Aan de vooravond van Moederdag, op zaterdag 9 mei, organiseerden Sensoa en Amnesty International Moedernacht in Leuven. Moedernacht stond in het teken van moedersterfte in het Zuiden. De hoogzwangere Goedele Wachters (VRT) nam de presentatie voor haar rekening. Lieve Blancquaert gaf tekst en uitleg over de aangrijpende documentaire ‘Kraambed Congo’ en vertelde over haar ervaringen in het land. Na een streepje muziek van Amatorski (Humo’s Rock Rally-finalist) getuigde mevrouw D.A.Traore van de NGO Family Care International over haar werk in Burkina Faso waar ze zich op het terrein actief inzet om moedersterfte terug te dringen. Nadien volgde er een debat tussen Marleen Temmerman, Hilde Vautmans (leden van de Parlementairen voor de Millenniumdoelstellingen) en Peter Persyn van de NGO Memisa. De boeiende avond sloot af met een drankje. Het evenement lokte een 120tal bezoekers, kreeg vele positieve reacties en genoot veel mediabelangstelling.
3FM Serious Request vaagt dit jaar aandacht voor de allerkleinsten. Elk jaar sterven er namelijk 5,5 miljoen baby's. Met jouw donatie hopen we dit cijfer terug te dringen!
