Lismore NSW Australia has experienced the brunt of extreme weather this year in the form of record flood waters.

Homes and commercial buildings have been devastated and from where we stand there's a sense of something bigger happening than just more rain.

The township of Lismore is still suffering from the impact of the record-breaking flood earlier this year. Homes and businesses are still struggling to repair, rebuild and re-occupy!

The Federal Government in Canberra is at best very slow to react and at worst seemingly disinterested in even recognising the influence of Climate Change on this disaster.

Australia is well behind other parts of the world in responding to this threat - preferring instead to fund fossil fuel industries and an arms race! Shame.

I survive.

Unremarked,

The fires of the long day fade.

My shield lies before me.

Without arms,

My thoughts I would willingly cast away.

Tomorrow awaits.

Now,

Today,

I remember all:

That, which was;

That, which might have been.

It is hard ...

WHEN YOU ARE LOST YOU ARE NOT ALONE

The human condition is one of contrasts.

Our lives are sometimes marked by extreme highs and desperate lows. For all the joys and pleasures we experience, there are dark places also and our challenge is to embrace all of the above as part of a seamless whole.

To genuinely engage with life demands that we accept all it presents us - regardless. All the beauty and sadness. All the shiny, loving faces and the dull, unforgiving looks alike are ours to own.

Everything.

The condition of being human is a state of constant change and we must make that change into a stairway by which to climb further. Together.

Day 21 of 365 – HAPPY FAMILY

I've been asked a lot what kind of gear should I buy. This question has ranged anywhere from lens's to camera body's to studio lighting. I'm always more than willing to help all that ask this question as I believe that knowledge is power. Far be it of me to grasp too closely the little "power" I have. "Share the wealth and pay it forward"; that's my motto. In a roundabout way, the golden answer is...."Buy the best that you can AFFORD!" Do your research and figure out what you want to shoot and what you need to get the look or affect you want. Once the first step is done; compare prices and equipment. The bottom line is budget. If we could all afford top of the line gear; well.....that would be awesome! There are so many options and alternatives, each person's answer to the question should be tailored specifically to them (you). You don't need 15 different lights to make a cool looking shot. Remember; sometimes less is more! Now go out and shoot something. NO...not like BANG BANG, more like CLICK CLICK!

(Oh yea, don't forget to take the lens cover off!)

Happy Family - A mixture of "stuff" and it all works weell together.

There's an ancient belief that when all those living have forgotten us after we die, even our soul disappears and we die a second time - forever.

Innocence is such a loaded word.

In the West innocence has a negative connotation that suggests ignorance or gullibility. Describing someone as ‘innocent’ implies they’re a bit simple, out of touch or otherwise childish.

Yet in a spiritual sense, innocence represents an unbridled view of the world in which the wonder we first encountered in our youth is still accessible – at least in part.

Innocence is a quality that can be re-learned or cultivated back into our attitude and approach to life generally.

This doesn’t imply a return to childhood or that we forget everything we’ve experience since, but rather it’s a leaving behind and letting go of certain things.

Rather than clinging to regret or bitterness, rather than allowing ourselves to become jaded or world-weary, we can rediscover some of the marvel and enthusiasm that these feelings obscure.

In the Buddhist tradition innocence is spoken of as a ‘blissful state of ignorance open to the mystery of life’. A willingness to see things differently as if for the first time and to challenge our entrenched attitudes that come with age.

Though the child within has changed, there remains an opportunity to be amazed, to be moved.

‘Whoever blushes is already guilty; true innocence is ashamed of nothing’.

Atonement is the action of making amends for past wrongs or injury, the expiation of sin. It is when we act not from love or for its own sake but from a sense of guilt, a deep sense of needing to balance something we’ve done.

Atonement is the absence of self-forgiveness and is essentially selfish because it includes being ‘caught up’ in our own head space or becoming overly self-absorbed.

Forgiveness on the other hand is about giving ourselves permission to move forward.

Forgiveness does not mean condoning or excusing our own behaviour (or the behaviour of others), but involves accepting the flawed nature of humanity and moving on from the guilt-trap of not letting go.

By forgiving ourselves we create an opportunity to learn from past mistakes and alter our behaviour accordingly, as opposed to simply beating up on ourselves or imagining we can expunge the past.

It is the tree that grows from the black earth.

One the drawbacks of existence is that it has an ending.

All life on this tiny, precious planet is extinguished by the passing of time and, at some point, even the planet itself will be swallowed by an expanding sun before it to goes silent.

Yet these hard realities impart a significance to our meagre allotment, rendering it all the more important for its fleeting nature. Making it all the more special for having ‘been’ at all.

For all its limitations, existence is a gift that challenges us to make the most of its blessing. Though we rail against the tide, we are at the same time fortunate to stand upon a shore. Though we mourn the passing of love, we are all the richer for having known its embrace.

Though everything passes into darkness, even darkness is meaningless without a glimpse of light.
