western birds have a uniformly olive-green back. Breeding birds of the east coast have yellow throats, pale buff flanks (side of the belly) and white on the undertail. Tasmanian birds have grey throats, chestnut flanks and yellow on the undertail. To complicate this, the birds in the east have regular migrations within Australia and may replace each other in their different areas for parts of the year. Birds in Western Australia have yellowish olive, rather than grey, backs.

Similar species: There is only one similar species found on Australia's mainland. The Yellow White-eye, Z. luteus, lives in Australia's north and north-west. It is more brightly coloured above, is lemon yellow below and has a smaller white eye-ring. The ranges of the two species do overlap slightly.

Distribution: Silvereyes are more common in the south-east of Australia, but their range extends from Cape York Peninsula, Queensland, through the south and south-west to about Shark Bay, Western Australia. They are also found in Tasmania.

Habitat: Silvereyes may occur in almost any wooded habitat, especially commercial orchards and urban parks and gardens.

Seasonal movements: In the south of their range, Silvereyes move north each autumn, and move back south in late winter to breed. Although one of Australia's smallest birds, the Silvereye is capable of travelling great distances during migration, with Silvereyes from the most southerly regions of Tasmania travelling all the way up to Southern Queensland.

Feeding: Silvereyes feed on insect prey and large amounts of fruit and nectar, making them occasional pests of commercial orchards. Birds are seen alone, in pairs or small flocks during the breeding season, but form large flocks in the winter months.

Breeding: Silvereye pairs actively defend a small territory. The nest is a small, neatly woven cup of grasses, hair, and other fine vegetation, bound with spider web. It is placed in a horizontal tree fork up to 5m above the ground. The nest is constructed by both sexes, who both also incubate the bluish-green eggs. If conditions are suitable two to three clutches will be raised in a season.

Calls: The contact call, a thin "psip", is given persistently.

Minimum Size: 10cm

Maximum Size: 12cm

Average size: 11cm

Average weight: 11g

Breeding season: August to February; later in the north

Clutch Size: 2 to 3, rarely 4

Osprey on the nest

Jordan Lake, North Carolina, USA

If I post accurately, this seagull and the squirrel will sit side-by-side and tell the story of what was happening when I got these shots.

I had taken the camera down to the lakeshore at Jack Darling Park along with a couple of loaves of bread just to see if I could get some seagull photos with a new lens. It's always fun to rile them up a bit with crusts of bread and start shooting the action.

There was the usual scramble as the gulls shrieked at one another and fought for first position in the breadline but this particular bird got my attention because she appeared to be getting really aggressive and it was toward me. Talk about 'biting the hand that feeds you'!

The verbal assault continued and I then realized her anger wasn't directed at me but at what was behind me: a wily squirrel who had found his way into the bag I'd brought with me to the beach---the bag with the loaves of bread and this seagull was defending the food supply.

:-)
