Series of six. My first Red-throated Diver. Interesting to be able to compare it with the Black and Northern at the same time. This is definitely my favourite of the pics.
A few more from Shetland, of a bird I was most hoping to see during my time there. I'll be back again in the Summer next year, and very much hope to catch up with them again.
As per my earlier posts of this bird, these photos were taken under controlled circumstances and under the provision of a Schedule 1 license holder.
Finally caught up with the juvenile GND at Ramsgate harbour this afternoon. Even watched it catch and eventually swallow a Plaice (i think) Thanks for the info Nick..
The species is known as an Arctic loon in North America and the black-throated diver in Eurasia. Gavia arctica.

When the Dreamzzz cauldron half piece was revealed, I was sure it was initially designed to be a diving helmet. Apparently, it is not. But it should have been!

I only managed to get out once for photography in December 2021 and that was on the 14th, two days after a Great Northern Diver had been reported at Farmoor Reservoir, Oxfordshire.
It was an overcast day with low light.
I located the Diver very quickly and spent the first 45 minutes observing it on my own. This Great Northern Diver is a star bird for Farmoor.
The Common Loon or Great Northern Diver is a large member of the loon, or diver, family of birds.
This Great Northern Diver was reported as a Juvenile.

Gavia arctica. (Also known as Black-throated Loon and Arctic Loon) Viewed at Mercers Lake, Surrey.
Shown in winter plumage.
'The Bathing Belle' is an Art Deco galvanised steel statue of a Victorian swimmer by Craig Knowles an English artist and blacksmith. It is situated on the harbour wall at Scarborough, North Yorkshire. I have erased the plinth to give the impression that she is in midair.
