The curl at the Wedge in Newport Beach is always spectacular as was this ride. Good job catching it and staying in the curl making a safe exit before it crashed on him.

Just across from the Flow Bar, in the lovely undergrowth leading to the ocean. I used this trip to really test out high dynamic range photography, this being one of the first ones I processed. It has been pointed out to me that this photo does not look much like a HDR image; I was hoping to get the depth of field without the garishness associated with HDR, though I would perhaps be a little braver with the processing or bracketing to hint at the dynamic range if i were to process it again.

The punga or NZ Tree Fern exhibits beautifully curled fronds in a stage of it's growth cycle. Leaves unfurl to reveal silver grey undersides

He made a great turn at the bottom and made it through the curl at the Wedge in Newport Beach, California. By all means not a big day if surf but just a beautiful morning with smoot glassy surf thanks to the hurricane of Baja California. It should be much bigger in a couple of days. We'll see... I will keep a watch out.
