"Water and air, the two essential fluids on which all life depends, have become global garbage cans." Jacques Cousteau.
Last August, on our trip to County Wexford, I decided to look for a route through some beautiful Irish forest that had a charming waterfall. This is how, after searching a lot on the internet, I found a place of great beauty, although not as well known as other trails in the country, so we came across very few people despite being Sunday. Walking through this peaceful forest, to the constant sound of the River Sow water, was a magnificent experience to add to our trip to Wexford.
Unfortunately, there was one very negative element to highlight on our trip. The news warned of the presence of high levels of contamination in the waters of several Wexford beaches due to spills whose origin was not mentioned, which is why bathing was discouraged. And what was our surprise, when we reached the Edenvale waterfall, we found exactly the same unpleasant brown foam that we saw on the coast. Luckily, this time I was wearing wellies and I didn't have to put my feet in the water to capture this photo, although I did have to do considerable editing work to remove foam and return the waterfall water to its white color should look.

It all depends how you look upon life
Doesn't it
You can have a bad time and even tho feel there is always something that is good in life
Finding them small golden nuggets is what I always have done
This attitude has helped me a lot when all feels like it's going just one way
Reflecting on my path that has been, is very interesting
All what has been has led me to where I am today
How can I not feel gratitude for all things that has happened, good and bad
It all leads me to you
I find it übercool
Depending on your age you may not recognize the man in this picture. He was Ronald Reagan most notably host of the TV series “General Electric Theater” and “Death Valley Days.” Reagan was also a B actor and played in the frankly unbelievable comedy “Bedtime for Bonzo.”
What makes this of interest is that Reagan an otherwise minor, second rate actor is a character in a series of alternate history books (a sub-genre of science fiction) written by Tootie Hurtledore in which--incredibly enough--Reagan is elected governor of California and then (an even bigger stretch) president of the United States! While this makes for an entertaining “what if” read it ignores the fact that Reagan had no background in politics, and that the people of the most powerful nation of the world would never elect a second rate actor and TV host to be their leader. Politics is a profession that requires years of experience, thoughtfulness, intelligence and a certain ability to communicate that Reagan never possessed. For my tastes I prefer my fictional reading to be more believable.

Narvik is the third-largest municipality in Nordland county, Norway by population. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Narvik.
Narvik is located on the shores of the Ofotfjorden.
The history of Narvik as a settlement began in the Bronze Age. Not very much is known about these people, but the Vikings lived in this area.
Narvik was developed as an all-year ice free port for the Swedish Kiruna and Gällivare iron mines. The history of modern Narvik begins in the 1870s, when the Swedish government began to understand the potential of the iron ore mines in Kiruna, Sweden. Obtaining iron ore from Kiruna had one significant problem in that there was no suitable Swedish port. The nearest Swedish port, Luleå, had limitations. It was covered with ice all winter, it is far from Kiruna, and it allows only medium-sized bulk freight vessels. Narvik offered a port which is ice-free thanks to the warm Gulf Stream, and is naturally large, allowing boats of virtually any size to anchor, up to 208 metres (682 ft) long and 27 metres (89 ft) deep. The Swedish company (Gällivarre Aktiebolag) built the Iron Ore Line (Malmbanan) to Riksgränsen on the Norway–Sweden border. The Norwegian Ofotbanen railway line connects Narvik to the Swedish border.
Swedish mining corporation LKAB still ships the majority of its ore from Narvik (a total 25 million tons a year). The corporation is still important in the area, both as an employer and landowner, although its influence is not as prominent now as it has been in previous years.
The port of Narvik proved to be strategically valuable in the early years of World War II and the town became a focal point of the Norwegian Campaign. In 1939, Germany's war industry depended upon iron ore mined in Kiruna and Malmberget in Sweden. During the summer season, this ore could be sent by cargo ship to Germany through the Baltic Sea via the Swedish port of Luleå on the Gulf of Bothnia. However, when the Gulf of Bothnia froze during the winter, more shipments of the ore needed to be transported through Narvik and, from there, down the west coast of Norway to Germany. The town of Narvik is linked by rail to Sweden, but not to any other towns in Norway. As a result, Narvik serves as a gateway to the ore fields of Sweden that cannot be easily reached from southern Norway via land. (Wikipedia)

Depending on how you perceive this image, there's an illusion going on that can shift back and forth.
In one view, the blue object appears to be a simple profile as seen straight on.
In the other view, the blue object appears to be a monolith as seen from the base looking straight up at the sky.

Mugger Crocodile
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka.
Handheld from a distance using a Sigma 150-500mm lens in the afternoon. Not Cropped at all.
Thanks to my good friend Pro Photographer, Clifford Murray who accompanied me to Yala just before it closed down for maintenance work.
FACTS
The mugger crocodile is found throughout the Indian subcontinent and the surrounding countries, including India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Two subspecies are endangered: the Iranian Crocodile - C. p. palustris and the Ceylon Mugger Crocodile or Sri Lanka Swamp Crocodile - C. p. kimbula. Mugger crocodiles are medium to large crocodiles depending on the subspecies and range in size from 5.9 to 13 feet. Females have been known to grow at a faster rate than males. Both endangered subspecies are greenish-olive in color with darker markings and can reach a body length of 13 feet.

There are two 'me's. Who you know will depend upon who you are.
Some will know the calm, orderly, precise me. The me that can correctly answer the question that has stumped the rest of the class as I walk in half an hour late. The me that spends all her spare time revising and never talks about how she feels.
Some will know the crazy, oddball me. The me that can laugh maniacally at a glove puppet and can run across the beach in a t-shirt down to my knees with my arms outstretched imagining that I can fly. The me that pirouettes like a tornado and never talks about how she feels.
Maybe you know one of me. A select few know both of me. Perhaps you know neither of me. I do not know who is luckier.
But nobody really knows me. Nobody knows the me under the tight braid. Nobody knows the me behind the windswept tangle.
I am unknown and unknowable.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to post today. There is a file of finished images ready for posting so I pick and choose depending on what hits me on a particular day or if I have something to write about.
As soon as I scrolled past this one of Mennonites driving by power lines on the way home from church I thought it was appropriate to today. During the last 18 hours we’ve been without internet, cable or wifi in this area. For people who have to work via the internet it can be a disaster. Not so much for me, in spite of the fact it feels like I’ve lost a functioning lung. I just worked on more pictures since the editing queue is about a mile long.
So when I think of Old Order Mennonites who live without a number of modern ammenities I have to admit I’m impressed. At least I think I am.
When I’ve read about their customs it seems Mennonites who practice their life according to the old order not only do not have cars but often don’t have electricity or if they do they’re limited as to what types of things it can be used for. They are generally allowed to have one telephone now but they definitely do not have computers or television.
What I do find impressive is the idea of life without the distractions of the ‘screen’. For different people it could mean different things—more books read, more physical work accomplished, more face-to-face socializing and other things I’m sure.
On the other hand, it can be isolating to be cut off from communications and also insular in terms of thought and opinion. We presently have the world of education available to us without even having to dig through ancient tomes at a physical library or we can read obscure papers from regions all around the world.
No question that there are plenty of negatives attached to the internet but there certainly are massive positives as well.
Does the lifestyle work for Old Order Mennonites? Clearly, it does for many. Others leave the order when they become adults to join the ‘modern’ world. Meanwhile, I continue to photograph their comings and goings when I can.

We tend to celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied ad multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. These passions, like great winds, have blown us across the globe in search of the one and we do understand the one we do look for might be this picture right here for someone else out there.

Lake Michigan's appearance depends upon winds. On a calm day, the lake is as flat as a tabletop. Strong winds from the north or south make it look like an ocean with a pounding surf. Sheboygan, Wisconsin juts out into Lake Michigan and often is faced with strong winds. We have a small but active surfing community as a result.
Yesterday we were hit by gale winds which gusted to over 40 m.p.h. at times and produced waves that were 10-18 feet high. More of the same is predicted for today, though the winds aren't supposed to be quite as fierce.
Lake Michigan rocks!

Sometimes I don't sleep at night
I depend on the morning light to help me through my pain
When the birds sing their song I know the sun will be right along to
lighten up all of my dreams
Like a child in her mother's arms looking up to see
... its the morning light
enlightens us and makes us all whole
like the tide and the ocean shore
wash our worries away
Chorus
Let the light shine down
set your soul and body free
Let the morning light shine down
the morning light shine all around
set your heart and spirit free

Dependent on the period, but also the terroir, the grape variety, when the grape matures in sugar and acidity, it is picked up. This period is called the harvest. This period varies from July to October, although for late harvests, the grapes are allowed to reach maturity, leaving to dry on the vine. These are usually grapes for soft wines, such as Alsace, Jurançon, Gaillac etc .... My bunch destined for other wines, it will not be picked up, arriving late after the initial harvest.

The answer depends upon whether you're British or Amereican. This classic 1958-61 British Austin Healy Sprite sports car produced was affectionalely known as Frogeye in the UK and Bugeye in the US.
Either frogeye or bugeye, the Sprite's expressive face is apt to bring a smile to your face, as it did mine.

By the way, the long time owner is reflected in the chrome explaining the history of the Sprite to an interested attendee. Did you spot that detail?
