The pan-Hellenic sanctuary of Delphi, where the oracle of Apollo spoke, was the site of the omphalos, the 'navel of the world'.

Blending harmoniously with the superb landscape and charged with sacred meaning, Delphi in the 6th century B.C. was indeed the religious centre and symbol of unity of the ancient Greek world.

Der bekannteste Tempel in Delphi ist der Tempel des Apollon. Hier wurde das Orakel befragt. Heute sieht man davon natürlich nur noch die Grundmauern.

Delphi's Archaeological Museum contains a wealth of treasures excavated at the site of Ancient Delphi, just next door. Without a doubt, it is one of Greece's finest museums of classical art and antiquities. This photograph is of a marble statue of Antinous, the favourite of the Emperor Hadrian (130 to 138 AD).

Ancient Delphi's Theatre, where the Pythian Games and related festival of music and drama took place every four years. The theatre we see today dates from the 1st century AD and could seat 5,000 spectators. It replaced an earlier one, dating back to the 4th century BC.
