When my wife and I first started dating we’d always catch the latest flick at a local movie theater on Sundays. I would always check for a midday showtime because I knew I’d get to shoot UP’s Day Bud Local that worked the LA Times printing plant spur across the street, with a friendly crew that was always good for a chat. These guys were great, they always posed their train in great light for a photo and asked if I got the photos I wanted, just because.
One Sunday, I was asked by engineer Jimmy Escalante (with sunglasses) if I would sell him the photographs I'd taken through the years as a keepsake because he would be retiring soon. I was honored, with all the info these guys were willing to give me, I told him that I would do him one better and just give him the photographs, which made him extremely happy. So the following Sunday, my wife and I showed up with prints in hand as well as a few portraits of the crew on the front end of their locomotive. The guys were delighted as was Jimmy so he invited us into the cab for a photograph of our own.
So here I am with my first ever visit inside of a working locomotive, and a true SP locomotive to boot! My wife had this big smile on her face when I finally climbed off saying that I looked like a little boy with a humongous grin from ear to ear when I posed for the photo. She declined to join me in the cab, but took one with me on the front end. Needless to say this is one of our (mine for sure) favorite memories. 5/18/03

I am pretty sure they were boyfriend and girlfriend.
What better date than going mackerel fishing together, sharing one rod, on Teelin Pier when the fish are in! ...or is that just me. I gave them a tiny bit of help in giving them a fishing weight.
It struck me that this date it was probably a good test of compatibility and an exercise in relationship building that would be good for problem solving together later on. ...I wish them well.

Anglican parish church, 1849 by J.H.Hakewill, squared rubble stone with stone slate roof, coped gables, finials and ashlar gabled west bellcote. Nave, south porch, transepts and chancel, plain Early English style with lancet windows, angle buttresses to nave and chancel, side buttresses to transepts and porch. Nave has two west lancets with linked hoodmoulds, paired lancets each side, two to north, one and gabled projecting porch to south. Transepts have two end-wall lancets with linked hoodmoulds and one each side. Chancel has sill-course and two lancets with hoodmoulds each side, south side centre door and east end 3-light window with hoodmould. Interior: complete encaustic tile flooring, apparently C19 but said to include some medieval tiles. Nave has arch-braced-collar rafter roof, chancel has boarded 5-sided roof. Fittings: fine c1200 stone font with raised triangle-headed arcading. C15 timber screen of 4-lights each side of Tudor-arched centre. Traceried heads to lights, carved spandrels to centre and brattished cornice. C19 pulpit. In chancel north wall C14 female effigy said to be of Isabella Mompesson. In south transept C13 effigy of a knight, said to be W. de Clifford, who founded the church 1172, and 1678 and 1700 carved plaques to Robert and Rebekah Stratton. In nave, north wall pedimented plaque to J. Jenkins died 1764 and fine open pedimented plaque to C. Bayliffe died 1735. Stained glass: unusual east window of 1849 combining painted and stained glass, chancel lancets each side of c1878 and 1890. One nave north window of c1875. West end organ by W.
