We were out at the farm this weekend and happened to be there when the farm across the road had its crops dusted by a small helicopter. As someone who has done some flying (not helicopters though), his low altitude antics looked like a lot of fun.

Although I'm not terribly happy with this photo because it isn't terribly sharp and I inadvertently stopped the rotors, rather than allowing them to blur just a bit, I still wanted to show it to give you a sense of how low this guy was flying. Much lower and he'd be de-tasseling the corn as he sprayed it!

Swans are rather "moody" so it wasn't easy to get close to these 2 big birds with my 90mm lens. If you get too close they start making noises, but once I gave them their space/privacy I could start composing the pics. It was nice to see them doing their evening routine, removing old feathers and eating sea weeds. I wanted to have shots with both of them having their heads up at the same, which wasn't easy, seemed like they were keeping guards (in other words if one had his/her head in the water the other one had his/her up watching).

This was a forced crop due to a lightleak in the left of the negative. Well, I think the croped composition works.

I really like the full frame version of this image, but I love how this close-in crop brings out what I call a 'painterly rendering' from the camera.

It is a completely different camera and sensor, but it manages to remind me of the the way my FujiFilm F30 produced pictures. That little point and shoot camera was capable of out shooting my Nikon DSLR at times.

Harvesting improved cassava varieties. The hardy root crop cassava is among important staples for food security and income in Southeast Asia, but neglected in terms of investment for scientific research. In January, the World Congress on Root and Tuber Crops in China, Nanning, will place these crops - sweet potato, cassava, yam, taro - center-stage, gathering researchers from Asia, Africa and South America to discuss opportunities and challenges ahead for these vital crops.
