Finally... here it is... this is my own personal favourite image from my recent photographic workshop in the Banff National Park... it's a seven-image panorama of Peyto Lake at sunset.

I remember this particular evening very well. We were undecided as to where the best place to shoot the sunset would be. Although Peyto Lake is not really an ideal location for sunsets... we were in the area... and the best alternative was a small mosquito-infested pond in the middle of a large marshy field. I voted for Peyto Lake... and so did most of the others! :)

By the time we arrived at the Peyto Lake car park... the place was deserted. That meant that we'd have the viewing platforms all to ourselves... with plenty of space to setup and shoot the best compositions without getting in everyone else's way! But while the view from either of the two platforms is pretty darn amazing... it's exactly the same view that you always see in photographs... offering very little opportunity for a unique composition.

Then someone suggested that we follow another footpath up the hill to get above the treeline... that would offer us a view of the lake that very few people get to see and photograph. "Yeah, that sounds great", I said... but which hill are you talking about!? All I could see behind me were huge, towering mountains!

We started hiking up the path as the sun moved behind the mountain peaks... damn... how long was the hike going to take, I wondered... would we make it before it got completely dark? After thirty minutes (or so) of huffing and puffing and sweating like a pig... I finally made it to the top of the "hill" that they were talking about.

Wow... what an incredible view... this was more spectacular than anything I'd ever seen before in my life... I simply had to shoot this as a panorama... and quickly... before the clouds lost their orange colour!

This is how I managed to capture the scene... it might not look very impressive here on Flickr... but it looks amazing when viewed on my huge LCD screen... and I bet it will look incredible when I have it printed and framed on my wall!

So... although I am totally besotted (in love) with this particular Peyto Lake panorama... I do also realise that not everyone will agree with my choice. If you feel that I have posted another image that appeals to you more than this one... I would LOVE to hear your opinion. Please DO take the time to browse my Banff 2011 Flickr set... and PLEASE tell me... which is YOUR favourite image?

I still have a couple of photos from my Banff trip which I feel are good enough to post… but I’ll be taking a short break from Flickr now… I’ll post those when I return in a week or two. :)

Have a great weekend everyone!!
