This reconditioned 1965 Ford F-700 rescue fire truck is a fitting tribute for years of good and faithful service to the community. Born from the bustling factories of the Ford Motor Company, the F-700 was designed to meet the rising demands of a rapidly growing economy, offering businesses a dependable workhorse that could handle almost anything thrown its way. Sometimes the most extraordinary vehicles are those that do ordinary things extraordinarily well.
March marked 10 years since I upgraded my ride from a dependable little Toyota Corolla to this Nissan Xterra which could take me to places the little Corolla couldn't imagine. It helped propel my photography forward, and has been a loved travel companion since day one. To mark the occasion I visited a very windy Death Valley National Park, where I explored canyons the previous car could never reach. Weary of other people during this time, I camped in the backcountry where to my surprise there was very little wind compared to elsewhere in the park. I shot this 64 minute shot of the star trails above me in the Xterra with eight eight-minute exposures during one of which I held still. I couldn't be happier with the places this ride takes me and look forward to many more adventures ahead.
Get to know Sora Ishii!
Sora, oh, Sora! A clumsy crybaby who weirdly doesn't gain any weight no matter what she stuffs her face with. She loves to shop online and stare at FRUiTS magazine catalogs. (That's where she gets most of her fashion inspo!) Much like me she's not good at keeping her grades up and being responsible but she's a dependable friend which is probably what Miles likes about her. P.S. Never get between her and a plate of sweets, it won't be pretty.
Here's a song that she would like! 🎶: www.youtube.com/watch?v=kl-dHrVlqW4
My model flaked and so I asked my dependable friend/model, Brittni to fill in since she was supposed to do the make up. I adore Brittni. I can photograph her all day long.

Heaton Custom Runabout
Ted Davis, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
The 734 Speedster was designed to be a high-performance,
robust iteration of the Packard-a driver's car. Built on
the shortened Deluxe Eight wheelbase, the Speedster was
rigid and dependable. Only 113 cars were built across
all body styles and this lovely example is rendered even
more rare by its unusual genesis. The Heaton Packard
was a 1930 Model 734 a with a custom body, finished in
1932 by J. L. Heaton, owner of the Packard dealership in
Terre Haute, Indiana. Heaton's friend Ed Macauley, son
of James Alvan Macauley, the president of Packard, was
building a Speedster appropriately named the "Macauley,"
and Heaton emulated his friend's design. Facilitated by the
Packard Experimental Department, Heaton incorporated
various nonproduction items into his Speedster, such
as chrome-plated 18" wheels, also used on the Twin-Six
Prototype seven-passenger sedan. The finished product
a was, according to a period photograph and caption, capable
of 117 mph, and as is evidenced here, is a unique and
resplendent example of the Packard Speedster.

♥ You're a dependable source of comfort;
You're my cushion when I fall.
You help in times of trouble;
You support me whenever I call.
I love you more than I can express;
You have my total respect.
If I had my choice of mothers,
You'd be the one I'd select!

SHOSHONE:
“In the Tetons, two bull moose seem to get all of the attention: Hoback and Shoshone. There are several other majestic bulls, but over the past couple of years, the dynamic duo has become the stars of the show. Both are stunningly large and relatively “dependable” subjects. There are times, especially early and late in the season, when you might see them together, as they share much of the same territory. Over a period of three or four years of photographing them, I can suggest they enjoy each other’s company. During the heat of the rut, however, they can become mortal enemies!” By Mike R. Jackson www.bestofthetetons.com
Moose of Grand Teton
Moose are the largest member of the deer family and love cold weather. They frequent marshy meadows and edges of lakes and streams. About 800 Moose inhabit the southern part of Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park and surrounding national forests. Moose are most heavily concentrated in Grand Teton Park.
To keep from sinking in mud while feeding, as the animal lowers its foot, a large dewclaw spreads to better support the weight. Similarly, the odd-looking crook of the hind leg allows a Moose to pull the leg straight up, more easily releasing it from deep, sucking mud.
Bull Moose lose their antlers anytime between December and March. Most of the Moose drop them in January. Immature bulls may not shed their antlers for the winter but retain them until the following spring. Female Moose do not have antlers.
A new set of antlers begin to grow the following spring, nourished by the covering of furry skin known as velvet. They take three to five months to develop fully – the velvet is then scraped and rubbed off against bushes and branches. The antlers are then ready for battle. Generally, each set of antlers will be larger than the one before.
Birds, carnivores, and rodents eat dropped antlers as they are full of protein and Moose themselves will eat antler velvet for the nutrients.
Take note—cow Moose with young can be particularly dangerous.

Day 51: Patience
I’ve heard Impatiens called ‘the poor man’s rhododendron’ which is not fair. It deserves more respect, even from me. I tend to take its dependable, happy flowers for granted. The darned thing grows like crazy and blooms every single day, unlike the real rhododendron next to it, that progresses very slowly and forgot to flower at all this spring. The Impatiens is eager to please and indestructible. I trimmed it last fall (to give the real rhododendron room to grow), and threw the cuttings into a bucket where they took root, ready and willing six month later, in case I ever need them. Meanwhile, the parent plant has filled in nicely everywhere I chopped it off. How on earth did this generous, forgiving flower get the name Impatiens?
After photographing the 2009 Patron GT3 Challenge and 2010 ALMS seasons for Werks II Motorsport, Alexander Bermudez retired his trusty camera, jumped in the seat of BSR #909 and started attacking every Porsche Owner’s Club event he could find.
In his first season, Alexander placed 3rd in the Performance Driving Series Championship. 2012 proved to be even more rewarding, with Alexander competing in both the PDS and TT Championships, winning 2nd and 3rd consecutively. Marty Mehterian’s coaching was paying big dividends and Alexander was awarded the 2012 Most Improved Driver of the Year Award.
The following year Alexander teamed up with Hergesheimer Motorsports and finally won the PDS Championship, that had been eluding him for the previous two years. In the end it came down to the very last weekend, where Alexander edged out Brian Green, the previous year’s champion for the number one spot on the podium.
With a freshly minted POC Race license in hand, Alexander focused solely on Cup Racing in 2014. His efforts won him second place behind Nathan Johnson in the BSR Championship and the Rookie of the Year Award.
In 2015 House Automotive joined Racers Edge Karting as a corporate sponsor and Bermudez was off the the races once again. By year end Alexander had won the BSR Championship and the much coveted POC Driver of the Year Award.

The world is mine as they say, but that's assuming there is an airport nearby to land on. With the trusty Piper Archer, it's dependable 180hp engine, IFR equipment, GPS, and 4 seats at my disposal and a cruise speed of 150mph, I can soar across roads, valleys, mountains, deserts in a single leap. Ok, ok maybe not non-stop but close enough.
Over the many decades of flying I have ferried and delivered dozens and dozens of aircraft safely across the breadth of the US. I can not tell you in a single picture or story the adventures and simple joy of seeing the earth unfold beneath me while flying at low altitude (1,000 ft) and not flying at 40,000 ft in today's commercial airlines. I have introduced many individuals to the joy of flying and as a certified flight instructor many of those people are flying today safely including some who now fly for major airlines.
And yes, I know this cockpit is considered primitive, full of steam or analog gauges instead of today's planes with their fancy digital or glass cockpit screens (would be nice though) with state of the art navigation systems. But I can fly this plane anytime and just about anywhere (40,000 feet is a bit beyond my reach) I want just by putting gas in it.
Anyone up for an adventure?

Nigella, also known as 'devil-in-a-bush' or 'love in a mist'.
Nigella damascena has been grown in English cottage gardens since Elizabethan times.
For many years 'Miss Jekyll' was the only widely available variety, and it is still popular for its dependable masses of sky-blue flowers.
“When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else.
Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.”
Georgia O'Keeffe quote (American Painter, 1887-1986)
A true blue or purple is not so common in the flower world and not easy to photograph well...

This has to be one of the most dependable spots on the planet to catch incredible sunrises and sunsets.
Lonely grain'vator on the Soo Line's prairie, between Minot and the Canadian border. I think there was another 'vator behind me. Traffic was sparse - four trains in the timetable - but they seemed to run on a dependable schedule. Welded rail and 40mph reigned supreme, but I think that there were yet some stretches of 90lb. rail between the border and Minneapolis.

When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well theyd be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when all the worlds asleep,
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Wont you please, please tell me what we’ve learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am…

A weatherbeaten ranger patrols the rugged 18th District of the Allsburg Wilderness on his dependable Outland Kestrel, one of the few speeders that can handle the extreme climates and terrains of the region.
I'll call this done now I suppose. I tried a few different, more detailed bases, but they seemed to take away from the speeder so I went with something fairly simple. I think I could have entered this speeder into any category, but decided upon Enforce. I envision this ranger has had a hard solitary life hunting down poachers, outlaws, and other undesirables in this rough country.
Overall, I enjoyed my digital building experience. Once I got used to the controls things went pretty smoothly and having full access to every part in every color is pretty sweet I have to admit. And no mess to clean up! I guess it is time to see what changes I'll have to make to build this in real life. Also, rendering in Mecabricks couldn't be easier. Rescan time takes us back to Alpena, MI, a great little city sitting on the shores of Lake Huron. Today, Alpena is home to the Lake States Railway, but in 1979 it belonged to the legendary Detroit & Mackinac. Known for its fleet of well kept Alcos, the D&M was a do-not-miss railroad for me when I ventured Up North for my first visit. Here we find RS2 481 headed south through town with an empty quarry train, which back then was a dependable source of traffic and revenue. I understand that the rock business is still operating today. At least I hope so for the Lake States' sake and its employees.

skittish : adjective
of an animal : easily frightened or excited
nervous or fearful about doing something
tending to change often : not dependable or stable
....think that about sums up these! There were about 30 of them, a mix of adults and fairly hefty youngsters...they'd run away from us as we approached...then run back...then away and so on...and with the prospect of 30 cows thundering towards us, we decided not to follow the footpath through their field, but then had to negotiate thick undergrowth, fallen trees and barbed wire fences to get round them....aaaagh!
