I had a surprise opportunity to dress today as the wife attended a previously unscheduled event. I started the session with a new dress:

Here's the data on this a-line jumper:

Manufacturer/line/store: Mossimo (Target)

Date: March 2015

The blouse is by Basic Editions, from Kmart in November 2014; the shoes are Christian Siriano "Manic" blue pumps, from Payless back in February; other accesories are a blue-striped bow, scarf, silver jewelry, blue belt (also new!), and natural hose.

Don't forget your bikini and this super cute Element Yacht Club Dress in Navy Plaid when you hit the beach party. The large green and navy blue plaid sets the playful tone for this classically cut sundress style. A sweetheart neckline is ruched at the bust. Straps cross in the back and have an elastic section for the best possible fit. Smocking in the back also helps to show off your curves. Pleating extends from the empire waistline and pockets at the hip give you practicality. Kick pleat in the back and button accents for the straps are functional so you can uncross them. Size small is 27" down the center of the back. 100% Cotton. Imported.

I made this dress from McCall's pattern 4280, a maternity pattern from 1974. Some things that I changed were:

(1)instead of using rick-rack, I used the daisy trim

(2)I made it short sleeved

(3)I added a tie-back to accentuate my (still present) waist.

I may decide to raise the hem.

I had the fabric left-over from a home-decorating project I never completed, and the pattern was given to me by my mom. I had to purchase the daisy trim, the zipper, and the interfacing. Total cost: about $7.00.

This is the result of my 3 am ponderings on the construction of a 16th Century working class woman's Netherlandish or Flemish Dress. More specifically dealing with the unmatching bodice/skirt colors.

Washi dress (pattern from Made by Rae) using Raindrops Poppies in Candy by AMH. It was easy to make! The directions were clear and gave several options.

I'd forgotten just how great this dress looks...

The blue rectangle print dress is from Fashion Bug in October 2012; the shoes are Christian Siriano "Manic" blue pumps, from Payless in February 2015. Other accessories are a blue bow, silver jewelry, and white hose.

I recently covered this bride's final dress fitting, which was a lot of fun! The color images were all shot using Kodak Vision3 500T movie film, and then processed using elven magic. I believe I shot these at ISO 800 with an 50mm f/1.4 lens, but I'm not sure. I used bounced strobe (with a 1/2 CTO gel, because the film is tungsten balanced) as fill.

Another day in Michelle's Pretty Year. Can a cash-strapped fashionista with $250 in her pocket create 250 different outfits from the contents of her closet? Find out at theprettyyear.com!

I see someone in jeans with rips in the knees that says ‘Go Home’ on their knees. I think that this tells the story of a girl being sent home because she doesn’t follow the dress code. This makes me remember as a young girl being worried that my tank top straps were too skinny and that I was always worried that I would get in trouble. I think it’s extremely frustrating that as a young girl I wasn’t allowed to show my shoulders, I didn’t understand then and I still don’t. I think that schools still enforce this rule because society has this idea that shoulders are too promiscuous based on the fashion of older times. I believe that this photo can educate people on how fashion trends can send people home from school, that these people who wear ‘promiscuous clothing will be denied education based on the premise that their knees or shoulders are ‘too’ distracting. I think to help resolve this violence in the education system is to review the code of conduct and update it to be more reasonable and doable for the average student, I also believe we should change the idea of sending people home because of what they’re wearing because it benefits no one.
