Another cryptic challenge had come up. "Beginnning. End. You choose." Again, this was another open-ended challange. So many ideas but so many cliches. This challenge was around the New Year's time and I thought about many ideas, particulary fireworks. But that idea was so cliched that I threw it out the window. So I wondered for awhile, what can I do for this challenge? Funny thing was that I was reading a book when I was thinking about that. As I finished the final chapter in an intense, intricate plot book, I had a lightbulb over my head. So I grabbed a bunch of hard-covered books and stacked them up on my desk. The middle book was what I place the bookmark in, towards the end of the book. Lighting came from my lamp (again), above and to the side of the books, specifically on the bookmark. Snap some images, and toned down the exposure, this image was the final result.

EDIT: Best guess is Paropsisterna sp. (Chrysomelidae). iNaturalist suggests Peltoschema
EDIT 2: A very knowledgeable person on iNaturalist agreed with my original I.D. of Paropsisterna sp. but said this particular beetle has not been described.

Cryptic Burrowing Anemone (Halcampa crypta). This inconspicuous little anemone is about 2 cm wide when its tentacles are fully extended. It behaves in a worm-like manner, retreating into a burrow between the rocks when disturbed. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve. Moss Beach, San Mateo Co., Calif.

A small herd of Sphindus sp., I believe. Found at Bastrop State Park in central Texas, ESE of Austin. Bastrop County, Texas, USA.
There are a lot of downed trees at this State Park and I saw a lot of slime molds on my recent visit. Many of the slime mold fruiting bodies were being grazed upon by these beetles.
