I giudizi ...I consigli...

I know that there's a reason why I need to be alone
I need to find a silent place that I can call my own
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
there's nothing to win and there's no need to fight
I never cease to wonder at the cruelty of this land
But it seems a time of sadness is a time to understand
Is it mine, Lord is it mine?
When everything's dark and nothing seems right,
You don't have to win and there's no need to fight
If only I could find a way
To feel your sweetness through the day
The love that shines around me could be mine.
So give us an answer, won't you,
We know what we have to do,
There must be a thousand voices trying to get through.
I could see there were some nice skies developing out of my office window so I wandered over to the common in my lunch hour and wasn't disappointed.

I know it's Spring but when I listen to the song "If You Could Read My Mind", I think of Fall. A beautiful Ontario Autumn day.
Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot dies at 84.
We saw quite a few of these small, colourful Dragonflies in Kefalonia. I'm not entirely sure of the id and don't think it's a Common Darter - could it is possibly be either a Scarlet Darter or maybe a Ruddy Darter - correct id would be welcome.
UPDATE - It looks like it is probably a Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum fonscolombii) thanks to Nick Brischuk for the id. This appears to have the same black and yellow legs and the blue patch on the bottom of the eyes.
View from the guest bedroom at apartment 32A in 45 East 22nd Street. One of my colleagues has the property for sale and yesterday--just as the Squall was hitting, I got to tour it. Beautiful space. Interesting views.

I could hear his land call so knew there was a Snipe at this pond however, he was not my prime target so he caught me totally off guard when up he flushed and flew back where I had just come from, and of course was backlit. Thanks to some photoshop recovery we can see those unique tail feathers that are responsible to make that familiar springtime winnowing sound over marshes.
I could tell you a long boring tale about how this robber fly pic came be my PoD but I'll spare you the unnecessary details and instead I'll just say here's a robber fly.
How could I ignore that pose?
Did you know that Great Blue Herons have been seen stalking voles and gophers in fields, capturing rails at the edge of marsh and eating many species of small waterbirds?
Good Saturday morning everyone, and hope a great day and weekend will be had by all.
This was a close encounter for sure with the wings almost touching, and maybe they did but could not tell for sure.
Thank you for the visits and all the kind words, and thanks for the well wishes.
Image 85 in this fun series of the capturing of the BULB capture. This capture is taken at Middle River in Maryland showing the smoothed clouds and smoothed out water surface.
This series allows the viewer to see conditions as they were during the shot, and then the resulting long exposure effect on the water and clouds. It also shows how people moving about 'vanish' from the long exposure.
For this moment in time I am displaying the long exposure taken on the right side (796 seconds long), and the conditions that were during this time can be seen on the capture to the left showing the BULB capture being taken. It was actually pretty interesting watching the sky change tones and colors during that 800 seconds and the resulting combination obtained on the sensor.
Other images in this series can be seen in The Album "If They Could See What We Can See"
Could this be the last Monarch to visit our backyard in 2022? Rain showers were approaching and one Monarch was snacking on Mexican Sunflowers. Morgan County, Alabama - 2022
Turkey vulture at Boyce Thompson Arboretum. Every September the Turkey Vultures leave the arboretum and return again in March. They are pretty numerous at the park. Ugly face, but graceful in flight.
My Dad....precious moments with him..enough said
If I could save time in a bottle
The first thing that Id like to do
Is to save every day
Till eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you
If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
Id save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
Ive looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with
If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
Ive looked around enough to know
That youre the one I want to go
Through time with
First offering with my new macro lens
I could not resist a chance to take some shots, and see what the new camera and macro lens can do. ;o)
I want the lens overwhelmingly for outdoor macro shooting, and ideally hand-held rather than always needing a tripod. My current 30mm macro lens is quite unforgiving when hand-held, and I rarely use it when I'm out and about. So I've been looking online and on Flickr to try to find a lens that could complement my existing macro, and add something different to my range of lenses.
The lens I decided on is too heavy for the small NEX body, so I found an older Sony A Mount camera body for it ... certainly heavy and bulky compared to the NEX! And plenty to learn and discover as I get used to both camera and lens ;o)
So when the sun shone early yesterday morning I took it out into the garden, where the new young shoots on the honeysuckle held plenty of raindrops. This is just one tiny leaf in the sunshine. And yes - the rain came back by midday!!

the drier this Tulip went the more the wings came up, it was as though the flower wanted to fly....
The petals never fell off.
I love these serendipities!
The unexpected...

I never thought I could get a shot like this. While we see Peacocks everywhere in the countryside, they are not great fliers. The birds usually walk into the fields and disappear into bushes. On rare occassions where there are threats around like dogs, foxes or people, they take flight. But last week, we were sitting on an embankment when we saw the Peacock fly over the fields and land far away towards the bushes. Glad I got this shot.
These are resident Indian birds and often seen as pests due to their large numbers. The rainy season is their breeding season and we can see them in several places dancing with their tails / plumage wide open and trying to attract the female. The tails are quite big often spanning 3 feet and are thought to be a hindrance as the bigger tails though help attract females, make them an easy target.
Thanks in advance for your views / faves / feedback - much appreciated.
Angry Mockingbird attacks a Starling.
This was going on a for few minutes , The Mockingbird kept attacking only this Starling ,it was very furious ,high speed attacks ,difficult to shoot , this is the best photo I could get.
I decided to go for a walk in the middle of the storm. It was so peaceful and pretty. Riverside Park, NYC 2003
This could be any day in Weedy Meadow, a sheltered, small village located at the outskirts of Cooperstown, but it isn't. Loud music is blasting over the fields.
Gemma: Good heavens!
Hannah: Someone is having a party, haha!
Gemma: Probably the Barbies again.
Hannah: It's a bit early for them isn't it?
Gemma: Who's to know.
I wish I could say the finch wept for me alone
from his linden branch, but he sang for the whole
neighborhood, as twilight rose on his Addio L' Amore
for some fickle Violetta gone nest hopping,
a lament so rending each trill seemed
to shatter his glass heart and the baritones
along the quay fell silent,
and whatever jubilation normally erupts never did,
not while the finch grieved and the sky filled
with pinpricks of light. I wish I could have stroked
his chest, his twin, stuttering lungs, and consoled all
who listened on our stumps and lonely boles,
remembering our own farewells to love: dark eyes,
sleek feathers, sweet wine of those who peck us blind
and flutter off. So sing, little Rodolfo, sad
Chansonnier, and let us cry with you in fellowship,
and let us cry for our mutual folly, for love which
evaporates, for passion which devours us, for
emptiness, yes, warble a note or two for the pouring
out of ourselves into others, for this dusk which
has turned the streets vermilion, for this cafe
lighting itself against the night.

I was lucky to visit there under special weather conditions - it was lightly raining, you could touch the clouds with your hands. Although the image is gray, the feeling is unreal.
You could hear this "alco" pair barking up the grade here at Dundas, Ontario as we waited for a CN 6060 excursion. The relatively new HR616 2118 looked good with extra flags and a slug of 40 ft. boxcars up front passing the Ford Pinto on the left - October 11, 1982.
