20th December 2017:
We spent this morning at the Clinic at Lannion having hearing tests.
I'd taken my camera in the hope of finding something interesting to take, but it was dull and miserable and drizzling.
So in the end I just took this shot of the entryway to the ENT department or ORL to be more correct.
So exciting!

When I took the monkey nurse at the beginning of November I'd also seen this one playing golf, but couldn't get a clear shot. He was right at the front of the window this morning and I couldn't leave him there without taking his photo.
Here's the nurse:

It's cold. Attendance may be light at Walleye Madness (our town's New Year's Eve celebration involving a big fiberglass fish being dropped from a crane). But the area hotels and restaurants should benefit from the favorable conditions for ice fishing.
I was told that this was three cornered garlic. It is better known as Three Cornered Leek.

It is also a highly invasive plant and in some countries it is forbidden to plant it in the wild.

Governor's Palace
Decorated for Christmas
Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia
The warm light and shadows that come rather early in winter make it delightful to be out in the afternoon. This was taken one week before Christmas, just before our area went into a cold spell that is still very much with us; the high temperature of 62 (nearly 15 degrees above the long-term average) added to the enjoyment of the afternoon, and makes the memory more pleasant, as well.
Completed in 1722, Virginia's Governor's Palace was home to the first two governors of the state of Virginia after independence from England -- Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson -- as well as to seven royal governors prior to independence. In 1780, Virginia relocated its capital to Richmond. Governor's Palace was destroyed by fire in December 1781; its reconstruction began in 1930 as part of the restoration of Colonial Williamsburg, guided by historic records and drawings, including a floor plan drawing by Thomas Jefferson.

We decided it was time to get the Christmas cake out and decorate it. If there's room after cold lamb and chips and a small helping of Christmas pudding we might even have a very small slice later.
With many thanks to my sister for making and getting our cake to us.

Well you had Rufus yesterday, so now it's her turn.

Digging into the ancient archives again for some much needed light and colour. Taken way back in 2015.

Mary Ann's family recipe. It calls for a half cup of white rum and a pint (about half a litre) of brandy. Beaten egg whites, garnished with nutmeg, float on top. She only makes it at Christmas and it's always popular.
Cozy moments around the fireplace this time of the year.
Being with friends and family, enjoying drinks.
Lovely pink.
Found a few photos from November that I'd forgotten about.

Running into her final weeks in service, is 18 year old Dennis Dart T139 EFJ, pictured here in the uninspiring Kings Tamerton area of Plymouth. Only three pre-2000 Darts remain in service, with 33 and 39 the next due to be withdrawn. Surprisingly, the oldest, 17, is due to stay in service for a little longer, due to its superior condition in comparison to the remaining T regs.
It may come as a surprise but snowy owls don’t hoot. In fact, the sounds they make are likely nothing that the average person would associate with an owl. So if an owl doesn’t have to hoot, then a human doesn’t have to believe, to celebrate the reason for the season! I wish you all peace, love, kindness, and joy on this holiday season. #SnowyOwl
York’s hidden gem. Down a snickleway (alley) behind Goodramgate. See two of the Minster’s towers either side of the church.
With 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, a dog's sense of smell is 40 times greater than humans.
It was a dreary Saturday afternoon at Barnegat two weekends ago. The jetty, usually peppered with fishermen and aspiring naturists, was noticeably empty. Long-tailed ducks, however, hung close to the inlet’s south side. Swallowed by the incoming tide, they would take to the air, flying parallel to the rocks and land on Barnegat’s unpredictable waters closer to its opening to the sea. I sat there, in the cool drizzle, enjoying their antics and smiling as they took to the air, only to land, bouncing across the surface like a skipping stone thrown across a summer’s evening lake. They are living proof that birds do bounce and aging men can smile. #Longtailedducks
Yes, there is a sunroom up there, as well as a huge balcony.

One of two Jackdaws that were perching on a chimney pot. Saw loads of Sparrows and some Blackbirds too, but they weren't staying still.

I finished my afghan a few days early. The temperatures for the next week and more were all going to be well below the range that would require a color change.
It's a Christmas tradition in our house that we hide a glass pickle ornament on the tree that the kids look for to "win" a special gift - the "pickle prize". I decided to make this afghan the pickle prize and the competition to find the pickle was fierce. I also hid it very well this year and it took a record 15 minutes to find it! In the end, my youngest won the afghan and he couldn't have been happier!

The new extension to the Waterfront Hall got a lot of bad press when it was first built, but I kinda like it. Looks a bit like something out of Batman,
1st December 2017:
When I got back in from visiting the car park I noticed this in the patio door. I've seen it before, but hadn't got a good photo of it.
Just love how it looks like a third of our sideboard is outside.
A slight crop, but otherwise SOOC.
