While in the zodiac we came upon a few hundred walruses (Odobenus rosmarus) hauled out on a beach. Another 50 were in the water and started swimming toward us. Martin Enckell, our expedition leader said they were just curious and we would stay still, for if we approached them they might become aggressive; Many walruses came within 10 feet of us, and some dove under the zodiac and surfaced on the other side, making a loud Whoosh! sound as they exhaled. Although somewhat apprehensive, I trusted Martin, and was also excited about what I was experiencing.
These 3 Birds sat on my neighbors fence looking down at what was below. It was our turtle walking along the edge that always seems to get the curiosity of the birds.-DSC06344

“The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existence. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery each day. -- Albert Einstein
