Thinking of troubles in life .

But after he received this text message, he was smiling.

I did quite much candid shots during my trip to Shanghai. To capture the lifestyle of locals. Seeing their lives through my lens.

Southern California is bracing itself for a cold and wet storm arriving today.

The activity in the air (wind, clouds, temperature) excites and stimulates my senses. Felt as if the winds were cleaning out my mind and body. Spring cleaning for the soul. :)

Top that off with sharing it with a close and dear friend and it was a good day.

Broken. It is what we all are and tend to stay until we die. We fail to see that being human means it is crucial to be connected. To find parts of ourselves that fit with one another. Yet we stand judgmental of the man who lost his job and eats to cope. We call the woman a slut because of how she chooses to live her life. It is part of life to judge. It is human to judge. I judge. You judge. It is a habit hard to break. It is our drug of choice. It is a drug I struggle with daily because I don't want to be broken. I want to find my piece in another. I want to make not only myself whole, but others whole as well. We are all broken.

One Masked Marauder in deep thought.

What to have for lunch tomorrow? Hmmmmmm.....

No, actually, it was much deeper than that. More like, will this photo turn out well enough to satisfy me in order to submit for project 365? I hope so, because it's now midnight and me needs to go to bed.

Yes, I'm a night owl.

Went to Balloons Over Bend a few weekends ago with my beautiful girlfriend, Taylor. I managed to get a picture of her when she wasn't looking. HAHA! She's quite photogenic if you can't tell.

Woman pulling knees in and looking away. Pose, combined with dark background and tight framing suggest feelings of stress or being limited and without options.

This morning I was at a Bible study. I usually have my camera with me at all times and I just pulled it out of my bag and started shooting. Why? Well, because I figured out a couple of things today...

Photography is all about capturing the light.

As a Christian, the Bible says that Jesus is the light and we are to shine that light before all men.

So, when I looked at this statue with this verse on it and then I noticed the shadow it made which changed the color of the tablecloth and the reflections on the table decoration, it just got me to thinking how closely tied together my belief in Jesus and my love of photography is. Because in both things...it's all about the light!

I know...I'm a bit sappy today...but these are "Deep thoughts, by Jill Rains." :)

Oh! Happy Bokeh Wednesday! :)

It's amazing to think that, at one time, none of us knew how to use forks... or tie our shoes.

Who was the first person to use a fork?

In between my busy schedule this week, I found yet another abandon house in my neighbourhood and once again Chelsea came along and we got some great shots.

The house had such a different feel than the last, we just used the back yard, the inside felt incredibly eerie and we talked for ages about how uncomfortable we felt as we peeked through the opened windows. The backyard was over grown and we quickly found the best parts to work in.

It's so good to have the opportunity to work with such willing and trusting people, like Chels, who lets me experiment and fine tune my style of photography. Getting a shot like this totally makes my day and I can't wait to get it printed!! Thanks Chels and thanks to the people that let their houses get so run down that all they're good for is photo shoots!

My landlady's cat. I always thought it was just a stupider-than-the-average cat. Turns out it's a really really DEEP cat, and doesn't let on. Because to do so wouldn't be zen.
