Creativecommons, photos on Flickr

I love the stunned sort of look, the awkward flash use, and the general mishmash of action that clearly captures a moment during the setup for the Creative Commons party earlier this month. I had just pulled my flash out for the first time in months and took a few test shots to see what the exposure was like. This was the first of those images.

I think I spend too much time composing photos these days and thinking about how they will look captured and have forgotten what shooting totally spontaneously looks like. I still don't consider myself much of a photographer and I'm always working on getting better at capturing moments and thinking quickly, but I look through my recent photo archives and see a distinct lack of spontaneity.

This reminds me of all the shots I took with my first camera when I would take it to parties a few years back, nervously flashing it for no particular reason, in no particular direction all the time.
