The charming old wood-frame 1874 Pepin County Courthouse in Durand was designed and constructed by Miles Durand Prindle. The Building was expanded in the 1950s, before being replaced in 1984 by a converted hospital on the southeastern side of town. The building serves as a museum, today, and is one of Wisconsin's most recognized county courthouses.
The Greek Revival structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Out on a grey rainy day catching some local scenery. Sort of a blah fall with no red colors. Lots of yellows, golds, and rusts but the maples are still holding onto their leaves.
The Pike County Fair in Piketon opened in 1907. While the racetrack was primarily for harness racing, the first day of racing did include one race for local running horses. It is doubtful that these were Thoroughbreds, but until I can uncover more information on the history of racing at the track, I am going to leave this on my list of tracks that once hosted flat racing. The Pike County Chamber of Commerce has posted a 56-page history of horse racing at the track on their website. It is titled, "Bring the Hosses Past the Start in a Straight Line, Gentlemen" A Century of Horse Racing at the Pike County (Ohio) Fair." I only found reference to the single opening day running race in the article. You can find a couple of old photos of the racetrack on the Pike County News Watchman website.

The Federal style courthouse designed by C H McCauley was constructed between 1935-36 so folks didn't have to cross Gunter Mountain to reach the county seat of Guntersville.

An excellent little spot for Seepage Dancers....it seemed like they were everywhere! I would have to say there were 300 or so and tenerals everywhere.
