Trying a different fat mix, hoping the Long Tailed Tit's will linger, the Robin gave it a taste test.
Last sunset of 2017 over Dunlaoghaire, Dublin, Ireland, taken from Sandycove.
It was a cold dry day in Dublin up to early afternoon, when the rain arrived. Fortunately the rain stopped just around sunset so I was able to get some photos of the changing light and clouds.
I was almost frozen but some brave people went for a swim in the Forty Foot just behind me

27th December 2017:
Thank goodness for Christmas presents. It's blowing a howler outside and it's not encouraging me to go out, even though for once it hasn't rained all day.
I took my new writing paper and envelopes out of the protective plastic box and added my favourite biros. I might have got away with taking it into the garden, but it or I might have got blown away!
My only problem is, am I ever going to use it. I can't remember when I last wrote a hand written letter. :0(

This is the final Super Moon for 2017. Well, close. It actually occurred on 12/3/2017 when it was one-tenth of one percent more full.
Ruth Ann and I will have a quiet day at home on Christmas (today), but Tuesday all the family members who live in Virginia will be at Carol, Jim, and Isabella's home near Williamsburg.
Happy Holidays!

15th December 2017:
The left hand side of my our bed used to snore terribly so I had earplugs to get some sleep. For quite awhile all has been quiet and I stopped buying them. The left hand side of the bed had stopped snoring.
Oh no; for the last week and a half I've been kept awake by the left hand side of my our bed. So when Rufus took it him out for a walk yesterday, I suggested they stopped off at the chemist and bought me some earplugs. They did and I had the best night's sleep in ages. The left hand side of our bed may have snored, but I couldn't hear it.
Although the sun made a rare appearance this morning the wind was pretty strong and horribly cold. I just didn't want to go out for more than a few minutes. So I took my props out as far as the garden table, placed them in various ways and took some photos. This is the one that I happened to like the best.

Wasn't sure if I had any bows, but then remembered I still had the box with one on from Christmas last year as I liked the box and bow.
Always a button around, that needs sewing back on to whatever it came off!!

This is the other half of the road going down towards the beach. It's the part nearest home.

25th December 2017:
We got the decorations out to put on the top of the Christmas cake, but they didn't get any further than the breakfast bar.
Maybe we'll have some room left after dinner tomorrow evening to have a mince pie and a slice of cake.

13th December 2017:
I've had this idea going through my head for awhile now, although it's not quite what I'm after, but that might come later.
Although it's not raining - at the moment, there's a very cold wind blowing which kept me inside. I did get as far as the garden!
I was determined to get to grips with the white balance on the Panasonic for a start. (Which will please Les Fisher I'm sure!)
So I got my black glove and my white stiff paper and fired off a few photos. In some of them I had to adjust the white balance afterwards, but making sure I'd set the WB correctly on the camera for this one, other than a slight crop is SOOC.
Now all I need to do now is check I can take an inside photo next without making a mess with my horrible orange light.
I'm fighting my way through the battle of leaving comments. Sorry if they all look a bit different to the way I usually write them. Though Flickr staff say they're working on it ................

Unfortunately I missed the landing of this beautiful lady, but she was kind enough to pose for a couple minutes, did some stretching and took off to keep looking for prey.
That is how this Great Blue Heron described himself on the dating app for birds. Maybe he wasn't being misleading! (for those of you not familiar with American idioms, that means tall and good-looking).
Blackpool Lifeboat had just been launched on this Sunday morning ...this was a practice launch ...a colleague of mine works for the Coastguard
I've taken these front steps before, but at the time didn't notice the ones on the left too. So here's the two sets together.

A very Happy Christmas to everyone, especially those who won't be around on Christmas Day.

. . . The cardinal rule when photographing snowy owls is DO NOT get too close so as to scare them and make them fly!
In this case, a woman who was not paying attention came strolling down the dirt road where 3 or 4 of us where camped out watching this owl, and forced it to fly. We tried to wave her off from the other side, but she thought we were just being very friendly!
Have a great pre-Christmas week Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!
Saw this Jackdaw almost as soon as I'd left home and in case I didn't see anything else grabbed a couple of photos. At least the sky was blue at this stage.

9th December 2017:
Christmas arrived in a big box this morning. Sarah (my sister) sarah p packham managed to get our Christmas pudding, cake and mince pies to us. Along with some chocolate money and the two little figures, they're decorations for the cake but are also edible.
Gone down with rather an uncomfortable sore throat and need to be better by tomorrow, so I'm afraid this is a dump and run. Also excuse the clutter behind the goodies, I wasn't really concentrating on what I was doing.
Forgot to add that although the pudding and mince pies are shop bought the cake is home made. :O)

The Greta oto, or Glasswing Butterfly is found in Central and South America. Most butterflies have tiny scales that adhere to the wing surface, giving them their color. Have you’ve ever held a butterfly and seen a powdery substance on your hands afterward? This powder is made up of some of the scales that have rubbed off. Glasswings have some of these scales on the periphery of the wings but the rest of the wing membranes are scale free, and therefore, clear. It’s clear that this adaptation may render them more difficult to see, track, and capture. It’s kind of a twist on an old adage, “What you see is what you get!” So, maybe the inverse is true…transparency is allusivity. #GlasswingButterfly
