For the Korean artist Atta Kim, the process of making art has been an ongoing journey of discovery. Each image becomes a site of reflection that in turn suggest the next. It is a philosophical trajectory that he pursues, the photographs being (as he calls them) ‘by-products’. They mark the path of his journey but do not document it.
In 2002, Atta Kim was selected as among the world’s one hundred most exciting contemporary photographers. Since then, he has gone on to prove himself a significant and highly distinctive visual artist on the world stage. He has represented the Republic of Korea at the São Paulo Biennial, been selected for showing at the Venice Biennale, and has had a major exhibition of his work at New York’s International Center of Photography.
Atta Kim talks about the philosophical journey that drives his work at Talking Pictures.
