Redouté was a Flemish artist and botanist renowned for his exquisite watercolor paintings of botanical and native plant species. Born in Florence to American expatriate parents, John Singer Sargent (1856–1925) is considered Europe's leading portrait painter of the Edwardian era. He was educated at both Accademia delle Belle Arti and Paris's École des Beaux Arts. While in Paris, under the guidance of Émile–Auguste Carolus–Duran, a portraitist and muralist, Sargent learned to paint directly from observation without first sketching, employing a fluidity, influenced by the Impressionists. Sargent created more than 2,900 paintings, mainly portraits and landscapes from his travels across the Atlantic, Europe, the Middle East and America. We've collected some of his finest public domain paintings in this collection, including his most famous opus, Madame X, they are all available to download under the CC0 license.

DICHROIC SPHERE

ABOUT THE LIGHT WORK
Dichroic Sphere @ BLOX is a geodetic construction of wood with applied dichroic foil, that with the help of a single light bulb lights up the area around.
The special dichroic foil bends the light in colors depending on what angle and what time of the day it’s viewed. When combined with the geodetic wood construction the color pattern will be consistent no matter what angle it’s viewed from, which gives Dichroic Sphere @ BLOX a preternatural visual appearance.
Dichroic Sphere @ BLOX can be seen from a great distance where it lightens up the surroundings and casts a net of shadows from all around the piece of art.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jakob Kvist (1985), Lighting Designer
Jakob Kvist is an internationally renowned and awarded lighting designer, doing temporary and permanent multidisciplinary works in the field between art, design, architecture and performance. Jakob has previously been featured at Roskilde Festival, Trailerpark festival, Frost Festival, Copenhagen Light Festival, Strøm, Festival, Nikolaj Kunsthal, Roskilde Kommune, Helsingør Kommune, Helsingør Kommune, Københavns Kommune, Kulturby Aarhus and the Royal Danish Theatre. He’s been multidisciplinary projects with artist such as MØ, Phlake, Cph Phil, Den Sorte Skole, Bisse, When Saints Go Machine, WhoMadeWho and Mike Sheridan. Jakob was recently nominated for the Danish Lighting Award 2019 for the permanent exhibition Smartphonemania, was featured on the cover of renowned Roof Magazine in 2018, has been featured the in the book “Superlux, Smart Light Art, Design and Architecture for Cities”, and received “event of the year” 2014 from Politiken, for the multidisciplinary work Panorama at Tietgenkollegiet.

A NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image of the core of quasar 3C 273. A coronagraph on Hubble blocks out the glare coming from the supermassive black hole at the heart of the quasar. This allows astronomers to see unprecedented details near the black hole: weird filaments, lobes, and a mysterious L-shaped structure, probably caused by small galaxies being devoured by the black hole. Located 2.5 billion light-years away, 3C 273 is the first quasar (quasi-stellar object) ever discovered, in 1963.
