This is the deepest gorge in south-west England, and stretches a distance of about 2.5 km (1.5 miles) from the spectacular "Devil's Cauldron" whirlpool at the bridge end to the very fine 30-metres-tall "White Lady Waterfall" at the other end. There are excellent beautiful walks from one end of the Gorge to the other, alongside the River Lyd and on the winding upper path that gives a view steeply down into the Gorge through the very tall and slender trees that stretch upwards to find the light.
That is, runs thru the Hell's Canyon, deepest gorge in North America.
This is the view from the last dam in Idaho, the Hell's Canyon Dam. There are 17 dams creating hydroelectric power and providing irrigation that has turned arid lands into highly productive farmland. The Snake flows 1078 miles from it's source in Yellowstone and Teton Parks till it joins the Columbia river at Burbank WA.
A quote from Julie Andrews eloquently touches how I feel about this mighty river:
"Whenever I think of my birthplace, Weiser Idaho, my reference first and foremost is the river. I love the smell of the river; love its history, its gentleness. I was aware of its presence from my earliest years. Its majesty centered me, calmed me, was a solace to a certain extent."
However, Julie's river was the Thames river.
Hope your weekend is off to a great start!
It is one of my deepest beliefs that the animals we have the deepest bonds with in this life, have been with us before. Many times before, even. The ones, who, when they pass on, you Never get over them. We love all our animal friends but with some, the attachment runs so deep it is indescribable. When you see a photo of an animal that looks very similar to them, it is like a hammerblow to your heart. When you think of them, it is always with mixed emotions, joy that they shared your life for a time, but a deep longing and sadness that is like a vice around your heart. These, i firmly believe, are the ones who find us, lifetime after lifetime.

Taking those taking those losses
I wanna take you into the sunlight
If the world would only know what you've been holding back
Heart attacks every night
Oh you know it's not right
I'll follow you way down wherever you may go
I'll follow you way down to your deepest low
I'll always be around wherever life takes you
You know I'll follow you...

03-october-2021: this is the lowest/deepest area of the (ghost) Lake, a small zone where the main sinkholes/springs of this intermittent karstic lake are located, close together.
So it is, therefore, the last part of the Lake (except the artificially embanked one to save a part of the abundant fish fauna from increasingly long and frequent dry periods) to have water and the first to fill up when the aquifers are full after a period of consistent rain.
The absence of water starts from July 2021 and at the moment (28-October-2021), without intervals, it is still empty.
In the Karst area, this is one of the clearest visible effects of the change in the meteorological trend of the area, certainly linked to Global Warming.
In fact, it should be pointed out that the Lake Cerknica, although with variations in water level, in the past was present for most of the year (there have been many years in which it has always been present), often reaching the dimensions that make it, temporarily, the largest lake in the State, while the periods of emptying were very rare and short (from a few days to a maximum of 2-3 weeks), resulting, at least until the 1990s, the ONLY EXAMPLE in the World of fish adaptation to survive in the aquifers in complete darkness for even 15-20 days; the fish re-emerged, alive, when the rains returned, together with the water coming out of the sinkholes that become resurgences.
For about twenty years now, and more and more markedly year after year, the water disappears for ever longer times (now we are talking about months, not days or a couple of weeks) and with great frequency, even in the wettest seasons, such as spring and autumn, naturally fish fauna that ends up in the sinkholes today, dies.
Volunteers and foresters lend themselves to saving fish as much as possible, but those who manage to bring to the perennial part of the lake are a very small minority.
The problem of the decrease in the frequency of precipitation meant that the underlying aquifers had less and less water, so, today, for the water to re-emerge on the surface, greater amounts of precipitation are required and for longer times, while 40-50 days of dry weather are sufficient to empty the lake.

The Sognefjord or Sognefjorden is also known as "The King of the Fiords" as the largest and deepest fjord in Norway. Taken along E39 shortly after Oppedal-Lavik ferry crossing before Aven. Tranquillity and the clarity of the water was stunning. Sogn og Fjordane, Norway
Although this looks as if it might have been shot in the deepest darkest part of some remote exotic jungle, it was actually shot in a wood in North Lincolnshire, near to (the not so exotic) Scunthorpe!
The shafts of light bursting through the trees obviously caught my attention. It was only after I got the image on the computer that I noted that the light formed a vague heart shape.
I would have given you all of my heart
But there's someone who's torn it apart
And she's taken just all that I had
But if you want, I'll try to love again
Baby I'll try to love again, but I know
The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know, the first cut is the deepest
When it come to being lucky, she's cursed
When it come to loving me, she's worse
I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
And I'm sure gonna give you a try
And if you want, I'll try to love again
Baby I'll try to love again, but I know
The first cut is the deepest
Baby I know, the first cut is the deepest
But when it come to being lucky, she's cursed
When it come to loving me, she's worse
I still want you by my side

But I'm sure gonna give you a try
'Cause if you want, I'll try to love again

Tranquillity of the scene was stunning with only small ripples in light breeze at a distance. A 10-stopper did it its job well turning the scene into serene beauty. Sogn og Fjordane, Norway
The deepest wounds are not made by knives. They are made by words, lies, absences and falsehoods. They are wounds that cannot be seen on the skin, but that hurt, that bleed, because they are made of sad tears, those that are shed in private and in quiet bitterness...

There are a few things I particularly like about the middle of winter here. Firstly, and perhaps most obviously is how quiet it is down on the beach. Not a bucket and spade in sight. On days like this, especially when the tide is receding, you can take your time without fear of your sandscapes being blighted by all and sundry. The light is almost never harsh, and the golden hour arrives at a very agreeable time. You can be comfortably home for tea without your stomach beginning to complain of neglect. And on a Friday you can tie it in nicely with five a side at the local leisure centre, which kicks off at six on the dot. Plenty of time to shoot until darkness falls, before getting changed in the car and heading off to the game.
And there's another good thing about this time of year. Because not only can you shoot throughout the entire day, but the light often brings plenty of atmosphere, with soft diffused sunshine and a blue hour that glows for a surprising length of time. Today brought one of those unexpected afternoons when glorious post sunset pinks bounced off wet sand in the fading light, encircling the lighthouse in a colourful frame. Not for the first time in recent visits I'd chosen this spot beneath the lifeguard's hut, where the beach is trapped between the rocks to the east and the place where the Red River makes its final yards over cobbles on the sand and into the ocean to the west. Behind you a twenty metre high cliff wall, and before you the endless sea. It's a place where the tide likes to charge in between the rocks, rattling pebbles and wiping the sand clean as it goes. You can be standing on top of a rock and suddenly you'll be surrounded by water before it rushes back out with a furious swirl. It's quite a liberating experience, which is ironic considering your momentary imprisonment. Fine on an outgoing tide, but not really recommended at the opposite end of the cycle. Not unless you don't mind sitting in the darkness with your teeth chattering away for a few hours anyway.
I'm often torn when I come here in December. Spoiled for choice. The lighthouse is of course the obvious subject, but in the opposite direction, there's a permanent soft filmy cloud of spray hanging in the air as you gaze over the long sandy stretch that leads down to and beyond the Hayle estuary. When it catches the light, resistance is futile. You can sit on the dunes or head down to the beach below the Towans with the long lens and make merry with these perfect conditions. Get a gull or two racing low over the waves and you'll be a very happy clacker indeed. By the time darkness falls you haven't even really noticed that the lighthouse has been completely ignored again.
But of course it's not as if the lighthouse has been towed away. There isn't a big sign on the island saying “Don't bother pointing the camera this way because it's more interesting in the opposite direction. Come back in April!” The lighthouse is still here, waiting for the pilgrims to come and set their tripods before it in homage. And on this particular Friday afternoon, with the tide on the way out, it was the perfect time to shoot in both directions, to the East and West and out to sea as well. I used to be obsessed with separation, always wanting to isolate the lighthouse on the island and surround them with the sea. Not so much now though. This was a good time to keep on pushing; to see what else might work. It opens up a whole new world of possibilities here. And when the post sunset colours pour across the darkening sky from west to east and spread vivid reflections over the sand, well that helps a lot too. By the time I arrived back at the car, the night was almost black, but it was only a few minutes after five. Daylight is a precious commodity in deepest December. Finding moments like this make it all worthwhile.

Chand Baori in Abhaneri village in eastern Rajasthan, India, is one of the most overlooked landmarks in the country. It is one of the oldest stepwell in Rajasthan, and is considered to be among the biggest in the world. Chand Baori looks like anything but a well. This incredible square structure is 13 stories deep, and lined along the walls on three sides are double flight of steps. 3,500 narrow steps arranged in perfect symmetry descends to the bottom of the well 20 meters deep to a murky green puddle of water. Built during the 8th and 9th century by King Chanda of Nikumbha Dynasty, provided the surrounding areas with a dependable water source for centuries before modern water delivery systems were introduced. As the green water at the base attests, the well is no longer in use, but it makes for an interesting stop-over to an architecturally impressive structure that is over 1000 years old. There’s also a temple adjoining the well for visitors to explore.
Many thanks to all those who view, comment and or fave my photos....It is greatly appreciated ......Chandana
Description in English and Dutch:

A century ago, a very special find was made during dredging work in the beautiful city of Nijmegen. An original Roman mask has then been extracted from the deepest caverns of the historic river Waal. It is very special, because worldwide only 150 to 200 such combat masks have been found. The mask dates from the first century AD and was worn in real battles as well as in parades and tournaments. The mask was attached to the helmet with some kind of hinge. The appearance of the mask was also intended to instill great fear in the opponent. The Roman owner will undoubtedly have enjoyed it a lot then. The mask has been an absolute showpiece in the Valkhof museum in Nijmegen for quite some time now. After seeing the mask in the museum, the Nijmegen artist Andreas Hertfeld fell in love with it and it inspired him to make a mega-sized replica of it. After he was elected to create a public artwork for the municipality, he decided to start this mega project 'De Uitkijk'. He has worked for years at a shipyard on the art project, better known in Nijmegen as 'The Face of Nijmegen'. The costs for this municipal project eventually ended up at about 100000 euros! The imposing and extremely impressive work of art is located on the city island of Veur-Lent in Nijmegen along the river Waal. At the back of the public artwork you can climb to the eye holes via a staircase. Through the eye holes you can see the city of Nijmegen with a Roman view. The design of the 6 meter meter high (6.5 yards) and 4.5 meter (4.9 yards) wide Roman face mask sculpture is made from several pieces of steel. These steel pieces are then welded together. The sculpture has also a layer of polyester and a filling of polyurethane foam. It has become a real landmark of the oldest city of The Netherlands.

Lyrics:
I would have given you all of my heart
But there's someone who's torn it apart
And he's taking just all that I had
But if you want, I'll try to love again
Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know
The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know
The first cut is the deepest
But when it comes to being lucky, he's cursed
When it comes to lovin' me, he's worse
I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
And I'm sure gonna give you a try
If you want, I'll try to love again, try
Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know, oh
The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know
The first cut is the deepest
But when it comes to being lucky, he's cursed
When it comes to lovin' me, he's worse
I still want you by my side
Just to help me dry the tears that I've cried
But I'm sure gonna give you a try
'Cause if you want, I'll try to love again
(Try to love again, try to love again)
Baby, I'll try to love again, but I know, oh
The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know
The first cut is the deepest
But when it comes to being lucky, he's cursed
When it comes to lovin' me, he's worse, oh oh
The first cut is the deepest, baby, I know
The first cut is the deepest
Try to love again

On the lake of pure blue
That stretches wide in front of you
Is now found, beauty sweet
That your eyes, they do meet
Tempting you to fall within
Cover you in natural sin
Swim across the beautiful lake
At whose side, you do make
Love to the one, who fills your heart
From the day's final end to its very start
On the deepest, deepest blue
The light does shine, shine on you
Casting light on the lake
As sweet love it does make
To the waves, that you see
Dancing wildly, dancing free
As the light does shine on you
Looking across the lake of blue
Another shot from my trip down to the deepest depths of Cornwall on Thursday with Myles Pinkney Photography.
You can't get a more iconic Cornish view than Land's End. It's such a great area, if you ignore the tacky amusements that is. The walk around the coastal path is stunning and has lots of photographic potential, whatever side of the coast you're on.
Taken about an hour before sunset, I think this is one of my favourite photos I've taken this year. I really love the colour of the heather and water of the sea, mixed in with the drama of a setting sun on the left of the frame and a rainstorm hitting Sennen over on the right (if you look closely you can actually see the rain falling).
We had a rather nice rainbow behind us, but I was more interested in the drama that was going on in front of me. I may even get this shot printed and framed!! What do you guys think?

This is Bobby, my partner's and my little boy! I must admit to my shame I do not post up more of who I think is highly photogenic. We were out for a walk in Grunewald Forest, South-West of Berlin, when we came across this clearing, I got plenty of other photos which I'll post up over time, but I caught Bobby in this moment of what seems like deep thoughts and reflection. I trust everyone is well and off to a great start this week and so as always, thank you! :)

An endless effort, doomed to forever
Fall apart at the seams

Reduced to grazing swamps
Of vapid dreams and splendor

One of the deepest lakes in North America, Crater Lake has no streams or rivers which feed it. Rain and snowfall are the only sources of its water and the lake surface itself is located at approximately 6,100 feet above sea level. The park road around the rim of the lake varies in altitude from about seven to eight thousand feet. A real jewel in the National Park System of the USA.

True communication on the deepest level is more than a simple sharing of ideas, conceptual knowledge, or formulated truth. The kind of communication that is necessary at this level must also be “communion”: beyond the level of words, a communion in authentic experience which is shared not only on a “preverbal” level but also on a “postverbal” level. . . . And the deepest level of communication is not communication, but communion. It is wordless. It is beyond words, and it is beyond speech, and it is beyond concept.” (HGL x)
