In South France, bullfighting is known alternately as "course libre" or "course camarguaise". This is a bloodless spectacle (for the bulls) in which the objective is to snatch a rosette from the head of a young bull.
For a period of about 15-20 minutes, the raseteurs compete to snatch rosettes (cocarde) tied between the bulls' horns. They don't take the rosette with their bare hands but with a claw-shaped metal instrument called a raset in their hands, hence their name. Afterwards, the bulls are herded back to their pen by gardians (Camarguais cowboys) in a bandido, amidst a great deal of ceremony. The star of these spectacles are the bulls, who get top billing and stand to gain fame and statues in their honor.
Although the course camarguaise does not end in the death of the bull, it is at least as dangerous to the human contestants as a corrida.
but it's a folk festival, where one likes to go in traditional costumes

"and by the way you brought me here
it makes me believe
the best is still yet to come
and i don't want to leave
forgive my hesitation
oh but i'm learning to trust in you
help me to dream these dreams
cause i don't have a clue
if you'd be honest and say what you mean
you know i would promise
i'd do anything
cause i know that without you
i'm giving it away
is this what you wanted
cause i'm willing to change
now that i am certain
that there's much more to gain
you've introduced me to the moment
oh but i'm looking to stay for good
if you asked me to stay forever
well you know that i would
i would do anything
the nights are forever
maybe i'm wrong
but it feels like i'm so lost without you
so i step towards the heat
it's the way i can see
and it makes me believe
that it's you
and by the way you brought me here
it makes me believe
the best is still yet to come
and i don't want to leave
i won't but anyway
if you'd be honest and say what you mean
you know i would promise
i'd do anything
and the nights are forever
i can't get to sleep
cause i know there's a reason i'm in this too deep
and i'm sure that without you...
i'm giving it away"
song; "giving it away" by mae (acoustic version)
I was surprised to see two small magnolia trees covered in blossoms, and even more surprised to see that the blossoms were already past their best. I did discover one perfect white magnolia blossom though.
Members of the South Carolina National Guard Pre-Mobilization Training Assistance Element assist in a pre-deployment course for approximately 30 Airmen from Joint Base Charleston at McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina, March 6-10, 2017. The week-long course familiarizes Airmen with the ability properly execute Army Warrior Tasks (AWT) to Army standards. AWTs are basic tasks all Soldiers should be proficient in regardless of their career field.
The Airmen completed a leader reaction course, teaching them the importance of communication, initiative, decision making, confidence and accountability. They also did weapons training in an Engagement Skills Trainer, which is a virtual training system that provided them with fundamentals training and allowed them to go through virtual scenarios. They then learned and practiced combat casualty care fundamentals and Modern Army Combatives.

Also known as the infamously steep & twisty Lombard Street in downtown San Francisco as see from Telegraph Hill. Will have to come back for this as a night shot...light trails from cars making their way down the hill would be interesting.
I had an offsite today at the golf course uphill from our house, about 4 miles away. It was snowy, and I thought it'd be fun to play golf anyhow. That's Seattle in the background.
