The Lassithi Plateau is located at an altitude of about 800 metres in the interior of Crete, southeast of Iraklion and west of Agios Nikolaos. The plateau is largely surrounded by the Dikti Mountains, with Mount Selena in the north and the Dikti in the south. Lassithi is known for its hundreds of small historical windmills. The historical function of the windmills is to pump water, but of the many mills only a few are still working.

Sunrise, Rethymno Harbour, Crete, Greece
Taken during my week spent travelling around the gorgeous Greek island of Crete back in April 2019. I absolutely love the island and this was my third visit in twenty years.
Here's a glorious sunrise that I experienced down at the harbour at Rethymno and I had to quickly position the tripod as it was very difficult to predict where exactly the sun would rise but it all worked out in the end.

Abandoned Tanneries, Thalassino Ageri, Chania, Crete
On my third visit to Crete back in April 2019 (my first being 1999), I rented a nice little apartment only fifteen minutes from Chania and as such, this city (my favourite city in Crete) was an obvious choice to discover in more detail.
I had seen a couple of photos online of these rather wonderful abandoned factories by the ocean a brisk ten minute walk east of Chania itself. So I decided to capture the end of the day there while wandering around.
I love nothing better than sitting in one of the harbourside cafes drinking coffee in the sun on a warm day (under 25°c suits me fine) while people watching and seeing the boats bob up and down in the water.
I cannot wait to return to Crete again for it really is one of my favourite places in the world. The island is small enough to get around but has some spectacular scenery including the 8,000ft White Mountains. Perhaps I shall run a workshop there sometime.
