First attempt of trying to shoot Landscapes through a submerged fish-tank. (You can see the cover page to spot to fish-tank :) ).
Equipment: Canon 550D + Canon 10-18mm + CPL
EXIF: AV Mode at f11 and ISO:100 gave 1/50s shutter speed. Would have liked a higher shutter speed, but light was fading too fast.
Technique:
- Placed the camera in empty fish tank, used a wired remote shutter.
- Immersed the fish tank to ensure that half of the lens is above the water level and half under it (the hardest thing to do)
- clicked lots of shots hoping at lease a few will have perfect water level and get low-level reflections)
Few leanings:
- Rivers are not the best places to do this (since the flowing water creates ripples making it difficult to see under water)
- Need to shoot with sun high in the sky or at the back.. making it difficult to use this technique for sunsets.
- Would have liked to get half of the bottle under water also visible.. could not do it with slightly muddy and flowing water and also with the light angle. Will try again somewhere else.
- Its quite hard to keep the balance of the camera, keep the composition (with floating bottle trying to get out of the frame or come in front of another element, the tree this time)
- Its hard to keep everything dry.. Managed to keep camera dry but dropped the remote in water. Let's see if it survives ;)
Will try this again early morning with sun on my back in some lake(suggestions for the location most welcome).
