Sometimes the general public will refer to these structures are lighthouses when they are actually the range lights. I think it is neat that the range lights are housed in a tower that looks like a lighthouse though. This one is on Lake Ontario.
I'm still catching up on a few images from a couple of weeks ago just to keep in my files. No doubt the boaters are eager to get their craft in the water.

Dalhousie Castle Falconry.
A calming hand and a reassuring voice helps to calm the falcon after it was frightened by something unseen.
Dalhousie Castle is an 800 year old castle located approximately 8 miles from Edinburgh and was the family castle of the Ramsay Clan.
Today the castle still retains its famous heritage of the sport of falconry which is contained within the grounds of the estate.
Unlike its predecessors the falconry is used for more peaceful and entertaining purposes by allowing visitors to get up close and personal with these magnificent birds of prey.
Highly trained falconers provide the visitor with a totally unique experience by displaying hawks, eagles, falcons and owls.
There are several packages on offer for visitors to select for this great experience.

Whilst returning this falcon to its roost following a display and flight demonstration to a group of visitors it was startled for an unknown reason.
The well trained handler quickly regained control and was able to settle this bird of prey quickly.

Sticking with the classic EMD streamliner theme here is today's IG post featuring what is arguably the finest looking business train on the rails today. This was taken five years ago, and is the only time I've seen this train on one of its rare forays from its home in Calgary to the far eastern reaches of the system.
The stunning Canadian Pacific business train running as symbol 040B-24 behind classic FP9s (ironically of CN heritage!) is heading east to Montreal and destined ultimately to Albany via the former D&H. They are passing the iconic preserved circa 1899 steam era water tower in the village of Dalhousie Mills, less than a half mile from the Ontario provincial border here at MP 41.6 on CPR's Winchester Subdivison mainline which was built in1887.

The Dalhousie Arch is regarded as the most distinctive landmark of Edzell village.
It was erected in 1887 to commemorate the deaths of the 13th Earl of Dalhousie and his wife, both of whom died on the same day (and not to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee of same year)
Every man should use his intellect, not as he uses his lamp in the study, only for his own seeing, but as the lighthouse uses its lamps, that those afar off on the seas may see the shining, and learn their way.

Having to find a plan B after SFG took a last minute day off, thanks to shortline's unpredictable kind of operation, I made the almost two hours drive to New-Brunswick beautiful east coast in order to capture Campbellton-based job 564, hoping to catch it on it's return trip over the scenic Newcastle subdivision.
A quick check at his workload for the day tells me they only need to make it down to Irvco that day, in order to satisfy the never ending appetite of the Chaleur Bay sawmill for center-beam railroad cars.
Rolling into's super elevated curve by the former connecting point between Newcastle and Dalhousie subdivision, CN L564 have 16 loads on the drawbar, all of them from Chaleur Bay sawmill in Belledune and bound for Campbellton yard.
The former Dalhousie subdivision, once extending 6.2 miles to Dalhousie, NB in order to serves the huge Abitibi-Bowater paper plant along with Dalhousie generating station, closed respectively in 2008 and 2012, can be seen disappearing into's thick forest at left.
Half a mile of the trackage are still in use to serve one remaining customer, just north of Dalhousie Jct.

Located near the Asian Civilisation Museum, the distinctive, needle-like form of the Dalhousie Obelisk makes it easy to spot from afar.
Built in February 1850, this monument was the island’s first public statue, and hearkens back to a time when the island was governed from Bengal, as part of the Straits Settlements. It marked Singapore’s second visit from Lord James Andrew, the Marquis of Dalhousie and Governor-General of India.
Lord James visit was closely watched, as it anticipated a change in local administration and the slashing of expenditure.
Designed by Government Surveyor John Turnbull Thomson, the Dalhousie Obelisk was built to remind merchants of the benefits of free trade.
Thought to be modelled after the famous Cleopatra’s Needle in London, the structure was completed by the end of 1850. See if you are able to spot the inscriptions in Jawi, Chinese, Tamil and English on each side.
Its four decorative pinnacle lamps make it a pretty spot for a quick selfie or photo opportunity in the historic Civic District.
Dalhousie Obelisk was first moved in the late 1880s following land reclamation work for the expansion of the Padang and the construction of New Esplanade Road.
In 1891, it was shifted again to its present location near Victoria Theatre.
Dalhousie is a hill station in Himachal Pradesh, established in 1854 by the British Empire in India as a summer retreat for its troops and bureaucrats.
It is built on and around five hills, Kathalagh, Potreyn, Terah, Bakrota and Bhangora. Located on the western edge of the Dhauladhar mountain range of the Himalayas, it is surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Dalhousie is situated between 6,000 and 9,000 feet (2,700 m) above sea level. Scottish and Victorian architecture is prevalent in the bungalows and churches in the town.

This Port Dalhousie Front Range Light was built in 1878. Port Dalhousie served as the Lake Ontario terminus for the Welland Canal from 1829, when the canal opened, until 1932 when the canal’s entrance was shifted roughly four kilometres to the east at Port Weller.
Chamba, the land of antiquity, art, and scenic beauty, is a wonder in itself for every tourist. Also known as Ravi valley is quite unexposed. But now the means of communication have made inroads into the interior parts of this valley.
Chamba’s serene beauty makes it the ideal holiday retreat. The land of mystic serenity, enchanting vistas, refreshing air, lofty mountain passes, and slopes, provides ample opportunities to nature lovers. The place and adjoining areas have an immense scope of leisure pursuits. The waters, hills, plateaus and the snowline, which can be sighted from any of the buildings and the main square, make a spectacle that can become an inspiration for many painters and poets.
