Super sweet! Fender skirts are from '57-'58 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser or are aftermarket copies thereof.
A crew laid out, masked and painted these flames over a weekend. The car was rolled out Sunday evening and headed for Wilmington's cruise strip, Avalon Blvd. Then general consensus among those who viewed it that night was that the spray can painters had been "loaded". In the sixties flames had fallen out of favor and the public wasn't ready for something this radical. In other words, the car was ahead of it's time because "Old School" was still a few years away. Nevertheless, it was an interesting and enjoyable exercise at the time. Thanks to Allen Duke for offering up his car!

When this photo was made in 1967 the "Six Four" was already popular lowrider choice. Paint here was by Joe Anderson.
