Knitty suggested putting up command hooks, I decided to do it directly on the door. Good idea, knitty!
Well its a little over a year ago I first joined Flickr and I've absolutely LOVED the connections I've made here. I got a "bit" behind in my posting the last couple of months and have had to admit that catching up isn't possible - sometimes you have to let go of things you love to gain new memories.
In that vein I have been a Barbra Streisand fan since my brother gave me my very first record (Stoney End). That record has moved with me at least 45 times (which considering it is actually not a 45rpm is silly) in the years since - but it, and the other records of hers (and other artists) need to go as they haven't been played in years and are collecting dust.
Moving ahead with a joyous heart, open for new loves. (And yes, I'm staying on Flickr, and of course staying a Barbara Streisand fan, just starting clean this year ;)
I've wanted a new desk for quite some time, but really can't justify the expense when the table I was using is perfectly good, aside from just not fitting the small computer nook too well. Therefore, Darren and I looked around at what we could use to build a desk, and came up with this; two sheets of plywood fastened to two chunks of fence post with some very long wood screws leftover from an older project. We set it on two old nightstands. We keep thinking of ways to improve on the design, but all of them cost money, so I'll just try this one out for awhile...

Empty flat surfaces are my nemesis. Eventually things will reach a tipping point and I will declutter like a mother.
Yes, it's a mess. It needs a good declutter. We need to paint this room and put the window treatments (panel curtains) back up. We also have bookshelves that need to fit in here somewhere.
Ms. Cheeky's Workshop Week 2 Extra Credit - Decluttering my DoF. My aperture setting for this photo was 5.6. This lense does go down to 4.0 but lower than 5.6 was resulting in a "fish-eye lense" look where a circle around the turtles head was in focus and everything else was blurred in a sort of circular pattern. Weird.
And I chose black and white because I think just about everything looks better in black and white. I also shot my other Week 2 assignment in black and white and love it much better than the one that I posted, but few people would understand the sheer genius of a black and white photo of a lemon and lime. I like to say they lack vision and creativity!

in my grungy basement. Makes me want to declutter and paint. (I realize this is my third photo in four days of the same subject. Lately, it's all I've had time for, besides work and the normal boring household duties.)

It's day 10 of my 30 day "D" challenge, and a lot more than 1 thing went out today - once I got started I got on a roll and collected quite the pile for Donation. Here's the full list of items, and they're sitting on the drying racks from yesterday:
old desk chair (not pictured)
3 sets of towels
2 pairs of jeans that are too big
1 buckwheat pillow I never used
Ikea pop-up laundry hamper
2 rolls of shelf liner I'll never use
2 "flower" candle holders
1 tall jeweled candle holder
a couple DVDs
a couple stacks of empty DVD cases
a small spinning CD rack
a plant water spritzer thing
a purple fleece/leather blanket
an old-ish PC that's been cannibalized til there's nothing left but MB, CPU, and case
my lovely harrods baubles. my stepmother used to collect them, they only used to produce a certain amount of them a year, so were pretty exclusive. but then harrods started mass producing them for tourists and they weren't the same :-(
anyway, when she had a declutter, i inherited them. i'd like a purple and a green one too, at some point.

Spring is almost here! I took a break from crafty photography, and hunkered down for the winter with various projects. It also encouraged me to sift through my craft materials.
A few years ago, I was handed a grocery bag worth of buttons (I love it when crafters think of me when they declutter). Around the same time I went to a vintage fair and bought the chipmunk and bunny cards. I liked the buttons on them, but I was mostly drawn to the cute animals. These were probably old cards that the vender repurposed to make the buttons more distinctive? If so, it worked!
The buttons are mostly Domcord, Streamline, Tiffany and Lady Fashion.
I did a lot of thinking this winter about how to use up all these up. I have lots of ideas, but it will probably take me years.

PERSONAL FUN FACT: All the way back in 2004, I unearthed a 1980 Lemon Meringue dress in a bin of dolls Colleen and I found at the local flea market. Back then, I had no idea whom this dress belonged to. What I could conclude was that it wasn't made for any of Barbie's siblings/affiliates. It was also on the older side due to the metal snap closures. Beyond that, I was entirely clueless. So you can imagine my surprise when I finally solved the mystery in 2011. I was trying to identify my childhood Bandai Strawberry Shortcake dolls when I started to see pictures of the vintage Strawberry Shortcake dolls pop up. "Wow! Strawberry Shortcake dolls debuted in the 80s?!!" I thought to myself. This innocent online searched turned into major doll lust...perhaps some of the strongest I was experiencing at the time. After that, I kept my eye out at the flea markets and secondhand stores for any sort of vintage Strawberry Shortcake doll. Unfortunately luck was simply not on my side. I even remember ogling some of these dolls via eBay listings, hoping that maybe when I was done my Disney doll binge, I could get my hands on some of these old, scented cuties. Four years later, in 2015, this dream came true, and I almost passed up the opportunity. That spring, we had neighbors that were emptying out either their attic or basement. Everyday that was sunny outside, they would put a new load of stuff out on the side of the road for free. It was an easy way for them to declutter, without having to make countless trips to donate the items (and they wouldn't get thrown out). It was a Friday afternoon, when I went to pick Colleen up from work. I drove a little slower past this neighbor's house, as I always did, hoping to see treasure. But I was skeptical by this point--most of what we had seen leading up to this day was old Christmas decor and other home wares. I caught a quick glimpse of what appeared to be a doll house. "No, that can't be," I told myself. Why on earth would our neighbors put out doll stuff...it seemed to good to be true. I mentioned the doll house looking object to Colleen as we returned back home together. She was feeling much more adventurous than I, and wandered over to the house on foot once we pulled into the driveway. I was doing something inside the house, when minutes later Colleen returned, hollering at the top of her lungs. She ran down the driveway, waddling a bit, because she was carrying a huge box. She was out of breath, but managed to inform me that there was MORE doll stuff...some of which appeared to be vintage Strawberry Shortcake. Colleen had less knowledge about these scented ladies, so she hadn't grabbed more of the stuff, just the dolls she was sure of. Of course we immediately hopped into the Jeep and retrieved all the goodies. This lot was dubbed "Free Friday Finds" and it started my official vintage Strawberry Shortcake collection. This Lemon Meringue doll was one of the cuties from said bin, and one of my personal favorites. Unlike Strawberry Shortcake and Lime Chiffon, her face has retained its peachy color. She also has a thick, luscious set of curls too (well as lustrous as a vintage Strawberry Shortcake doll can have what with being so skimpily rooted). She's one of my personal favorites by far--I love her green eyes and yellow hair combo. Plus, I can sort of pick up on a lemon whiff every so often, despite how old she was, and the fact that she was rather musty smelling when I got her. I like her even more than her newer Playmates counterpart.
All the craft supplies things I'm getting rid of.
Top row: fake flowers and feather boa -> dress ups box; embroidery threads and fabrics -> rest of my threads and fabrics; a stack of CDs to be made into coasters -> cases and labels removed; tulle ->appropriate fabric box.
Bottom row: cardboard tubes -> kinder; tapestry canvas -> eBay; shoulder pads -> bin!; bag of rubbish (old cross stitch patterns and instructions, 45 cards of left over cottons from old projects, etc) -> recycling and bin; cross stitch kit -> eBay.
Decluttering in progress ..
The east wall, Ikea shelves carry scores of baskets with plenty of craft goodies.

Husband and I get massages every other week, our health insurance covers it (yay!) When husband is in with the therapist I walk over to the salvation army to have a looksy. Since the beginning of my whole declutter process I have been so picky. This time I took a few pictures, mainly because I had slacked all weekend and had not taken any at all, my own personal rules to the 365 stated that you may take make-up pictures the next day for a missed day. If I did not have this rule I would have had to stop the 2nd of January. The point to the 365 is to take your camera out, to be on the look out for interesting things at all times (makes the world a lot more wonderful), to use new settings on your camera and experiment, to study a subject and learn things from it's angles and shapes... this is what I am learning so far. It is nice.
We'd be lost without them.
A nice image saved as I declutter.
