A 61 year old male was incidentally found to have a testicular "mass" on a routine physical examination. Ultrasound showed multiple cystic lesions. Radical orchiectomy was done. The specimen showed multiple, unilocular, thin-walled cysts filled with clear fluid. One cyst had organizing hematoma (dark brown area in the image). The cysts ranged in size from 0.2 cm to 1.1 cm and were present within the fibroconnective tissue of the tunica albuginea. They were lined by simple cuboidal epithelium with bland features. The testicular parenchyma was atrophic and showed no evidence of a neoplasm.

Cysts of tunica albuginea are usually an incidental finding in the fifth and sixth decades of life. At least some of these lesions arise from mesothelial inclusions in the tunica.

Wikipedia: The exact cause of the formation of ganglion cysts is still unknown. They are believed to be caused by overuse of a specific joint, which results in the degeneration of the surrounding fibrous tissue and the development of a cystic structure. The cyst contains clear fluid similar to synovial fluid. They are most often found around the wrist joint, especially at the scapho-lunate joint, which accounts for 80% of all ganglion cysts.

As many of you know from my photostream and 365, last September I was diagnosed with a Brachial Cleft Cyst, a benign cyst the size of a baseball growing in my neck.

The time had come to have it removed. As usual, nothing in my life occurs in an ordinary fashion as you will see in the following tale:

I woke up from surgery in my hospital room to what I swear was the sound of whooping. Then, "Dude, are you awake?"

"Yeah," I said, blearily taking in our room and determining that the voice came from behind the curtain dividing our room.

"My nutsack is swollen up the size of a grapefruit, you gotta see this."

The voice, it turned out, belonged to Bob, my roommate, a 38 year old unemployed towtruck driver and body modification aficionado. Tats, piercings, the whole 9 yards. Bob is also a dyed-in-the-wool, card carrying, 100% redneck. Bob also cannot turn off his inner monologue.

I liked Bob immediately. I decided that fact when I was jolted from sleep by the ringtone for his phone, a recording of a woman enacting a dramatic and fake orgasm. I complemented Bob on his creativity.

"I heard yours while you was sleepin'" he said. "Star Trek or something. You ain't never gonna get laid in here 'less you change that."

By the time I had arrived, Bob had been in the hospital 6 days awaiting surgery on his abused and horribly infected penile implant.

That was the start of three days of satisfying and horribly dysfunctional male bonding. Within five hours of waking up from surgery Bob and I were hanging out, eating contraband sushi, drinking beer and comparing horrible ex-wife stories. And I learned more than I ever wanted to know about penis implants.

4 am Wednesday I'm again awakened by Bob phone having an orgasm. I looked across the room and found the curtain pulled back. Telltale green monitor lights were reflecting off Bob's nipple piercings. "Don't you feel a little weird when that goes off and your mom calls?"

"Dude, this IS my mom." His grin flashed in the semi-dark as he chatted with his ma.

Bob was also a naturally helpful guy. He gave me the rundown on what was where, the closest vending machines, where to find the exit nearest the convenience store for more beer and where to find better food. He also helpfully gave his opinions on which nurses I should "tap", often while they were in the room. At one point he crowed, "He's kind of a geek but I know he can please a woman like you!"

The next day in a moment of terrified confusion I was nearly wheeled out by Vince, the bald fembot orderly, to have Bob's penis surgery.

On Thursday while waiting to be discharged Bob's doctor came in and gave Bob and his mom the news about Bob's surgery. He told Bob that he had reached the limit of penile implant repair technology. The plain truth of the matter is that Bob is hard on his equipment and needs to make a change.

"No shaving your genitals, no cock rings, no penis pumps, no blow up dolls, no masturbation and no sex for 3 months," said the doctor.

Bob's depression swept the room like a tsunami. "But Doc, I like to keep it clean down there and I gotta crack my stick at least four times a day!" Bob's mom looked concerned.

"Bob, I suggest that if you want to keep that you learn a little self control."

"I told him," Bob's mom chimed in, "I said Robert, if you don't leave that thing alone it's gonna fall off. Now you done it!"

Then, to my horror, I hear her say, "Steve, how'm I gonna keep Bob from beatin' off?"

This was a first. "Bob," I asked, "Do you remember Smokey the Bear?"

"Yeah," said Bob and mom at the same time.

"Only you can prevent your cock from falling off!" I intoned in my best deep, growly voice.

Eventually, after much handshaking and hand sanitizer I was collected by Vince, the orderly, for discharge. Vince is a short, Asian fellow, shaved bald a cue ball, has a voice like by third grade math teacher and is flamboyantly gay.

As we were waiting on the curb for my ex to pick me up, Vince was all fidgety. I asked him what's up?

"Girlfriend,' he piped,"are you okay from here on out?"

I allowed that I was.

"Great, I gotta see a guy a bout a horse." Either Vince was gambler or I'm not up on my gay lingo.

As I rode home with the ex-harpy, a nasty 6 inch incision in my neck with pain and numbness gnawing away at me i was hit with a stunning realization.

There's a lot of shit that's horribly wrong with my life. But in looking back at the last 3 days, it's a life that's uniquely mine. I mean I could have got an old guy with feet problems as a roommate. Instead I got yet another experience that I will keep with me my whole life. Weird shit abounds around me and I absolutely love it.

I realized that I love my life. Now give me the fucking vicodin.

Please remember Jackie today. Jackie lost her battle with Cystic Fibrosis eleven years ago today. Jackie was 24 years old. My life changed forever after Jackie died - I see things w/ a different view now. Consider yourself lucky and blessed if you met or knew Jackie - she was/is a beautiful little angel. Cystic Fibrosis is still quite the bastard and needs to be neutralized in a major way.

This 4.5-cm cyst had no specialized lining. I called it "benign cyst of undetermined histogenesis." I suspect it is of follicular origin.

The gross cyst had a thin wall lined by bland squamous epithelium giving rise to flaky, anucleate keratinaceous contents.

This is a classic example of cystic fibrosis associated bronchiectasis.

Gross appearance of the cut surface of the lung shows dilated (ectatic) bronchi, some of them filled with tenacious secretions. The dilatation of the bronchi and bronchioles is about 4 times the normal size and they can be seen beneath the pleural surface, In normal lungs bronchi cannot be seen at the lung periphery,

this is a scan of a print (i know, i scanned it the wrong way around) and it's not that easy to see in the first place - but the right sinus maxillaris contains a large cyst that is extending from one of 1-6's roots, most likely.

1-5 seems to be involved, as it became sensitive to cold things. i've got some facial pain / headache, but i'm hoping to cure that with a bit of cortisone and ibuprofene. sounds mad, and it's not a permanent solution. why dont you get surgery, you may ask. true. but i currently cannot afford to be sick and in pain for a few days - as i'd be after surgery for this - while i can be pain-free and okay with ibuprofen (i just feel an incredibly annoying pressure in my right cheek and eye). it's gonna have to do for about two more months. crap.

good note is, it currently doesnt seem to be badly inflamed or a danger for my right eye. you bet i'd undergo the surgery immediately if it was, no matter what the results would be for me and especially others (e.g. not being able to care for my sick friend)!

what would surgery be? cystectomy and root amputation. in other words: cutting the gums away, exposing the bone. then drilling through the skull from the oral cavity and into the sinus. then removing the cyst from the sinus through the incisions. then sawing off the tooth's roots. then putting / sewing it all back together. and most of all, if you want sedation or general anesthesia, it's not covered by health insurance. what the heck? for a simple gastroscopy that causes no pain but a mere gag reflex, i'd in theory get fucking i.v. midazolam, but for this surgery, i'd get nothing but local anesthesia with lidocaine? thank you very much. well, it makes more money that way, though, i suppose - at least for the hospital. i'd estimate 30% of patients have to go to the psychiatric ward for a day or two after that surgery, as they'd probably have a nerves breakdown. hooray for stupid laws!

I had a sebaceous cyst that became infected. I had to have it cut open, drained, and then this piece of gauze was shoved into the hole to keep the wound open while it healed. As I was changing my bandage, it was pulled out.

Cleto Reyes

Cleto Reyes Castro was born on April 26th 1920 in Mexico City, in the midst of the reconstruction period after 10 years of revolutionary struggle. Because of the hard times his family was facing, Cleto began to work at the age of 12 in a saddlery where baseball gear was manufactured. In 1936 while he attended elementary school, his huge love for boxing was born as the “Peralvillo Cozumel Arena”, was in front of his school. In 1938, Cleto Reyes participated in an amateur fight, his performance was so outstanding that the public ended up throwing coins into the ring floor; however, the pounding was so hard that he was convinced not to fight again. He chose, instead, to mend the gloves he had used during the fight and this was the beginning of his career in glove manufacture.

Subsequently his gloves obtained the approval of the local boxing commission (COMBOX DF), and in 1945 the Cleto Reyes gloves were used in a world championship fight for the first time on “La Condesa Arena”, in the fight between the second Mexican Champion, Juan Zurita Vs Ike Williams. This was a very relevant year in Don Cleto’s life since that was the year he decided to become independent, always counting on his wife and children’s support.

In 1965, he had his first commercial representative in Los Angeles, California; and began distributing his products in the most important cities of the United States and some other countries.

In 1970, during a time in which Don Cleto’s health was in delicate conditions, his son Alberto Reyes joined his father’s efforts with a strong entrepreneurial vision. In 1975 his son, decided to register CLETO REYES as a trademark, and founded Industria Reyes S.A. de C.V. in 1979.

Nowadays, Cleto Reyes products have a prominent place in the international market and are exported to five different continents with the approval of the main world organizations. The company has received important recognitions such as Mexico’s National Exports Award in 1994 (Granted annually by the Mexican Trade and Industry Department to distinguished Mexican Companies, and many others).

In the beginning the need, later a great passion for boxing, and finally his dedication to his job were the factors that inspired Don Cleto Reyes Castro to devote his life to boxing.

The soils and topography of southeast Missouri offer researchers a unique opportunity to study cotton and rice production and irrigation. Researchers also are evaluating better soybean cropping systems, and weed, insect and disease-control systems. Three locations make up Fisher Delta Research Center’s 1,078 acres in a 12-county area that forms the Missouri Bootheel. Scientists at the center have gained recognition for developing improved soybean varieties, especially those with soybean cyst nematode resistance and maintain a regional soil and plant-testing laboratory.

Potato cyst nematodes are invasive root-infesting pests of potatoes and tomatoes that are native to South America and widely distributed in potato-growing regions of Europe. Two types of potato cyst nematodes (PCN) have been detected in the United States—the pale cyst nematode, first identified in Idaho in 2006, and the golden nematode, first discovered in New York in 1941.

If PCN were to become established in the United States, they could potentially result in a loss of domestic or foreign markets for U.S. grown potatoes, an industry currently valued at $3.9 billion ($490 million in Idaho and $65.3 million in New York), resulting in significant market access interruptions. Current eradication, control, management and methods development programs for established populations in Idaho and New York cost approximately $14 million (APHIS contributes $9 million; state and research funds make up the remaining $5 million).
