The title of the shot refers to Bog Junction which the Hog passes over in the area of Carlisle South.

I like the effect this photo may produce. It looks like countryside, but actually behind me there is a parking lot with 200 cars, and behind it, a very busy highway; to the right is the biggest office building area in Santiago, where I work. At least everyday I start and finish my working day with this image.

We depend on nature not only for our physical survival. We also need nature to show us the way home, the way out of the prison of our own minds. We got lost in doing, thinking, remembering, anticipating - lost in a maze of complexity and a world of problems. We have forgotten how to be - to be still, to be ourselves, to be where life is: Here and Now.
-- Eckhart Tolle

It’s like living in the nightmare, which have all the signs of nightmare but one or two. You’re pinch your elbow. You could feel it. You couldn’t wake up. So, it’s not the nightmare. But it definitely is. You know the feeling. And now all of us, trapped in this nightmare, are desperately need to stop it from within.
In Russia it’s worse because of living in it more than 20 years. And our lives turned into a nightmare little by little so as not to be noticed. Teeny-weeny little nightmarish element in the more or less normal life. More nightmare but partly acceptable one. Even more but we get used to it. Just a little bit more but we got Stockholm syndrome and our sensitivity dropped and severely damaged. After all we had the good old Europe to skip in emergency and every time when we needed just one more breath of fresh air, please. As well as all the beautiful world. We had our blessed inner emigration, we have the cosmopolitan circle of our own. We and the nightmare system barely noticed each other. That’s the very point. The system had nothing to do with our true real lives. Like the street crime, TNCs and sects. We had the biggest thing after our loves – our arts. Our tops of our semi-private worlds. And than – February 24th, the full-scale nightmare and not any comfortably numbness and Stockholm tricks and all other mean psychological manipulation which is those bread and high don't work anymore. Even the last vestige of all the system, the instinct for self-preservation, sometimes is ready to give up and now telling from its depths: “It depends”.

This Christmas bauble was hand beaded with sequins and pins by me. In usually make these baubles for others as gifts, but on occasion I make one or two baubles for myself. This is one such bauble.
The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 20th of December is "sequins", so I thought I would show you this special bauble I chose to make for myself. If you would like to see the other baubles I have made as gifts for friends over the years, you can find them in this album: www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/albums/72157649901152375/. I hope you like my choice of subject for this week's theme, and that it makes you smile!
As this is the last "Looking Close on Friday" before Christmas, I should just like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in the group a very happy Festive Season. May it be filled with happiness and joy for you all.
Each bauble I make is 15 centimetres in diameter and contain hundreds of sequins, varying in number depending upon the complexity of the pattern and the type of sequins I use. Most sequins in this bauble are 5mm in diameter, except the large star sequins which are 10mm, the sunburst sequins which are 12 mm and the small gold border sequins which are 2mm and very, very fiddly. The sunburst sequins are French and are known as "éclate de soleil" - "sunbursts". Depending upon the colour of the sequin, I will use either a gold or a silver pin to attach it to the bauble.
These baubles are smaller than some others I do, however because it is a complex pattern which starts from the inside and is worked outwards in ever larger circles, each bauble takes approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours per side.
It is however, a labour of love which I do to pass the time throughout the year.

Depending upon ticket sales, weekday variants of the Rio Grande Zephyr were often as few as four cars in length. Train No. 17 is stopped briefly in Provo, Utah the evening of April 22, 1976. You can discern a ghostly image of the train conductor at the steps of the first dome car. F9 5771’s headlight projects a large shadow of a nearly Union Pacific block signal on a grove of trees. Next stop, Utah’s Capital City.

Zoom in.
Liliane ROSATI
We can compare it to this rare stone,
Whose color depends on light effects,
Or to these statuettes sold at fairs,
Announcing, blue or pink, the weather forecast.
Its reflections sometimes have the white of innocence,
From an expanse of snow at sunrise,
Intact candor, which is proper to childhood,
Of the virginity of an awakening life.
Its glow can turn as dark as night,
Deep and dark, in moments of distress,
She is sometimes gray like a rainy day,
In times of loneliness, boredom and sadness.
It has from time to time the blue of the ocean,
Or of a cloudless sky, conducive to daydreams,
A calm, infinite, limpid and restful blue,
Like these few truces, offered by life.
It can turn red, with anger or blood,
Or red with passion, burning like embers.
It is tinged with an almost phosphorescent green,
When hope appears; let the doubts fall away.
It can shine rosy when romanticism is born,
Sparkle with the violet of delicacy,
Sparkle with yellow; imprint of selfishness,
Or blaze orange in moments of joy.
But what is this volatile-hued mystery?
Is it a play of light? Is it a chameleon?
No.
It is the heart of a woman with subtle nuances,
Whose color varies with the seasons.
Une femme est comme un arc-en-ciel... elle donne à la vie ses couleurs lumineuses. Bonne fête à vous toutes et merci de mettre autant d'éclat et de douceur dans nos vies.
A woman is like a rainbow... she gives life its luminous colors. Happy holliday to all of you and thank you for bringing so much brilliance and sweetness into our lives.

Seagulls vary in size and appearance depending on the species, but they generally have a white or light-colored body with gray or black wings. They have a strong, hooked beak, webbed feet, and long, slender wings that allow them to soar and glide effortlessly in the air. Seagulls have excellent vision and can spot food from a distance.
These birds are opportunistic feeders and have a diverse diet. They are known to eat a wide range of food, including fish, crustaceans, mollusks, insects, small mammals, birds, eggs, garbage, and even human food scraps. Seagulls are often seen scavenging for food in coastal areas, beaches, harbors, and garbage dumps.
Seagulls are social birds and typically gather in large flocks. They are known for their distinctive calls, which can range from loud screeches to softer cries. These calls serve various purposes, including communication within the flock, establishing territory, and warning of potential threats.
During the breeding season, seagulls form pairs and build nests on the ground or on cliffs. The nests are often simple depressions in the sand or grass, lined with vegetation or other materials. Female seagulls lay two to three eggs, which are incubated by both parents for about three to four weeks until they hatch.
Seagulls are highly adaptable and have successfully adapted to urban environments, taking advantage of human activities and food sources. However, their scavenging behavior can sometimes lead to conflicts with humans, such as stealing food from outdoor dining areas or creating messes near garbage bins.
Overall, seagulls are fascinating birds that have adapted to thrive in a variety of environments. They play an important role in marine ecosystems by controlling populations of small prey species and scavenging waste.
Love the wing position on this one. One of the cool things about short-eared owls is that they can range in colour like this bird from very dark to almost white. Generally speaking, the females are the darker birds and the males tend to be the lighter colored ones. It can be a real guessing game though depending on their location in the world and their environmental adaptation.
