Archie Proudfoot is an artist and sign painter whose work utilises the techniques and the aesthetics of traditional signage to explore our relationship with language.
Having graduated from studying a degree in English Literature, Archie went in search of work that would satisfy a dormant sense of craftsmanship. After discovering the artistry of sign painting he found a skill that could be honed over a lifetime of work. He now splits his time between creating bespoke signage for businesses across London and creating his own personal pieces.
The opulent technique of reverse-glass gilding has come to dominate. Archie often chooses to isolate and reify a single word or phrase in the grandeur of gold, examining our emotional response to it, as well as the geometry and physical interplay of the letterforms themselves.

As part of the "What's Your Story?" Queanbeyan Portrait Mural the Places and Spaces team facilitated two creative mentors to work with High Schools students from Karabar and Queanbeyan High Schools on a creative mentoring project.
The project aimed to equip the students with hands-on experience and skills to undertake a mural project and to screen print an image onto a t-shirt.
The activity took place in a vacant shop front along Blacksmiths Lane, the latter was the site for the chalk art the students undertook on the walls of the buildings.
The project was a big success and we hope the first of many! A big thanks to our two creative mentors: Helen Ferguson from the Queanbeyan Hive and Ian Barnard from Copperhead Screen Printing. A big thanks too to the teachers and students involved from Queanbeyan High and Karabar High.

It's just an old kitchen table that I've had for about twenty years, but man, I'm pretty proud of the stuff that I've devised while sitting at it. Here I've got some "design motifs" for a fabric I'm thinking of, sketches of a smock I want to make for Charlotte and some papers and pictures for Daddy and Charlotte scrapbook
