Port Dalhousie sits on the mouth of Twelve Mile Creek, and was the Lake Ontario terminus of the original Welland Canal( as well as the second canal). Although it is now home of a marina and large park and beach, it's history is still felt in the atmosphere.
When I went over to the basketball games on December 30th, a couple of people were creating the snowman. So on New Year's Eve, I brought my camera along to capture their work and what can be seen on a winter's evening in Halifax.

A portrait of the mountainside, pictured facing east toward Eel River Cove and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence. Again most of the trees in this area seemed to be of the birch or aspen variety.

OK, I realize I should have taken a picture of the springs themselves(!) The water is about 36 degrees in one pool (and 43 in the other!). In cool temperatures this is really nice as you can imagine. When the ambient temperature is 35, it's highly unpleasant! I'm remember feeling disgusting when I came out the water (not helped by all the flies crawling over my face). One of the Dutch girls Karin had to be helped as she fainted coming out! However, as we were camping there we all went in again when it was dark (and of course much cooler). Looking up at the stars made up for earlier ;-).
