My goal with this series is to explore every day scenes under the cover of darkness. A street corner, a lamp post, a doorway. Big city, small town, urban, rural. Man-made light versus nature’s darkness–––light and shadow interpreting minimalist settings in black and white. To see more in this series, check out Cover Of Darkness
Early on in the COVER OF NIGHT series, I shot a couple gas stations. They were not initially the type scene I was looking to capture, but when I came across one late at night, bright and isolated in the darkness, it was impossible for me to resist, so I continue to shoot them. I have now shot enough that they have become a series-within-the-series. For a look at them as a collection, check out, Gas Stations
Trying to capture the County Fair experience. :)
A multiple exposure blended in photoshop. My Sony does not have a multiple exposure setting in-camera so I blended several images in Photoshop.
Gongkar གོང་དཀར། county
Gongkar county is located on the banks of the Yarlung Tsangpo ཡར་ཀླུངས་གཙང་པོ་ (Brahmaputra) at a point where the river valley is at its widest, which is why Gonkar Airport was constructed there in the late 1970s. The airport lies to the west of Rawa-me. The borders of Gongkar county extend from the sacred Mount Chuwori opposite Chushul, southwards to Gampa La pass (4.794 m), Area: 2.532 sq km. www.footprinttravelguides.com/c/2848/tibet/&Action=pr...
This house is so old it no longer faces the main road. Evidently the old road passed in front of the house but the newer road is behind it. Several years ago I saw smoke rolling out of the chimneys as people were still living there. I believe the house is now empty although someone still lives beside it. Someday I need to ask if I can take a closer look. I haven't even seen the front yet. The house appears to be from the late 1700's or early 1800's.
And then there's this. You might remember the house next to the concrete silo. This is the same house shot from a bit farther west. And since there are no real movements in the Graflex, you get what you get.
But since I didn't shoot it with a wide open aperture, the depth of focus is deeper - more things are in "focus".
The weird thing on the left that sort of looks like a light leak is, in fact, a light leak. It's neither the fault of the film holder nor the camera. It was a user error from the user putting a label on the film holder. That small width of the label was enough to lift the holder up just a tiny smidge - but it was enough to let a sliver of light in.

Yellow-rumped Warbler is pretty much on a par with Yellow Warbler in terms of the geographical extent of its breeding range, being found in most treed areas of the North American continent. Still, it is a treat to appreciate the colours of this species wherever and whenever. I took the image of this individual on the last day of our Nova Scotia trip, at Porters Lake Provincial Park in Halifax County.

This is Pulaski County Courthouse in Hawkinsville, Georgia. "Pulaski County Courthouse is a Classical Revival building in Hawkinsville, Georgia dating from 1874. The building is located on the southwest corner of Commerce Street and North Lumpkin Street. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. The core of the building was built in 1874. In 1885, the courthouse's clock was added. In 1897 and 1910, it had major additions. I have seen some photographers captured some excellent pics of hilly county roads. I have been struggled with myself for a while. I think this one is OK, haven't hit the spot yet. I am curious, what do you think of it?
Recently, I learned Nebraska has alps called Bohemian Alps. And it’s not too far from my home. I am not sure if I was at the right place, but plan to explore some more in the near future.

The Pearl Hill fire burned 223,730 acres across Douglas County and it is just one of many in this state alone. We camped at Sun Lakes, not far from where this was taken (Jameson Lake) and this was pretty much the view the entire time. That structure is a shop on a couples small piece of land overlooking this once beautiful desert oasis and we were astounded that it survived only to find out that his house is completely gone and it was only thirty feet away. All of the power lines had burned down and so there was no water to fight the incoming blaze and the fd came and told them they had five minutes to pack their lifetime of belongings because there is only one way out of there and they weren't going to risk lives to save one house.
for reference the shot in comments was taken from behind me, that bush is certainly gone now...
