The colour of the Dragon changing after few minutes at night.

Not far from where we were staying, I recorded this with little time to get there. Fortunately, I had scouted this place earlier in the day, just incase an opportunity were to arise. The clouds in the rest of the sky refused to play their part, and instead went from white to grey. However, remembering the power lines in this location, gave me an idea to use with this "Dragon's Tail" of light.

Lasting for what seemed no more than an instant, the light quickly faded. The silhouettes of both power lines and poles, served as major elements to the success of this shot, contrasting with the light. The dark greyish blue sky helped accentuate the bright streaking cloud, while the hill contributed as the ideal negative space.

FESTIVAL DRAGONS & LANTERNES, Jardin d'Acclimatation

This dragon was breathing smoke whilst walking along in the parade. It was great to see so many people having fun.

When I saw this happening across the lake, I knew it would be necessary to get lower than my perch above. Getting there was very challenging but looked much better than on top of the higher rocks. Closer to the water gave a more intimate look and helped the foreground.

The Welsh Dragon at the ICC Wales, Newport. We were here to visit the Wales and West Photography Show which we really enjoyed. I asked my husband to stand next to the dragon to give it scale. It's very impressive!

(Do You See It?) Looking though pics this morning from Italy May 2017, I noticed a dragon above in this shot of Pompeii. Not a good city to be in and see a dragon---given their history.... lol

The sharp-edged mountain peaks of the massif Cadini di Misurina on a dull and rainy autumn morning.

I saw some lighting and tried to capture the dragon fly so that there is some back lighting for this portrait. I used photoshop to crop the image and to do some minor change. Hope you guys like it. Have a great day!!

The photo took from Dragon Bombing Festival in Miaoli in Taiwan. The dragon team danced in the bombing for praying a fortune new year. I found a high point before the event and waiting for a right moment. The smog hangs over the field, and the scattered spotlight sculpted the silhouette of mysterious dragon team.

2015苗栗火旁龍

The first Dragon Bombing in Miaoli might be happened in 1950’s. The owner of Hsin-Kuan Weaving Mill in Tou-Wu township invited a dragon team to dance for praying a fortune new year. He prepared firecrackers and big red envelops to encourage his employees bombing the dragon. The Weaving Mill workers believed by doing this, they could keep disease away and stayed healthy.

Now, Dragon Bombing in Miaoli is a special Hakka custom for Lantern Festival. The event can be traced back to ancient tradition. From the local citizens point of view, the six steps of Pasting Dragon, Dotting Eyes, Welcoming the Dragon, Street Parade, Bombing the Dragon, and Dragon Ascending symbolize a religious shower. Local people feel reborn from the whole process. As Taiwan tries to attract more international tourist come to see this beautiful island. The Dragon Bombing in Miaoli is becoming more in culture content and richer in tourism experiencing.

Dragons Breath

Omen

Gaze into the valley where broken bodies lie

Watch the smoke that's rising a sign that more shall die

The beast has taken many the ashes tell the tale

Lord we ask for mercy and set out on the trail

Give us all sanctuary dragon's breath we fear

Shelter us from the burning dragon's breath is near

Spitting flame and fire dragon's here

So, after an “interesting” week for me, I finally managed to get out tonight (Sunday arvo) and use my gear.

I was at home all morning on a very wet Sydney day, but something told me, after all the rain, sunset May just go off…

And go off it did. Wow!

That sky just gave me goosebumps every time I pressed the shutter.

So happy I took the chance.

Thanks to my mate Paul for coming along and for taking me to this location.

A great finish to a not so great week.

Hope you like “Dragons Breath”

Cheers, Mike

After spending the whole morning at Haukland Beach, we were freezing, so we headed back to our rorbu to warm up and have a quick lunch (including the famous Kvikk Lunsj). For sunset, we decided to explore Uttakleiv Beach, which is home to the famous Dragon's Eye, a small spherical boulder lying in a water-filled depression, but due to its popularity, I didn't expect us to be the only ones. When we arrived at the parking lot, we could see the Dragon's Eye from afar because two photographers had set up their cameras there waiting for the light. All the other photographers had moved on to other compositions, probably because the Dragon's Eye only allows one or two tripods right next to it. Nevertheless, we went down, hoping these photographers would leave soon, but before they packed up, another group of photographers showed up and claimed the spot for themselves.

In fact, I didn’t even took a smartphone image of it, since I also noticed that the snow on the dark rocks right next to it was full of footprints, and as this is a wide-angle composition these would inevitably be visible in the frame. Moreover, I thought that we would definitely return to this spot, but at the time I didn’t realize that this is a low-tide location and the tide would be rising the next days for sunrise and sunset. Instead of waiting I decided to look for other compositions and a few meters to the right of the Dragon’s Eye I spotted not one, but a few round boulders submerged in the frozen water in a depression that was surrounded by dark rocks that were covered by a pristine layer of fresh snow. I was immediately drawn to this composition and after setting up my tripod on the slippery rocks, I took most of the shots without a polarizer, thinking that the reflection would add to the image. Fortunately, I also put on my polarizer for one set of focus stack shots which I much prefer due to the better visibility of the boulders, even though the polarizer didn’t manage to cut all the reflections which I then tried to mitigate in post. So even though I didn’t get a chance to shoot the Dragon’s Eye, I’m very happy with this image of a composition I haven’t seen before. I hope you like it too!

The "beard" of this lizard is located on the throat and turns black when they are stressed.

In honor of the season finale of Game of Thrones tonight we decided to post a picture we took of a different kind of dragon. We underexposed the background of this image so the lizard would stand out as it rested on a rock and basked in the light.

The de Havilland Dragon Rapide is a classic British twin-engine biplane used for short-haul passenger flights and utility transport. It gained popularity in the 1930s and was also used in various roles during World War II. Known for its reliability and comfort, it remains a cherished vintage aircraft.

Just part of the most amazing dragon sculpture seen at this weekend's craft show at RHS Hyde Hall! The talented artist who created this beauty is Steven Ritchie! What the picture doesn't show is that scale of the thing - the sculpture is massive!
