A female Anna's Hummingbird is on high alert to defend her Lantana flowers! She started chattering, flared her tail, and flew up to chase off an incoming Hummingbird. She was successful this time!!

I went out after the snow storm to look for White Squirrels today, but did not see any. However there were lots of Black Squirrels and Grey Squirrels out. This Grey Squirrel was down in a tree hollow and another Grey Squirrel tried to enter that hollow! This guy immediately chased the intruder out of the hollow and sent him on his way!!
I suspect there could be a female squirrel nesting in this hollow and he was defending his nest or castle

Dhi Ain is an archaeological village located in Tihama, western Saudi Arabia, about 20 km from Al-Makhwah Governorate and 24 km from Al-Baha. It was founded in the tenth century AH and is more than 400 years old.
The village was built on top of a white mountain and is famous for the cultivation of bananas, lemons, peppers, basil and caddy, and handicrafts.
The village includes many houses, consisting of two to four floors, a small mosque, and many forts used to defend the village and watch.
The village is also among the ten sites approved by the Saudi government in November 2014 to ask UNESCO to include it on the World Heritage List in the coming years.
قرية ذي عين هي قرية أثرية تقع في تهامة غرب المملكة العربية السعودية، وتبعد 20 كيلومتراً تقريباً عن محافظة المخواة و24 كيلو متراً عن الباحة، ونشأت في القرن العاشر الهجري وعمرها يزيد على 400 سنة.
بنيت القرية على قمة جبل أبيض وتشتهر بزراعة الموز والليمون والفلفل والريحان والكادي، والصناعات اليدوية.
تضم القرية العديد من البيوت والمكونة من طابقين إلى أربعة طوابق ومسجداً صغيراً والعديد من الحصون المستخدمة للدفاع عن القرية والمراقبة.
القرية هي أيضاً ضمن عشر مواقع وافقت عليها الحكومة السعودية في نوفمبر 2014 لتطلب من اليونسكو ضمها إلى قائمة التراث العالمي في السنوات القادمة
This female Rufous Hummingbird worked so hard defending the feeder and grevillea plants in the yard all morning. In the afternoon, the male took over dominance of the yard. They make me tired watching how hard they work.

Le Pic mar creuse chaque année une nouvelle cavité de nidification dans un arbre feuillu vivant ou mort d’au moins 20 cm de diamètre. Cette cavité est le plus souvent située entre 5 et 15 mètres du sol, habituellement proche des parties attaquées par un champignon. La reproduction débute dès février par la parade puis l’accouplement et la construction du nid. Ensuite la ponte survient de fin avril à début mai. les jeunes s’envolent entre fin mai à début juin. Une fois sortis du nid, ils seront encore nourris par leurs parents durant une vingtaine de jours environ. L’oiseau ne couve qu’une fois par année. Si la couvée est détruite, il peut y avoir une ponte de remplacement. Durant l’hiver, l’oiseau ne défend pas son territoire, mais il occupe une plus grande étendue aux alentours de son endroit de reproduction à cause de la raréfaction de la nourriture.

I saw so many seals while kayaking out in the Dungeness Bay yesterday. At one point, I counted 11 watching me from all around.

The Waterbuck is a gregarious antelope. Dominant bulls occupy territories which they defend by aggressive posturing and even fights. Cows, calves and young bachelors congregate in herds. The composition of such herds can vary daily as individuals freely leave or join these. They are strong swimmers and when seriously threatened, will take refuge in deep water. They are found in herds of up to 30 strong.
I couldn't figure out whether this guy was there to defend the fort, or if he was just a really scaly tourist. Either way this gguy was oblivious to all of the attention he was receiving. He was basking in the window of the gift shop at Castillo de San Crystobal in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico.
