First day of eliminations for Dance World Cup 2017, Kraków, Poland

"The Dance"

Last week in Bayfield, Nova Scotia.

The male adders were dancing today at the British Wildlife Centre in Surrey. Spring is definitely in full flow and these bad boys were trying to impress. Sadly they didn't cut the mustard as the female wasn't around! If you are able to visit I think the continuing warm weather will mean there will be many more chances to see this fabulous spectacle!

Dogwood week 49. Portrait Dancing. I knew that I wanted to try rear curtain sync for this one and was lucky enough to visit a friend's studio. Mostly got the timing hopelessly wrong but this was the best. Enjoyed it .

Bhutan, the land of the Thunder Dragon, is known for its rich cultural heritage and deeply rooted Buddhist traditions.

Among the many religious festivals celebrated in this Himalayan kingdom, Tshechu stands out as the most important and vibrant of them all.

Also known as the Mask Dance Festival, Tshechu is a time of spiritual devotion, cultural celebration, and social gathering for the Bhutanese people.

The dancer could be performed by both monks and laymen.

A Tshechu (literally "day ten") is held once a year in each district or dzongkhag of Bhutan on the tenth day of a month of the lunar Tibetan calendar. The month depends on the place.

They are large social gatherings, which perform the function of social bonding among people of remote and spread-out villages.

The focal point of the tshechus are costumed masked dances (Cham dances).

Some believe that the War dance Societies of the Ponca and other Southern Plains Tribes were the origin of the Pow Wow. A Pow Wow is a Native American tradition that brings together many different tribes and communities. It’s a special event for Native American communities that celebrates dance, song, socializing and honors a rich heritage. While some Pow Wows are private and only for various Native American communities, many are open to the public.

A simple touch, long eye contact, smiles and movement, this is the dance of the renaissance. Maypole dance at Castle of Muskogee.

Somewhere two not too small sandstone formations lost in the Navajo Nation. It’s name, Dancing Rocks seems quite appropriate, although the Native people call it also Whale Rock. I was not able to find the Navajo tale around the name Dancing Rocks, nor did I find its original Navajo name. The Navajo person who I gave a hitch hike close to it didn’t know it either.

Dance (I) marks a moment in Matisse’s career when he embraced a reductive approach to painting, seeking the expressive potentials of fundamental elements: line, color, and form. This daring approach was influenced by the increasing sophistication of photographic technology. In 1909—the year of this painting—the artist observed, “The painter no longer has to preoccupy himself with details. The photograph is there to render the multitude of details a hundred times better and more quickly. Plastic form will present emotion as directly as possible and by the simplest means.”

The Kurilpa Derby parade. The Kurilpa Derby is an annual event as part of the West End Community festival to have a colourful street parade and street race with anything on two wheels. The crazier the better. Always fun to watch.

Bharatanatyam, a pre-eminent Indian classical dance form presumably the oldest classical dance heritage of India is regarded as mother of many other Indian classical dance forms. Conventionally a solo dance performed only by women, it initiated in the Hindu temples of Tamil Nadu and eventually flourished in South India.
