COVID Christmas morning in Greensboro, North Carolina. It was brutally cold Christmas, at least for Greensboro standards, but at least the sunrise was beautiful.

Merry Christmas!🎄☃️

We were fortunate enough to be invited to stay on Ward's Island for the night of Dec. 25. After a fabulous breakfast we had a long walk and although it was raining there was quite a bit of ice in this spot.

Grey squirrel, Dec25, 2020, Rondeau Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada.

Our yard attracts many squirrels, they clean up under the feeders and when they can the clean the feeders right out.

The North American Grey squirrel is native to this area of Southern Ontario and these animals occur in grey or black, and sometimes their fur has a reddish tinge. Its belly is often white and it has a large bushy tail. Particularly in urban areas where the risk of predation is reduced, both white and black coloured varieties are quite often found.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. Living on Vancouver Island, in recent memory we haven't experienced many White Christmases, unsure whether that is a memory or weather problem. This year was different; it started snowing on the afternoon of the 24th and continued well into the night to give us this when we woke up.

Cake.... (a long story - shortened)

I had an OLD orange cake mix, which I baked in early Dec. It was so nasty, it tasted like baby aspirins..... gag, gag, gag.... The store didn't have any orange mixes, so we had a lemon cake instead.

I've been a big fan of Mumford & Sons since first seeing them playing at the tiny Bullingdon venue in Oxford back in 2009. It was an incredibly sweaty but fun gig and it was clear they were going to go far.

Cut to December 2025 and they were still fantastic when I saw them at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.

From Wikipedia, "Mumford & Sons have been described by The Hollywood Reporter and Forbes as a folk rock band. They began by using bluegrass and folk instrumentation, with the core instruments of acoustic guitar, banjo, piano and a double bass, played with a rhythmic style based in alternative rock and folk. In the documentary Big Easy Express, Marcus Mumford recognises the Old Crow Medicine Show influence: "I first heard Old Crow's music when I was, like, 16, 17, and that really got me into, like, folk music, bluegrass. I mean, I'd listened to a lot of Dylan, but I hadn't really ventured into the country world so much. So Old Crow was the band that made me fall in love with country music." Mumford acknowledges that "the band inspired them to pick up the banjo and start their now famous country nights in London." Ketch Secor, Old Crow front-man, concurs: "Those boys took the message and ran with it.""

This white-breasted nuthatch enjoys the black sunflower seeds as the snow falls softly around it in our backyard. It can be a pretty sight until the wind-chill factor becomes -35 and then it is no longer pretty.

On Christmas morning, the children woke up early and immediately wanted to play with the presents they had received the previous evening.

Have a Wonderful Christmas x

We treated ourselves to a real Nordmann fir tree (five foot tall) to stand in the garden. Hopefully we can keep it throughout the year and use it for many years to come. Now decorated, it stands beside Rudolf, the reindeer, I was given several years ago. :)

But not beachy!

Why do engineers confuse Halloween with Christmas? Because Oct31=Dec25.

A brisk walk on Christmas Day is a good idea!

Today... Sunday...we still don't have snow on the ground... A change from last year when we had already had about seven or eight weeks of the white stuff!

There are still lots of ducks , gulls and geese around as well...pity the ski resort places....waiting...... Waiting.....
