A submission to "Sliders Sunday", where over-processing is encouraged. This is a re-working of an image of a halo, or ring around the sun, taken at Manly Beach (Sydney). The halo is real, the "twirl" courtesy of Photoshop.
we are in the middle of a cyclone, winds are 150 km per hour, gusting to 200 km per hour!!! It's appalling, I've had to be out in it seeing to the animals, particularly the horses which are very distressed. Took the camera out in a plastic bag but it still got wet.......Difficult to walk, rain feels like freezing needles!! I'm very surprised we still have power, thank goodness we do as I've been drenched to the skin several times today, with winds this strong the rain gets through your clothing no matter what coat you are wearing.........

A brief break in the midst of a long and volatile cyclone season at Aitutaki Lagoon, Cook Islands, Polynesia.
Clear shallow tidal waters and an emerald-green lagoon extend to white breaking waves on a coral reef fringe in the distant horizon as another cyclone system brews overhead.

I was happy to see the clouds break up as the sun went down. The forecast was for sun the next day, but I was having my doubts when I arrived to thick clouds surrounding the lake. Also, one of my more memorable mosquito experiences.
I got several of these Exo Force windscreens not long ago, and wanted to make a VTOL with one. I’ve also been trying to find a use for the dark tan windscreens and finally managed it! Like the Cave Carver, it is a donation to Creations for Charity.

Nervous time here in Australia, QLD is about to get the worst storm in recorded history tonight. A friend dear to my heart is in the direct hit zone. It's too late for her to get out, now is time to stay indoors.

A talk of closing down the amusement park of Coney Island :(((( !!! It would really be a shame to see the free spirit of people damaged!! Coney Island, as is now, is the jewel of Brooklyn, NY!!!
Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
Greatly enlarged by Cyclone Idai the now nearly waterless riverbeds of the Nhamadzi and Mussapa rivers scar their way through the landscape from the Reserva Nacional Chimanimani towards the coast.
It’s a photograph, Jim, but not as we know it...
This started out as one of a series of images I took in April for a Macro Monday theme Motion Blur. I put the camera on a rotating record deck and took images of decorative cocktail sticks which were like little witches brooms of colour tinsel. What immense fun that was!
If you want to find out more about the method I link to one of the previously published images which has the detail in the commentary. I’ll also link to the original image that is the starting point of this creation, and I’ll probably publish an interim stage view as well because it’s rather pretty :). See the first comment below.
Thank you for taking time to look! I really hope you enjoy the image even if manipulated works aren’t your preference :) Happy Sliders Sunday!
[See the interim shot commentary (linked below) for detail about most of the creative work. This was created from it in PS using the twirl distortion filter, by first increasing the canvas size by 60%. I then backfilled the transparent areas created after the twirl with black. Finally cropped to 4:6 aspect ratio.]
This is why we can't have nice things.
The Cyclone is a wooden roller coaster located at Lakeside Amusement Park in Lakeside, Colorado. Designed by Edward A. Vettel, the coaster opened in 1940. Following the closure of Blue Streak at Conneaut Lake Park, Cyclone is the last remaining roller coaster ever designed by Edward A. Vettel. Cyclone has been awarded the ACE Classic Coaster award, which is given to historical roller coasters by the American Coaster Enthusiasts.
Unfortunately, this iconic coaster hasn't run in 2 years, after a woman who, ignoring signs to keep arms and hands inside the ride, put her arms outside the ride and got injured. While the family-owned amusement park tries to figure out how to make this 84-year old 'safe' for 21st century riders who don't know how to read or follow instructions, the Cyclone sits sad and shuttered.

It's been too long since last posted something interesting...
So here is a WIP of a project I work on when I manage to find some free time these last weeks...
It's based on a design I posted almost 3 years ago.
