I owe this shot to my good friend Kenny Mullen. Story below👇
5 years ago Kenny and I were driving some backroads when he yelled “stop”. I didn’t see anything close by, so I asked what was up. Kenny replied “way out there in the distance!”. I scanned around the hills and couldn’t see anything, but then finally I saw it… We proceeded to get some memorable shots with our big lenses
Fast forward through the years and I’ve stopped to check this big glass comp many, many times (at least 30+). But it was never as good as when we first scored it
Deep down I knew that if the perfect conditions intersected this comp it could become magical. So, I stayed my course, and checked it often, but nothing much ever came of it
Then finally during this recent stretch-run of storms it all came together
I noticed the conditions were in the ball park one morning, so I got my 700mm ready, set up, and waited
But the clouds kept holding and very little light was getting through. After about 45 minutes I was about to give up… but then I noticed a dapple spotlight to the south of target moving in the direction I needed it to. I crossed my fingers and waited. Sure enough it intersected the comp perfectly, even providing a magical virga backdrop as it passed through. But just as quickly as it intersected, it was gone. The moment literally lasted a few seconds
I knew the moment I pressed the trigger that I had captured something amazing. This has now become one of my top 3 favorite shots I’ve ever captured up to this point
Thank you Kenny! Without your keen awareness I might have never seen the potential

This little doll was made for me by one of my cousins years ago. The head is inspired by the « Apple dapple « dolls but they’re made of clay. The wings out of bay leaves. Over the years and many moves, one of the lovely wings broke off.
Our '94 Morgan Plus 8 in a Redwood grove where we parked for a picnic on our 54th anniversary jaunt. Lucky me, as Cathie loves it as much as I do. With the stock all aluminum small block V-8 (the one Buick gave to Rover years ago) It is very much like driving a mid 30s Grand Prix car on your own roads and highways. Northern California has so many ideal winding roads with super sights.......perfect for a Morgan or any sports car sans top, or any bike (motorized or not) We were lucky to have a clear day.

The air, a whisper, sweet and keen, With scents of pine and summer green. Sunlight dapples through the leaves, A golden tapestry it weaves.
The river's song, a gentle flow, Where ancient, mossy stones still glow. A distant bird, its call so clear, A melody to hold so dear.
The ancient trees, with branches high, Stand silent, watching seasons fly. Their roots run deep, a steady hand, The steadfast heart of this dear land.
Beneath the sky, a canvas wide, Where peace and beauty softly ride. This place, a balm, a gentle grace, A smile reflected on my face.
Each breeze that stirs, each ray that falls, Responds to beauty's heartfelt calls. Here, stillness reigns, and worries cease, Within this haven, I find peace.

The waters of Panther Creek have been washing and eroding the land that stands in its way in its rush to make it to the Wind River. I pondered this last bastion for a while and had to wonder if these trees would be here next year.
I think this looks really good full screen so blow it up if you have the time, and as always, thanks for taking a peek.
the map marker is approximate, it's eight miles up that fs road.

“The Windhover”
by: Gerard Manley Hopkins
To Christ our Lord
I caught this morning morning’s minion, king-
dom of daylight’s dauphin, dapple-dawn-drawn Falcon, in his riding
Of the rolling level underneath him steady air, and striding
High there, how he rung upon the rein of a wimpling wing
In his ecstasy! then off, off forth on swing,
As a skate’s heel sweeps smooth on a bow-bend: the hurl and gliding
Rebuffed the big wind. My heart in hiding
Stirred for a bird,—the achieve of, the mastery of the thing!
Brute beauty and valour and act, oh, air, pride, plume, here
Buckle! AND the fire that breaks from thee then, a billion
Times told lovelier, more dangerous, O my chevalier!
No wonder of it: sheer plod makes plough down sillion
Shine, and blue-bleak embers, ah my dear,
Fall, gall themselves, and gash gold-vermillion.
There are pine trees at the botanical garden that trimmed and clipped like Bonsai trees. This was probably my favorite place that day. The light through the trees and the soft serene feeling of the area was perfect and of course dapples of light.
It seems I can't walk by/up/down stairs without photographing them. If you are a qualified therapist feel free to explain this strange proclivity. Even if you aren't qualified feel free to speculate. Please see the first comment box below for a 'few' more steps and stairs. Don't say I didn't warn you. :)
