Westport
Westport is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. It had a population of 2,213 at the 2020 census.[3] Westport is located on a peninsula on the south side of the entrance to Grays Harbor from the Pacific Ocean.
The public Westport Marina is the largest marina on the outer coast of the United States's Pacific Northwest. The marina is home to a large commercial fishing fleet and several recreational charter fishing vessels. A summer-only passenger ferry, discontinued in 2008, previously connected the town to Ocean Shores, across the mouth of the harbor to the north. It is home to the Washington Tuna Classic ,which happens each August.[4]
History
Westport was officially incorporated on June 26, 1914. Names for the area in the past include Peterson's Point, Chehalis City, and Fort Chehalis. The latter name is for a U.S. Army fort established in 1860 before the town was founded, "ts-a-lis" is the Lower Chehalis word for Westport, meaning "place of sand". Early explorers pronounced the word "Chehalis" and gave this name to the river and the people living up river who later became the Chehalis people or "People of the Sands". The area was used regularly during the summer by local Native American tribes (most likely the Shoalwater Bay Tribe, comprising Willapa Chinook and Lower Chehalis people) before Thomas Barker Speake and his family arrived early in the summer of 1857. Westport is also the home to a station for the US Coast Guard. In 2015, the Ocosta School District became the first to build a publicly funded vertical tsunami shelter, located at Ocosta Elementary School.

One of the murals seen on Hulls Hessle Road which was once the heart of the fishing community they depict a proud chapter of Hulls deep-water fishing history. It was often said if you sailed on a deep-sea trawler as a Boy..you came back as a Man,
The charter boats head out of Destin, Fla. for the day's catch. The old saying "red in the morning, sailors' take warning" turned out to be accurate. It was a rough day in the Gulf of Mexico but we kept working and ended up having a very memorable day on the water.
Dry fish is locally called ‘Shutki’. In winter, many fishermen catch fish mainly to make dry fish. But traditional drying methods are used in the absence of a modern dry fish preservation facility. Most of time they dry fish under sun; these dried fish can bring them profit by exporting them.

Finally a sunrise picture! Woke up at 5:30 am to go deep sea fishing and this is what we got to see on the way out. It was quite beautiful... I typically don't get up before 8 am, so this was early for me!
Had a great time fishing BUT I will never do that again. We went out 35 miles to international waters and the boat was tied up to an oil rig (which was really cool). I got extremely sea sick...even with dramamine in me. I should've known since I get sick in the backseat of a car! Guess I will stick with shore, lake, river and bay fishing. :)
Strolling through the harbor and enjoying the sounds of the whispering wind and seeing yachts and things.
A variety of fishing boats can be seen from the coast of Cape Manazuru (Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan), including commercial fishing boats and hired cruisers taking guests out to sea for some deep sea fishing. The local economy is based on bounties brought in from the sea.
Dubai has a number of beautiful beaches like famous Palm Beach. The year round sunshine and excellent soft sandy beaches along the coast are ideal for relaxing, lazing or sun bathing. For the more active, there are water sports to be enjoyed in the warm waters of the Persian Gulf. Winters in Dubai are pleasant but during summer temperatures can reach up to 45-50 degrees centigrade with equally high humidity. There is also a public beach at Al Mamzar Park on the Deira side of the Creek. The public facilities include playgrounds, barbecue sites, food kiosks, and picnic areas. Dubai beaches offer a plenty of recreational activities including beach volleyball, jet skiing, deep-sea fishing, paragliding, windsurfing or any other water-sport you desire to enjoy. Jumeirah Beach is the most famous and popular beach in Dubai. Actually, it is a long stretch of beach on the Persian Gulf flanked by hotels and private clubs, interspaced by a few public access marine beaches. The Jumeirah beaches have soft white sand that slip into the shallow warm turquoise waters of the Persian Gulf. At the camp you will have the opportunity to ride a camel.
After the hectic of the Souks at Bastakia Quarter in the old Dubai we wanted to have some lunch at the beach of Dubai. During summer months, the weather is uncomfortably hot and humid. So we took the taxi to public beach Jumeirah. At the camel camp we seem to forget we're in Dubai.
Dubai has a diverse and multicultural society. The city's cultural imprint as a small, ethnically homogenous pearling community was changed with the arrival of other ethnic groups and nationals — first by the Iranians in the early 1900s, and later by Indians and Pakistanis in the 1960s. Despite the diversity of the population, only minor and infrequent episodes of ethnic tensions, primarily between expatriates, have been reported in the city. The diversity of cuisine in Dubai is a reflection of the cosmopolitan nature of the society. Arab food is very popular and is available everywhere in the city, from the small shawarma diners in Deira and Al Karama to the upscale restaurants in Dubai's many hotels. Fast food, South Asian, Chinese cuisines are also very popular and are widely available. The sale and consumption of pork, though not illegal, is regulated and is sold only to non-Muslims, in designated areas. Hollywood and Bollywood movies are popular in Dubai. The city hosts the annual Dubai International Film Festival, which attracts celebrities from Arab and International cinema. Dubai has an active music scene, with musicians from all of the world having performed in the city. Culture is frequently subject to censorship in Dubai. Homosexuality, drugs, and the theory of evolution are generally considered taboo. The emirate's main revenues are from tourism, trade, real estate and financial services. Revenues from petroleum and natural gas contribute less than 6% of Dubai's billion economy.

After the hectic of the Souks at Bastakia Quarter in the old Dubai we wanted to have some lunch at the beach of Dubai. During summer months, the weather is uncomfortably hot and humid so the best way to survive is a dip in the sea. For us Dutchies is very odd to see a car on the beach. In Holland it's not allowed but it seems in the desert city Dubai no problemo ;-)

As the boats arrive, the large freezer lorries are already waiting to take the fish to Bangkok and further north. The wadang trawler lies low in the water: weighed down by the catch.
The fish that changed history. The Atlantic Cod is in part responsible for the discovery and exploration of North America and had a tremendous impact on economic development of New England and eastern Canada.
Strangely, all illustrations of this superstar fish are mediocre at best. Well I hope this work of mine has changed that, and set the bar high. I completed this in 37 hours using colored pencils.

Illumacanth, by: Rebecca Anders
From the Burning Man website: The Illumacanth is a massive fishy monster surging up from the ground, with mouth agape and brain alight. Its dark, deeply textured exterior surrounds a bright, reflective interior, into which one may venture through its toothy jaws. Elevated over its open head is a halo of silver bird-fish which dance and spin. Flame effects and undulating lights enliven this mysterious beast, and invite the participant to rest on its fins, gather inside, and sneak through its gills. The Illumacanth is a free-standing, interactive sculptural installation made primarily of metal. It provides seating and gathering space, and features flame and light effects as well as kinetic elements.

This is the only photo that I could show today from a six hour trolling fishing trip. A friend took us with high expectation that failed to work out today. I can brag about one large fish snapping one 30 pound test line when it was still in the trolling position, one large mackerel caught, and one something that was on for quite a while. Anyway, I had a large something on, it fought for quite a while and then in only 45 feet of water it went to the bottom. From there I have no idea what happened, but a 130 pound braided line got broken nearly pulling me out of the boat.
At least a story to tell people about the "fish that got away".
This is a scene snapped on my wife's little pocket camera.
This was a LONG zoom from the San Clemente Pier but I liked the sun breaking through the fog.
Sorry for being gone so long; this has been a week where we heard Monday two of our long time friends, in different places, died. We only knew Sunday they were sick and by Monday both were gone. Don will go to a funeral in Utah tomorrow but I'll stay home. My brother and his wife came to visit so it's been a crazy week. I'm back but won't be able to comment on all those missed days. Sorry, I have seen all your photos and know what's happening with you.

This fantastic large mural painting "Deep Sea Food Chain" by Bruce Mahalski is on display in Guznee Street, Wellington, New Zealand on the wooden boards of a construction site.
Deep sea fishes are fascinating and scary.. In order to survive in the dark deep ocean, they have strange features like oversized eyes and built in "lights" on their heads and bodies - even wild-wild teeth!
Check them out on google or on some of the links provided in the notes.
I believe this work might have been painted with bog-standard Resene "House Paint"?
I've added some notes with informative links.. As soon as I have all the creatures identified, I'll tag the picture with more notes. I tried online, but could not find the lot - I might have to find and ask Bruce.. (-:
