Dateline - PPG Place, Pittsburgh, PA
Went wandering with my camera around downtown Pittsburgh at lunch time today. Found myself near PPG Place so I thought I'd look for some opportunities to photograph reflections (lots and lots of glass in this building). So here I was, standing on a sidewalk next to a street composing this shot. Next thing I know a private security guard approaches and informs me that I am not allowed to take pictures of the building. I figured that I'm on a sidewalk next to a public road, what's the big deal. The guard said that, since 9/11 people are not allowed to photograph the building and that I was on private property. Hmmm, didn't know that a sidewalk next to a public road in the middle of a city was private property. I didn't argue (the guard didn't make the rule, he just tries to enforce it); I just stepped six inches away so that I was standing in the street next to the curb instead of standing on the sidewalk next to the curb. As I was composing this shot I could hear the guard calling for backup on his walkie talkie. Twas time to get back to work anyway so I didn't stick around to see if the guard was going to challenge me further.
Thing that bugs me..., how can PPG expect to prevent people from taking pictures of a 40 story building that was designed to attract attention to itself.
I think that Saturday, May 31, 2008 should be "Photograph PPG Place" Day and everybody with a camera and free time should show up around 10AM and take pictures of the building - from public property of course.

"Choose a word that encompasses your creative intention for the year ahead and express it in your creative medium of choice."

Billy had the idea to let the girls paint their bedroom doors however they wanted, so I bought them some paint, laid down some tarp over the floor, and let them at it. I went out for lunch with Myrna while they were still working and they were done by the time I got home. I love the creativity.

I knew I wanted to do shoes before I attached legs...I've made that mistake before and was not doing it again. Much too awkward to work on Apoxy Sculpt while wrestling the second leg out of the way.... ahahha...oooooh.... clever me this time. For once.
had legs and arms and bits hanging off every thing whilst waiting for it to dry... later somebody mentioned using a coat hanger...hmmm silly me on that one..... I'm keeping notes...... next time, I aim to get it all right.... oh, yeh...sure.... like that'll ever happen. .
From the session: "The Neuroscience of Art:
What are the Sources of Creativity and Innovation?" (February 21 to 26, 2015)
---
In recent years, there have been an increasing number of scientific investigations into art, exploring what actually happens in the brain during the creative process. Most of these collaborations have been based in neuroscience and psychological approaches to how art is perceived, produced and created, with music the main focus of studies carried out to date. These studies have yielded important new information that relates to a very basic fact of human biology: all behavior, even that as complex as creativity, can be linked to brain function. Building on this fundamental linkage, the neurobiology of art promises to yield exciting new insights as this research field evolves. Creative behavioral patterns are likely to be a critical component for developing the neurological capacity for innovation.
This Salzburg Global program represents a pioneering step to establish a neutral international forum to discuss state-of-the-art findings from a cross-disciplinary perspective, prioritize future research, and expand creative opportunities for learning, innovation and collaboration. While much research is taking place in various national and regional settings, more global dialogue is needed between specialist silos in order to catalyze knowledge exchange around the results, implications and potential practical applications of new cutting-edge research.
