MARVEL X D&D: THE ARTIFICER
This is the first post of a series that explores what a number of fantastical Marvel characters would be if they were one of the 13 different classes of Dungeons and Dragons (5e). The first of these classes is the Artificer.
Doc Ock (Armorer)
While he lacks the full suit of armor, Doctor Otto Octavius is a prime example of a character whose ingenious nature led them to craft a mechanism that enhances the body's functionality. Not generally considered a hero, Doc Ock is a grim reminder that even those blessed with incredible intellect can fall prey to their own ambitions clouding ethics.

THE LICH'S LAIR.
Here we have my third entry into the #halloweenhabitats25 and #letsbuildhalloween2 challenges over on Instagram! Again, continuing the theme of undead D&D enemies, we have a lich in his lair. I tried multiple tile patterns before eventually settling on this one, attempting to convey the grandiose taste of a creature that pursues eternal life/undeath. If there's one thing liches have, it's a flair for the dramatic, right? Collected in the lich's lair, we see a bit of everything, including some of his favorite trinkets, one of his favorite spells, a lovely still-life from one of his favorite artists, his grimoire with his nastiest and most profane magic, and of course, the captured souls of many adventurers which he'll use to one day feed his phylactery! Clearly, he's brought some more with thim, however--I wonder where he'll find the space to store them? As always, for lore: read on!
In the world of D&D, liches are powerful spellcasters who have taken on the mission to learn and conduct dark, unholy rituals that tether their soul permanently to their body, even after death. While their spirits inhabit their bodies, the flesh and its innards continue to rot away, leaving the lich with a rather macabre visage. They often dress themselves in fineries, which convey the quality of enlightenment they tend to claim they've achieved in their abominable state of being. Liches undergo the process of trapping their souls within a vessel known as a phylactery, which they often keep heavily guarded, or even hidden and inconspicuous, to avoid being destroyed by self-righteous heroes. To destroy a lich's phylactery is to destroy its safety net of regenerating after its physical form is slain. Thus, it is left vulnerable, and capable of being extinguished. A lich will fight with all its might to avoid having its broader ambitions cut short by a setback such as being slain again, and will employ devastating magic and traps to deter intruders that would infiltrate its lair.

King Snake - Edmund Dorrance was an SAS operative working covert destabilization ops with the CIA in South America. In the island nation of Santa Prisca (whose government had been poised to fall), Dorrance fathered a child with a local rebel, but they went missing soon after the operation was blown. Dorrance escaped Santa Prisca and went into hiding with a group of drug-running mercenaries tied to the terroristic KOBRA cult, rising through their ranks and eventually seizing power for himself. Unbeknownst to him, Dorrance's partner and child survived in the notorious Santa Priscan prison known as The Pit, the child growing up to be the warlord Bane.
Doctor Aesop - This villain's surreal crime wave kicked off with the death of a transport executive who had failed to outrun a subway train with a heavy iron "shell" tied to his back. Each victim was linked in some way to the Gotham Transit Authority, and Batman unmasked Doctor Aesop as a man whose family had perished in a subway crash several years prior. His fable-themed crimes sought to teach moral lessons to those who had escaped punishment for their negligence.
Tally Man I - Raised in Gotham's impoverished Narrows, the child who became the Tally Man used a fireplace poker to kill the loan shark who'd been hounding his family. As an adult, he returned to Gotham as the Tally Man, a ruthless hired gun and a contortionist to rival only Central City's Ragdoll.
Two-Face - Harvey Dent was Gotham City's District Attorney and an early proponent of The Batman. He was a key player in prosecuting the Falcone and Maroni crime families following a year of bloody gang violence, and Dent nearly paid for this with his life. Scarred in a courtroom acid attack, Dent completely broke down and his split personality emerged. Harvey's "bad side" struck out at the remaining elements of Gotham's original mob scene, waging a bloody war that ended traditional organized crime in the city for good and heralding in the new era of costumed supervillains.
Ten-Eyed Man - The Ten-Eyed Man has claimed to be many things. None of these have ever been verified, and many of his records have mysteriously disappeared. His eyes can manifest anywhere they shouldn't be, although he seems to prefer them at the ends of his fingers. Just like his records, the Ten-Eyed Man has a tendency to vanish.
Maxie Zeus - Maximilian Zeus was a shipping magnate who believed himself to be the Greek god reincarnate. Gotham City was his "New Olympus", and in an attempt to seize power he used his shipping network to hijack a secret weather control programme developed by the DoD's Dr. Clyde Mardon. When this plan failed and he served a period of time in Arkham Asylum, Maxie recruited a group of naive young metahumans to form his "New Olympians" and attack the Olympic Games in Markovia. The Justice League had been prohibited from operating in the country at the time, so Batman activated the Outsiders programme to stop Maxie once more.
Here's my contribution to the 2023 Rogue Olympics. A Wing Mario made with exactly 101 parts. The theme was "Above the clouds"

A beautiful spy and her custom weapon...embellished with "pad printing" at home!
Intrigued? I'll post more (worse) pics of my DIY attempts at pad printing by hand, and explain more about it in another upload. Suffice it to say that it's not as easy as I hoped!
But I am pretty pleased with the way the figure is turning out. I hate Lego dresses, though I'd love to have her as a femme fatale in an evening gown. Alas, my closest torso pieces are a Leia bikini or a corseted castles princess, and those just didn't work. So for now she wears motorcycle gear and a fat diamond ring. Close enough!

My take on War Machine Mech Armor, set number 76277🔥
I just solved it's poseability issues, so basically this MOC is made for posing.
This figure has double-joints almost everywhere.
In terms of design this armor refers strongly to War Machine Mark 1, from the "Iron Man 2" movie.

Over the next few weeks I will be posting a new set of Gears of War customs that I've been working on. I've been a big fan of the games since GOW was first released and still play horde in GOW2 a couple times a week. Of course, Hazel's awesome custom armor and weapons really make it possible to do these sort of builds.
I've been slowly collecting a few of Hazel's GOW pieces for awhile now, so I figured it was time for me to get the paint out and incorporate my own ideas to kind of personalize the look of the items and create some unique characters. I know a lot of others have already done Gears customs over the past couple years - for me, better late than never I guess!
Let me know what you think as the series progresses.
