Paula Charles was sacked from her job in a church kindergarten due to her HIV status. Her daughter used to help her financially but the Haiti earthquake in 2010 destroyed her place of work and Paula now relies on help from Christian Aid partner POZ.

World AIDS Day
World AIDS Day is held on 1 December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and the first one was held in 1988.

Stop AIDS: Keep the Promise!
When Flora Alfred was diagnosed as HIV+, hospital staff in Khartoum, Sudan refused to care for her. She was told that she would soon die, but the people she met through Christian Aid partner SPCA gave Flora a new sense of hope. She now provides counselling and support for others living with HIV.
