Seljalandsfoss was one of the first waterfall photos I saw of Iceland and upon seeing it I was amazed and knew I had to visit one day. So to finally see it in person was definitely a dream come true! One of the unique features of this waterfall is you can walk behind it, however when I went in March the ice was starting to melt and we were discouraged from walking behind or risk getting impaled by falling ice shards. Ah well, all the reason to visit Iceland again!
Some amusing things that happened here:
1. There was a small Icelandic wedding happening that day in front of the waterfall with the guys dressed in suits, the bride, and bridesmaids in their matching dresses. It was probably right around 32F/0C that day so I salute them for toughing it out.
2. There was a girl who tried to follow her much taller boyfriend in jumping across one of the side streams. She thought she made it across but then fell backwards into the water and was soaked from head to toe. Again it was 32F/0C that day :) At least the boyfriend was a gentleman and held up a towel to cover the door while she changed in the car later.
My first time near these incredible animals!! This handsome chap is a Tanuki Raccoon dog!! Though I stress that they are not Raccoons or dogs! Extremely popular in the pet trade and whilst you can own one in the UK, it is illegal to breed, buy or sell them. The RSPCA discourage anyone from owning one.
This young man was photographed at the Ark and all of their Tanuki's have been rescued from the pet trade.

"Oh, give me a home,
Where the buffalo roam...
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word..."
(lines from a version of an American folk song, "Home on the Range")
Huge herds of American Bison, numbering in the hundreds of thousands once freely roamed the plains. Now, they are confined to small herds in parks and nature preserves. This herd of about 100 individuals freely roam (with the confines of) the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, near Denver, Colorado
-------------------------------------------
Of all the Tuscan cities, Livorno is usually considered the most modern, although in its territory there are several historical, artistic and architectural testimonies that survived the massive bombings of the Second World War and subsequent reconstruction. It is famous for giving birth to prestigious personalities and great artists (Amedeo Modigliani, Pietro Mascagni, Giovanni Fattori, Piero Ciampi and many others).
The ditches of Livorno is a moat (not to be confused with a canal) which originally followed the perimeter of the fortified city and which, following the demolition of the ramparts, definitively lost its defensive function. The system of the ditches and canals of Livorno, although subject to numerous changes over the centuries, maintains much of its charm unchanged, so much so that, since 2002, its inclusion in the list of World Heritage Sites has been advocated .
In addition, tradition has it that Amedeo Modigliani, discouraged in 1909, misunderstood and derided by the city and his artist friends, decided to throw some of his sculptures in the Fosso Reale before returning to Paris, the city where he spent the rest of his days and where today he is buried in the Père-Lachaise cemetery.
In the stretch between the Market of provisions and the church of the Dutch in the early eighties, the works for their research were started, with the discovery of three heads, initially attributed to the master, but which then turned out to be resounding fakes.

This is the inner part of the Banteay Samrey Temple, showing one of two libraries. Built during the middle of the 12th century, and restored in the 1930s, the name was derived from the Samre people; I visited the nearby Pradak village where the villagers are said to be the descendants of the Samre. Restorers using anastylosis - a restoration process of dismantling, reassembling and replacing vital lost pieces - has brought out the beauty of Banteay Samrey; it is not the most popular temple in Angkor, which is a shame because it is an exquisite example of Khmer art with temples pediments and lintels decorated with very intricate, beautiful, and well-preserved carvings. In the forefront, left, is a Nāga, the sacred name of a mythical serpent in Southeast Asian, and considered to be the bridge connecting the human world and heaven together. Probably being a bit off the beaten track it discourages some visitors. I was so lucky that my driver advised that I spend a few hours there.
Mirror Lake is a nice stop when you hike to Agnes Lake, Banff National Park. It is very popular and you will be hiking with many people. Do not let this discourage you. The sights on this trail are worth it. This is the time for contemplation! There is a tea house at the top, by Agnes lake awaiting you and ready to serve wonderful apple crumble cakes!!!

Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Eurasian Siskin [Spinus spinus] m.
Dozens of siskins in the garden, at the moment. This one decided to have a wee rest on the branch of a Rose Bush before rejoining the fray at the feeders.
There are dozens of these tiny siskins in the garden, at the moment. And what a racket they make! Of all the other little birds, these wee guys are most definitely the loudest. The feisty little birds dislodge many bigger birds from the feeders and discourage others from landing near them using their uproarious, piercing calls. Of course, this is all bluster and posturing for the benefit of the females. I’m looking forward to seeing many, many baby siskins in the garden, before long. Noise, then, will be well worth it.

Bit of a heavy start, but don’t let that discourage you. It’s moderate however the way back is much easier. The beach is amazing, we got to rest and enjoy the view.

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !
Today is a blue day at Color my world Daily and the theme at Looking close on Friday is curves.
Curves are everywhere and it is a very well know fact. But behind each curve there might be another one. Don’t get discourage if the road ahead is curvy… Eventually you will get to the end… it might get a little bit longer due to a greater amount of curves but don’t give up ! And what is more worth seeing and exploring than a panoramic, curvy road while bike riding ? Nothing, in my opinion !
See you later !! Mucho, mucho amor for you all !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!!

The Barn Swallow is the most widespread species of swallow in the world. They feed on the wing, snagging insects from just above the ground or water to heights of 100 feet or more. They fly with fluid wingbeats in bursts of straight flight, rarely gliding, and can execute quick, tight turns and dives. When aquatic insects hatch, Barn Swallows may join other swallow species in mixed foraging flocks.

To my disappointment, driving on the salt flats is allowed. In the spring it is highly discouraged. If there is a wet spring, a small layer of water will cover large portions of the salt flats. Some idiots will drive over the moist salt and forever change the landscape.
I used some of those tire marks in my composition.

Il pense peut-être m’effrayer, me décourager, me faire fuir?

The wind howls of pleasure of lifting the snow and make it spin in all directions
And to project its iced crystals on my frozen face.
It may be thinking that this will scare me, discourage me, and make me run?
It may be hoping to throw me into the long winter spleen?
It does not know that in me is a magnificent orange sky
And that in January the orange skies are the most beautiful.

Five days in Hong Kong and not a single day of sunshine - a typhoon went west of the island, but we caught heavy daily rains. This location is a 20-minute walk from any, and I was soaked to my core. 5 minutes after this shot and the clouds lowered even more, and the city view was lost entirely.
But I was not discouraged from shooting - still many good shots captured.
Hello my amazing Flickr friends !!
Today is an orange day at Color my World Daily and the theme at Crazy Tuesday is a spiral. And of course, we have Mr. teddy bear with us to celebrate Happy Teddy Bear Tuesdays. So it is a triple challenge day for sure !
Mr. Teddy Bear knows that life is a spiral and sometimes you have to double your effort to get to the top… But then, once there, you may slide very easily and find yourself at the bottom very fast. And then, you will have to climb, once again, that life spiral to get to the top. Mr. Teddy Bear is very patient and starting over doesn’t not scare him at all… Sometimes, but it is very rare, he may get discouraged but usually after a glass (or two , for bigger problems) of gin and tonic he will jump back on the wagon and start over. So that is the message from Mr.Teddy Bear : dont get discourage, keep going and climb that spiral of yours today ! And if you slide back down, just start over and eventually you will find yourself at the top !
Between you and me: that is the perfect message concerning my diet.
So I see you later my friends !! Have a beautiful day and I hope you like my orange picture !!
Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and healthy!! And see you soon on Flickr !!
Cascade Ponds offer a very beautiful place for a walk, quiet and peaceful place. The views on every direction had their unique beauties with Canadian Rocky as a backdrop. Went there with friends two years ago. It was nice and enjoyable place to linger… This photo brought lots of memories we spent time together… We planned to re-visit some of the places this fall, including helicopter lifting to Mount Assiniboine together… But friends discourage our travel due to longer hours on the airplane and virus… I hope not wasting the air tickets again in the fall…
I was getting very discouraged with Flickr a year ago and decided to do a test as I have never been explored. So (a bit cloack and dagger like) made a new account under a woman's name (Karina Novakova) and what do you know I got explored in about a week with the kind of shot that I had been shooting for ages under my real name. At that point I realised Flickr was not what I had expected. I still like Flickr and enjoy all your photos but it is quite disturbing tbh the way people can get explored.

Midjourney is all the rage these days. I have tried many of them.
It is true that there is a future here and infinite possibilities seem to be expanding.
But I am puzzled because the picture created by Midjourney AI and the picture I created in SL are so different. The simple impression is that the SL snapshot looks a bit cheap. It is enough to discourage me from creating.
I also felt it was still incomplete as a good tool.
Currently, no matter how brilliant the "spell" you cast, you can't deny that what lies ahead is a "Gacha" synthesized by an AI. However, the synthesis technology and unique flavor of Midjourney's work are sufficiently appealing to people, and it is very enjoyable. But I don't think I will be satisfied with Mid Journey for a long time to come, and I am already bored with it.
Anyway I think certainly, AI-created art will become a new category in addition to human-created art.
But no matter how great the Midjourney make their paintings, they are still very different from pure Art or human creativity. I feel that we must remember to continue the discussion of what art means to humans.
Good for you, you hurt everybody
Good for you, you hurt everyone
Good for you, you love nobody
Good for you, you owe no one
Leave your weapon on the table
Wrapped in burlap, barely able
Call a doctor, say a prayer
Choose a God you think is fair
'Cause my monsters are real, and they're trained how to kill
And there's no coming back and they just laugh at how I feel
And these monsters can fly, and they'll never say die
And there's no going back, if I get trapped I'll never heal
'Cause my monsters are real
Leave your weapon on the table
Wrapped in burlap, barely able
Don't get angry, don't discourage
Take a shot of liquid courage
Leave a light on if you're able
'Cause we both know you're unstable
Call a doctor, say a prayer
Choose a God you think is fair
'Cause my monsters are real, and they're trained how to kill
And there's no coming back and they just laugh at how I feel
And these monsters can fly, and they'll never say die
And there's no going back, if I get trapped I'll never heal
Yeah, my monsters are real

"Take a Greek temple, incorporate it entirely in a Christian building, to which are subsequently added the modifications and reconstruction of the building for Christian worship used by the Normans, among others, the facade demolished by the great earthquake of 1693. Without discouraging you you get back to work and, changing completely direction, replace the old facade with a delightful baroque composition from around 1728-54. And everything, deteriorated as it is, continues to live and smile, spreading its image throughout the world as if it had been designed by a Leonardo or a Michelangelo "»
(Lawrence Durrell speaks of the Cathedral of Syracuse)
The Cathedral of the Nativity of Maria Santissima rises on the elevated part of the island of Ortigia, incorporating what was the main Doric style sacred temple of the polis of Syrakousai, dedicated to Athena (Minerva) and converted into a church with the advent of Christianity.
Considered the most important church in the city of Syracuse, it has become part of the assets protected by UNESCO as a world heritage site. Its style is mainly baroque and rococo on the outside, while inside it alternates parts dating back to the Siceliot era, since they belong to the Greek temple and parts dating back to the medieval era, built by the Normans and thus left to the present day. Its internal structure is composed of several naves and chapels, which have a classic and decorated style, typical of the Baroque too.
Of great religious significance, it houses statues, relics and remains of saints, martyrs and noblemen from Syracuse. Its furnishings have seen the succession of artists from many parts of Italy and from abroad. Always a symbol of Syracusan religiosity, the cathedral went through the various historical and cultural phases of the city.

Bretagne...
Zo tof!!!!!!
Brittany...
As you may notice in the photo, unfortunately there are 2 cars parked in front of the house, which of course obscures the view.
A few years ago a discussion arose between the photographer and the residents because he had published the photo in a tourist magazine without permission. There was eventually a process that was won by the residents. Since then, no photo may be taken or published for commercial purposes. But apparently the residents were not satisfied with that. Now they always put 2 cars in front of the house to discourage or rather bully any photographers or hobby photographers like me.....
The cars are always there, the residents are elderly and no longer use them...
So cool!!!!!!

Joshua 1:9
“Sometimes, reaching out and taking someone's hand is the beginning of a journey.
At other times, it is allowing another to take yours.”
― Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration
At times we feel outnumbered in our attempts to improve the world—to brighten and beautify, to preserve and heal and do what’s best for humanity. Selfless efforts can start to feel beleaguering, discouraging, even pointless with so little support. It is at these times I remind myself that I would rather be the last Good Samaritan standing than to join the ranks of selfish multitudes creating misery.
We all need someone to reach out to occasionally and nowadays, we feel the need to be greater in times of distress, to find comfort, solace and happiness in the company of someone who we have known for a long time and get along with. That's the beauty of SL, a true 'unity in diversity' that we can connect with so many like-minded individuals who brighten our day up.

And make me smile with glee
Never never will I feel discouraged
'Cause our love's no mystery
Demonstrating love and affection
That you give so openly, yeah
I like the way you make me feel about you, baby
Want the whole wide world to see
Whoa whoa, you got the best of my love
Whoa whoa, you got the best of my love
Whoa whoa, you got the best of my love

You got to read between the lines
Don't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can
Make it through another day
Make it worth the price we pay
The Good Book says it's better to give than to receive
I do my best to do my part
Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve
I keep my magic in my heart
Keep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby
I am counting on you
You know what you've got to do
Fight the good fight every moment

Aruba lies on the continental shelf of South America, and is thus geologically considered to lie entirely in South America.
Aruba's northern coast is rocky and mostly formed by corral plateaus with many small sandy bay like openings called 'Bocas', Papiamento for mouths. The sea is rough and dark blue compared with the southern coastal areas and swimming here is discouraged. (Wikipedia)

What the town of Ypres was for the British, the Yzer was to the Belgians.
The Yzer is the only river in Belgium that flows into the North-Sea and the basin is surrounded by lowlands.
After several attacks by the German Army, known as the battle of the Yzer, there was fierce fighting for possesion of the Diksmuide-Nieuwpoort railway embankment.
However, the Belgian and French army managed to push back the German army further and further.
In the night of 29 to 30 october, the sea locks in the coastal town of Nieuwpoort were opened to ward off new attacks by the German army and during flood the entire vast polder was flooded. When the polder had turned into an immense and inaccessible expanse of water, the German army reached a stalemate.
The front on the Yzer was deadlocked and the German emporer left the Yser front discouraged, because he had not succeeded in capturing the sea ports of Nieuwpoort and Zeebrugge.
The armies dug into trenches and bombarded each other constantly, gaining not any meter ground.
The cities of Ramskapelle, Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide were incessantly taken under heavy artillery fire and were thus shot to rubble.
Among other things, the German super gun "Langer Max" was used for this heavy bombings.
Everything in the battle of the Yzer shows also insanity and lack of strategic insight because it was abandantly clear that the seaports were not to be captured in any way!
40.000 Belgians and 15.000 French soldiers lost their lives on the Yzer front.
What we see in the picture is a command post of a battery of howitsers of the Belgian army that was then in the middle of the indunation.
On the roof of the bunker lie the so-called "Vaderlanderkes", jute sacks filled with sand an clay that offered some protection against shell impacts.
It was an extremely comfortable hiding place at a good distance from the front with sleeping accomodation and electric supply, a luxury that the average front soldier could not claim....

"America is home to some strange and, sometimes, downright ludicrous traditions and practices. Having a flamingo (or 50) in your front yard is one such tradition, and enquiring minds would like to know what that is all about.
Truth be told, the meaning of this practice is somewhat subjective as it depends on what the owner would like it to represent. When plastic yard flamingos emerged in the 1950s, it was the climax of America’s post-WWII obsession with the graceful birds. Then, plastic flamingos were kitsch items, cheap décor that added a dash of fun to the garden.
Flamingos also represent Florida, a popular retiree destination. Individuals living the American dream (at least in the mid to late 20th century) intended to spend their golden years on the state’s sun-soaked beaches, surrounded by flocks of pink flamingos. These dreams of ultimate relaxation spread throughout the country, and plastic flamingos were identified as the easiest way to turn homes into “beach houses”.
Of course, no great success story is without detractors. The 1960s saw the first signs of anti-flamingo rhetoric, like “cultured” homeowners and social critics, lambasted lovers of cheap plastic garden ornaments. Cultural publications and other media tried, by all means, to discourage the public from the favored gnomes, idols, and birds.
The sentiment gained so much momentum that even Sears dropped the pink plastic flamingo from their catalog.
Pop culture has also played a significant role in the history of the lawn flamingo. One of the earliest depictions of the ornament was in John Water’s popular 1972 film Pink Flamingo’s although the movie was not about flamingos.
However, the film did help America fall in love with the ornament again, as they were celebrated ironically as a lowbrow icon.
The movie’s success spawned a radical readoption of the pink lawn flamingo as America’s unofficial bird. The ironic wave was in full swing, with flamingo (now a recognized design theme) at the heart of the momentum. Flamingos returned to every decorative item you can think of in the mid-70s and through to the 80s…vases, tablecloths, etc."

Stream near Fredvang and Ytresand beach on the Moskenesøya island in Lofoten archipelago, Norway.
This place is very photographed and it is quite easy to find it at the end of road Fv806. We arrived there with a horrible weather, very low sky and fine rain. This does not discourage me from doing some shots of this unique place in Lofoten.
butterflies of the genus Caligo are known for their huge eyespots, resembling the eyes of an owl. They are found in Central and South America, and Mexico, primarily in the rainforests. They are big butterflies, from 2.5 to 8 inches (65-200 mm).
They are not long-range fliers, going only a few feet at a time. Because of this, they are easy prey for birds. They usually fly at dusk, at a time when there are fewer predators about. Predators are further discouraged by the eyespots, which resemble lizards or other amphibians.

"Around us, life bursts with miracles--a glass of water, a ray of sunshine, a leaf, a caterpillar, a flower, laughter, raindrops. If you live in awareness, it is easy to see miracles everywhere. Each human being is a multiplicity of miracles.
Eyes that see thousands of colors, shapes, and forms; ears that hear a bee flying or a thunderclap; a brain that ponders a speck of dust as easily as the entire cosmos; a heart that beats in rhythm with the heartbeat of all beings.
When we are tired and feel discouraged by life's daily struggles, we may not notice these miracles, but they are always there."

Jiigatake (爺ヶ岳), Kashima Yari (鹿島槍ヶ岳), Goryuu (五竜岳), and Karamatsu (唐松岳) from left to right are seen across the rice terrace and old folk houses of Aoni (青鬼).
Each rice paddy is bounded by Aze, which is a low embankment constructed to keep the water. The fence with green tapes is installed to block the entry of visitors in the paddy area as Aze is not robust enough to allow a large number of people to walk on. It is a common sense for those living in rice growing areas in Japan but not all the visitors share this manner.
So many damages that caused water leakage from rice paddies, mostly by photographers who seek for a best angle for shooting the landscape, have been reported in the past, as a consequence of which villagers are known to be negative to tourism.
Another reason for their negative attitude may be caused by a lack of economic incentive; there is no tourist-oriented businesses or services in the community. Hence, increase of visitors is simply a nuisance for villagers.
Villagers in Aoni are too conservative? Another possible reason could be an inflexible regulation, or an operation of the regulation, of the government-designated conservation area; it is not confirmed but the regulation for the villagescape conservation may discourage villagers, or investors from the outside, to start tourism-related businesses, if considering the fact that other communities in Hakuba quickly adapted to tourism in 20th century.
It may be an interesting theme to study further.
After finishing the tour in the castle, I saw this scene. Must be very hard work for the rickshaw runner.
~~A pulled rickshaw (or ricksha, 力車, りきしゃ) is a mode of human-powered transport by which a runner draws a two-wheeled cart which seats one or two people.
In recent times the use of human-powered rickshaws has been discouraged or outlawed in many countries due to concern for the welfare of rickshaw workers.~~ - WiKi
