Dorothy Cynthia Shiels nee Murrell, b.1923. Dorothy is my cousin, the daughter of my Aunty Glad (Gladys Ann Murrell nee Glover). Aunty Glad is my mother's sister. Dorothy is also my godmother. She is proudly pictured here at Dee Why on Sydney's Northern Beaches in 1969, with her newly-purchased Mini.
Portrait version of the sun rising above Long Reef at Dee Why in Sydney a couple of weeks ago. Took this shot about 10 minutes after the previous post so the colours look a bit different. The clouds and the light made waking up early well worth the effort!
This photo is part of the Australian National Maritime Museum’s William J Hall collection and features what is probably the boats for NORTH STEYNE and DEE WHY clubs. The Hall collection combines photographs from both William J Hall and his father William F Hall. The images provide an important pictorial record of recreational boating in Sydney Harbour, from the 1890s to the 1930s – from large racing and cruising yachts, to the many and varied skiffs jostling on the harbour, to the new phenomenon of motor boating in the early twentieth century. The collection also includes studio portraits and images of the many spectators and crowds who followed the sailing races.
