The genus Pan consists of two extant species: the common chimpanzee and the bonobo. Taxonomically, these two ape species are collectively termed panins; however, both species are more commonly referred to collectively using the generalized term chimpanzees, or chimps. Together with humans, gorillas, and orangutans they are part of the family Hominidae (the great apes, or hominids). Native to sub-Saharan Africa, common chimpanzees and bonobos are currently both found in the Congo jungle, while only the common chimpanzee is also found further north in West Africa. Both species are listed as endangered. Chimpanzees and bonobos are equally humanity's closest living relatives. As such, they are among the largest-brained and most intelligent primates: they use a variety of sophisticated tools and construct elaborate sleeping nests each night from branches and foliage. Their learning abilities have been extensively studied. 60741

M503 is back up to speed after hanging back at Woodland Jct, waiting on a motive power plagued L375 here at Milford. The local is finally in the clear and the C&EI towards Evansville is finally open for southbound movement again. Afternoons tend to be busy on this leg of the C&EI and this 1st of December is no different. I195, M500, L375, M503 and I129 all ran in daylight between Woodland Jct and Danville.

The Holy Rosary Church is a Roman Catholic church in Bangkok. It is located in Samphanthawong District, on the eastern bank of the Chao Phraya River. The history of the church dates to 1769, when a group of Portuguese Catholics resettled in the area after the fall of Ayutthaya; the current church building, in Gothic Revival style, was built in 1891–97 on the site of two previous structures. [Wikipedia]
The current church stands on the place where probably for centuries an older shrine had stood. You shouldn't trust legends fully, but often is true that where there's no fire, there's also no smoke. And the old legend attributes building of this church ancestor as well of the nearby Planina castle - to giants. Supposedly two brothers were building the two buildings, having only one big hammer. So, they were simply throwing it to each other, from one hill to another. Our ancestors often named indigenous people "ajdi" (plural). Those people remained from the ancient Roman empire, they had knowledge and were Christians. It's quite possible that some kind of a shrine stood on the hill already in the early middle ages. The more reliable documents say that the current church was erected in the 15th century and rebuilt into the present shape in the middle of the 18th century, partly also in the century after.
Migration is underway - - but certainly a little later this year due to our harsh winter - - many local ponds are still frozen. This is a picture from late March last year - - I had been shooting the migrating ducks for awhile already in local ponds - - currently Lake Ontario is one of the few games in town.
This is the confluence where the waters of Big Spring (a first magnitude spring, one of the largest in the world) meets the Current River. I got up early in the morning to get the mist over the spring water, which is about 58 degrees, year round.
I've learned to take everything someone says with a grain of salt. They will tell you what they want you to believe, but in reality the truth is usually in focus, they just forget that it's been shown. Have the courage to speak the truth, rather than avoiding the situation.....

Current home of the London Assembly:
"Examining decisions and actions to ensure promises to Londoners are delivered.
That is the job of the 25 London Assembly Members, who you elect at the same time as the Mayor. Eleven represent the whole capital and 14 are elected by constituencies. As the most powerful directly-elected politician in the UK, it is important the Mayor is held publicly and democratically accountable.
The Assembly has a Chair and Deputy Chair, who are each elected by Members for a one-year term in April."

The building opened in 2012 and was previously an exhibition centre for sustainable architecture, known as The Crystal. Built and opened by Siemens, it was the first building in the world to reach the highest sustainability award level (see LEED and BREEAM). It was bought by the GLA in 2019 for the docklands redevelopment project.
The building is situated next to the redeveloped Royal Victoria Dock in Canning Town.

Apologies for the multiple posts, I don't usually like to spam people's feeds but the mathematically sound will have worked out that there are not enough days left in the year for me to complete this challenge at my current posting rate of one per day..

Torre Jaume I is a 107-metre high steel truss tower in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, which was built in 1931 by Carlos Boigas. The tower is currently the fifth-tallest aerial lift pylon in the world, and is a part of the Port Vell Aerial Tramway from Torre Sant Sebastia to Montjuïc.
New England Central GP38 #3852 leads its train west across the bridge over Swan Creek on the very western edge of Saginaw, back in 2011. The Mid Michigan RR was using the 3852 on this day, which I've been told was one of the better units they'd get from the Huron & Eastern. 3852 became HESR 2027 after the G&W merger and left the property in 2017.

Broomhill railway station or Broomhill for Nethy Bridge railway station is a reconstructed railway station on the former Highland Railway main line which was originally built to serve the small villages of Nethy Bridge and Dulnain Bridge in Strathspey. It is at present the eastern terminus of the Strathspey Steam Railway.
The railway station was opened by the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway (I&PJR) on its line to Forres in 1863, via Grantown-on-Spey (West), Dava, etc.
In 1923 the HR became part of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway and at nationalisation in 1948 became part of British Railways. The line was recommended for closure by Dr Beeching's report "The Reshaping of British Railways" and closed on 18 October 1965.
Following closure in 1965 the station was demolished leaving only the platform and the nearby stationmaster's house. On 31 May 2002 the Strathspey Railway (preserved) re-opened the old station following its reconstruction.
The Great North of Scotland Railway's (GNoSR) Broomhill Junction lay on the line towards Boat of Garten and at this point the original GNoSR Strathspey Railway diverged, crossing the River Spey to reach Nethy Bridge, Grantown-on-Spey, Aberlour, Cromdale, Craigellachie, etc. The Highland Railway (HR) line ran parallel from Boat of Garten station to avoid the cost of a signal box and famously the two lines had different coloured ballast.

Boulders Beach is a sheltered beach made up of inlets between granite boulders, from which the name originated. It is located on the Cape Peninsula, in Simon's Town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is also commonly known as Boulders Bay. It is a popular tourist spot because of a colony of African penguins which settled there in 1982. Boulders Beach forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.
These African penguins are only found on the coastlines of Southern Africa (South Africa and Namibia). These penguins are currently endangered. As a result, the penguins are under the protection of the Cape Nature Conservation.
Although set in a residential area, it is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird (Spheniscus demersus) can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected natural environment. From just two breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to about 3000 birds in recent years. This is partly due to the prohibition of commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, which has increased the supply of sardines and anchovies, which form part of the penguins' diet. as well as the help from former SANDF naval officer, Van the Penguin Man
Bordered mainly by indigenous bush above the high-water mark on the one side, and the clear water of False Bay on the other, the area comprises several small sheltered bays, partially enclosed by granite boulders that are 540 million years old.
The most popular recreational spot is Boulders Beach, but the penguins are best viewed from Foxy Beach, where newly constructed boardwalks take visitors to within a few metres of the birds. It is also a famous swimming beach, although people are restricted to beaches adjacent to the penguin colony.
even though i took these photos a few weeks ago, the title still applies. still snowing.
