In memoriam Marc Cornelissen and Philip de Roo.
About ten days ago, two Dutch polar explores disappeared in the Northern Canada, in the arctic region. They were exploring the thickness of the ice.
Earlier appeared in the paper Trouw an interview with one of them.
Both the drowning and this interview touched me deeply in a complete unexpected way.
In this interview is sounding through a high degree of passion and engagement for both men and nature
On the photo polar flowers which I photographed on Spitsbergen / Svalbard.

This office & archives building is important in more than one respect. Here's an article in Dutch that describes how the LDS archives have been offering local archives (also in NL) to digitize all their birth, marriage and death certificates. However widely welcomed, this effort caused upheaval when it became clear that the LDS church uses these data to posthumously baptize these citizens so to increase their database of 'followers'...

Conveyor's main image is draggable. Here, I'm using a touch screen to manipulate it. Museums will use touchscreens to deliver what they've made in Conveyor.

Waarom waren er ineens zoveel fotografen??
En tijdens de prijsuitreiking fotograferen ze niet de prijswinnaars maar de toeschouwers..???
Er schijnt een innige band te zijn tussen fotograaf en koninklijke familie die al enige jaren terug gaat (zie hieronder)
Er is vanaf 2008 inmenging van de RVD in het publiceren van foto's van de familie in de privesfeer gemaakt.
Ik kan gezien de activiteiten op het "veld" het standpunt wel gegrijpen. Je gaat met je dochters op een leuk uitjes, paarden kijken en kan nergens gaan en staan zonder dat er een fotograaf achter je aan rent. Aan de andere kant leken de meiden er niet (meer) van onder de indruk.

Edwin Smulders is geboren te Eindhoven op 24 Augustus 1968.
Hij is indertijd door Jan Reker van PSV gescout toen hij al verschillende jaren voetbalde bij de jeugd van Dommelen(nu uitkomende in de 4e klasse KNVB) en heeft in totaal 7,5 jaar alle jeugdselecties doorlopen tot en met de landelijk jeugd en het C-team. In deze periode ging hij vaak met zijn vader mee die moest werken om naar zijn favoriete spelers van PSV te kijken en spelenderwijs te fotografen.
Toen zijn vader in 1986 zijn arm brak is hij vanaf zijn stageadres gehaald om hem te helpen. Zijn eerste "klus" was een trouwreportage van Joop van den Ende en een dag later de Televizier-ring. Wat in eerste instantie 6 a 7 weken zou duren is verlengd geworden tot op de dag van heden.
Daarna heeft hij veel succes gekend door veel mensen van het Koninklijk huis als eerste op de gevoelige plaat met hun nieuwe vriendin vast te leggen.
Zo maakte hij o.a. de eerste foto's van Prins Willem Alexander met Yolanda Adriaans en daarna met Emily Bremers. Enkele jaren later fotografeert hij in een koud New York de allereerste foto van Maxima en Prins Willem Alexander. Om deze foto te kunnen maken heeft hij vaak moeten reizen. Verder heeft hij ook de eerste foto's gemaakt van Prins Constantijn met Prinses Laurentien, Prins Friso met Mabel Wisse Smit, Prins Maurits met Prinses Marilene, Prins Bernhard Jr. met Annette Sekreve, Ruud Gullit met Estelle Cruyff en vele andere.
Volgens National Geographic behoort lijn 2 tot de 10 mooiste tramlijnen ter wereld.

Today was another lovely, sunny Spring day and everybody is happy and more beautiful. Maybe I should move to a country where the sun shines more than the regular 3 months a year that we get in the good old Netherlands...but then again, not living in Amsterdam is something that even my imagination can't handle, hehe :-P

This was the result of 121+ hours of nerding out writing HTML, CSS, JavaScript and drinking coffee. For the most part. Ironically I was creating a nice summer environment rather than enjoying the one outside in Calgary, in 2002.
The idea here was to have a time-sensitive environment which would change during the day; you would hear birds and woodpeckers in the day, and crickets and owls at night in addition to the light/dark theme. It would reflect the approximate time of day when loaded, and would shift over time as the day passed into night.
Also, you could throw rocks into the pond, with directional (and varying) sound effects. I had fun making a "squeaky" scroll wheel, a secret right-click easter egg and a few other sound-driven things.
I believe I found the pond stock photo via iStockPhoto (a rather small site at the time), and purchased it with credits earned from my own photos.
This was designed under IE 6, if I recall correctly, but it may work still under IE 9. This was one of the last projects I did that was still IE-specific, since I used a few filter transitions and things.

We had some Limited-Edition postcards and large prints of photos on display and they were very popular with the crowd, it was fun to see how people react to my wicked reflections in real life :)

A few animation and button updates to this experimental UI, shown here in "mystery meat navigation" mode.. Perhaps a small grid view with centered titles beneath may work well.
This is using SoundManager 2, a JS + Flash sound API.
This UI was inspired by Apple's preview feature in the iPhone's iTunes music store, also elsewhere on the web and other things like this watch.
