A four shot verto-pano. I tried to be more creative with my entries for the various categories of LPOTY 2023 (Landscape Photographer of the Year) this year. I managed to get two shortlisted last year so this year I thought I would give it another go. Didn't do me any good though! All rejected. Anyone else more successful? I came to the conclusion I was wasting my time (and money). Will anyone see the beauty of such a shot as above, or is being uncreative and unimaginative all part of the "landscape" discipline?
If you haven't seen this before it's the extrordinary effect of the black grit being washed down from Ardnamurchan's surrounding volcanic mountains in streams that cross the white seashell sand of Fascadale Bay. Tide, waves, wind and gravity create fascinating patterns and shapes where they mix the dark and light sand and grit.
The recovery of our original “innocence”6 requires a way back home, a spiritual discipline that interrupts our habitual ways of thinking and cultivates an awareness of who we already are in God and in one another, our kinship with all things in the “hidden ground of Love.”7 The key to this epiphany of human life as the life story of God, says Merton, is love, the highest expression of spirituality and freedom.
Love “is the work not of states, not of organizations, not of institutions, but of persons.”8 The love of God springs forth again and again, like a mustard seed, from the most hidden and unpromising places, indeed, sometimes from the darkest and most painful of human realities. As the Canadian singer Leonard Cohen puts it, it is very often through the cracks in the vessel, the terribly broken places in our lives, that the light can break in.

Am I
Am I still tough enough?
Feels like I'm wearing down (down down down down)
Is my viciousness losing ground (ground ground ground ground)
Am I taking too much?
Did I cross the line? (line line)
I need my role in this
Very clearly defined
I need your discipline
I need your help
I need your discipline
You know once I start I cannot help myself
Now it's starting up
Feels like I'm losing touch
Nothing matters to me
Nothing matters as much
I see you left a mark
Up and down the skin (skin skin)
I don't know where I end
Or where you begin
I need your discipline
I need your help
I need your discipline
You know once I start I cannot help myself
I cannot stop myself
Once I start I cannot stop myself
And you know
Once I start I cannot stop myself
And you know
Once I…

The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the King of Spain; However, the royal family does not live there, but rather in the Zarzuela Palace, which is why it is used for state ceremonies and solemn events.
With an area of 135,000 m² and 3,418 rooms (almost double that of Buckingham Palace or the Palace of Versailles, it is the largest royal palace in Western Europe and one of the largest in the world. It houses a valuable historical heritage- artistic, highlighting the set of musical instruments known as the Stradivarius Palatinos, and very relevant collections of other disciplines such as painting, sculpture and tapestry. The State rooms and artistic ,collections are open to visits as long as there are no official events.
The palace was built by order of King Philip V, on the site left by the Royal Alcázar, almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1734. Both the foundations of the old fortress and some of its structures were used for the construction of the new palace. The fire episode served to justify the replacement of the old building with a palace in accordance with the taste of the time. Its construction began in 1738, according to plans by the architect Filippo Juvara, who proposed a larger palace, but in a different location. When Juvara died, the project was entrusted to his disciple Juan Bautista Sachetti, who was required to adapt Juvara's plans to the site of the old Alcázar. Other distinguished Spanish architects such as Ventura Rodríguez participated and were trained in the quarry of the new palace; the configuration of the Royal Chapel is due to him. Francesco Sabatini was in charge of the completion of the building, as well as secondary renovation, expansion and decoration works. Charles III was the first monarch to continuously inhabit the palace.

This adult Coot was diving and getting food for two chicks. For whatever reason, it took after one of the chicks, grabbed its head and gave is a sharp shake. The chick was released immediately and appeared none the worse for the experience. I can only guess the adult was making a point about dining etiquette or something.
in the quiet of winter, the vineyard at pollenca rests. the bare vines line up in disciplined rows, stretching towards the steadfast tramuntana mountains that stand guard in the distance. the starkness of the leafless vines against the soil speaks of the season's restful pause, a time for rejuvenation before the burst of new life. the silhouette of wooden stakes and wire frames cast a graphic pattern upon the land, a natural grid that waits patiently for the return of spring. this monochromatic landscape, with its subtle textures and the promise of growth, captures the serene beauty of the dormant season, a tranquil prelude to the abundance that follows.

Patience....Control.....Discipline. Her Mistress' words echoed through her head as the burn in her body flared.....ebbed and flowed. The room was silent save for the soft guttering of the candles off the end of the bed, the ticking of an old, antique clock and the loud, echoing click of her Mistress' heels as she paced the room, instructing her girl.
"Patience Little One.......Control your needs, wants and desires.....Discipline yourself without the need of me to do it for you."
She bit her lip and whimpered, "Yes, Mistress."
"Master yourself and you will be rewarded, Little One...."
"Yes MIstress," the words spilled form her....the thought of her reward sending a shiver through her core.....her voice dripping with lust. She didn't turn her head to look at her Mistress, knowing that her voice had betrayed her....shown her Mistress that she wasn't yet ready to be rewarded......though something else deep inside her flared nearly as hot, reveling in the lesson.....wanting more.....

For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
Hebrews 12:11
In Kyiv-Mohyla Academy of those days they taught a wide variety of disciplines. Mathematics was a part of them and it included a bunch of subjects: algebra, geometry, optics, dioptrics, physics, hydrostatics, hydraulics, architecture, mechanics and mathematical chronology.
In the XVIIIth century it was Pier Brulion who taught mathematics in Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. He was the French who arrived in Kyiv with the purpose of teaching children French but turned out to be a talented math teacher. Unfortunately, we know very little about that teacher but we can say for sure that he did not lack creativity. Who else could display one of the study aids for mathematics in the courtyard of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and another one right on the central market-place of the city? That's right, in Kyiv there are two sundials designed by Pier Brulion: the second one adorns the pillars of the rotunda over the Fountain of Samson on Kontraktova Square.
