For this project, what I wanted to convey was the process that transforms original ideas into something that is consumed by the public solely for the purpose of making money. I understand that the filmmaking industry does exist, in part, for that reason. I just have a problem with the industry making films for the lowest common denominator of audience. I feel that films are a form of art, and as such, they have a certain responsibility to challenge and inspire the viewers.
The first part of the tryptic is supposed to represent the inception of an original idea by an unaffiliated person. The notes on the desk are from a studio, who want to change the script to fit their notion of what will sell better.
The second tryptic shows the consumers lining up to spend their money at the theater that is owned by the same company that produced the movie. There is not movie title shown, because it implies that differentiation with a title is irrelevant, because of the similar nature of what is being shown.
The final tryptic is a factory that shows the production of DVDs that are on an assembly line. The room is pretty bare, showing that its sole purpose is to produce one single thing, with no variation.
